Won this as a 45 it was a demo from 2NM Muswellbrook Australia must have been 1969. Bought the CD recently online. Had cause to email Erl Dalby (now Erl Montaigue doing martial arts in Wales) about something else not long after I bought the CD and told him that I had. Said he knew George and had some good memories of the old days. Fantastic song which I never forgot.
I love this song, and my band, Codigo90 played it in Brazil (68?) for a long time. A smash with its crazy outta-phase Fx. Not Beatlesque, but Applesque, with punch.
You are SO wrong. The Beatles never wrote ANYTHING we did. John offered us Across The Universe to do as a single and we said no thanks cause we were getting enough shit aas a Beatles backed band without really hammering it
well it sounds like the Beatles because Lennon and MaCartney wrote it....lol... like a few Bad Finger stuff , Mary Hopkins, Gary and The Paste Makers ...songs that sound Beatlest because they some times wrote them..
@ralphiam Actually it was written by their bassist/lead singer George Alexander (real name Alexander Young:elder brother of Easybeats guitarist George Young and younger future AC/DC boys Angus and Malcolm).
Im tired of hearing people calling everything Beatles copy, and using words such as Beatlesque etc about practically everything from the 60´s This does not in anyway sound like Beatles ! What it does show some resemblence to though could be bands like Beach Boys or Zombies that both draw more directly on a strictly american style and sound ( though Zombies were infact British)
Sorry to break the reverie, but Grapefruit were not exactly the definition of obscure back in the day. As evidenced by Italian language versions of some of their singles, and a major worldwide release of the album (including a Japanese release!)
