Im going to be operated next mounth. Probably ill be in a sling for a 30-60 days. Will i lose a lot of muscle mass due to the immobilization? And how long it will take me to start exercising?
had lathroscopic bankart lesion repair last may by dr. rodwan, who did an amazing job. the shoulder is in tighter than the uninjured one, healed well. have a couple lumps of muscle on the injured side of my back, from working physically full-time w/ the injury for 1 1/2 years and holding my body unnaturally to compensate. sort of lopsided and have pinched nerve in my back that runs into my hip and knee on that side.
I just got my 4th dislocated shoulder powerlifitng, and i tore my labrum, my rotator cuff and my bone is worn down and i need a bone graph... can anyone give me an estimate to how long my full recovery will take? im 16 yrs old. thanks guys... oh and its not arthroscopic,,, its the full cutting and shit.
@TheFullback44 dude that is going to be quite a lengthy recovery you have there. You shouldn't be powerlifting at 16 man you really need to wait for your body to develop before you lift heavy weights like that. You're going to be looking at at least a year i would imagine. That is quite the surgery you need

im having a SLAP tear and capsular shift operated on next friday and the doctor told me it could take any where from 6 months - a year to be back to 100% and even then i wont have a normal ROM.
Ive had three surgeries on my shoulder all arthroscopic but the last one and if your having just work on your capsule then probably anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
But the doctor didn't sat it was not a tear and he kind of left it up to me if I wanted to get the surgery or not. So at the time I just went with the physical therapy instead of the surgery and now 9 months later I'm still having problems with my shoulder. My arm fatigues quickly and gets heavy feeling. I also have slight sharp pains in the injury spot. Any kind of upward motion causes small sharp pains. Overall dulling numb feeling at times over my whole arm. I am considering surgery now.
I cannot remember the actual name of my injury but my doctor mentiones something about a stitch to hold a bit of the tendon that is hanging out to far and also talks about shaving a little off of a tendon. But they don't know the extent of the injury at this point until they do the arthroscopic on me. Which is up to me to decide my doctor tells me. I had a shoulder injury at work from repetative motion over time, this happend about 9-10 months ago and I had an MRI done.
i had shoulder arthroscopy suregery on feb. 11. didn't need the repair they thought I would. Instead they removed a large bone spur and I also had a shredded bicep tendon.
i was in sling for 4 weeks, but started therapy five days after surgery. still cant get my arm behind my back or above my head. I was told this will take weeks yet. i also still have alot of pain that radiates down my arm to the elbow.
just had this done 2 months ago , im still in a sling, for about another month , just starting out physical therapy , was wondering how long before u can go back to doing everything normal , like before injury
I just had this done 3 months ago. I had a small tear on labrum from 9 to 12. Surgery went very well and i only spent one month in a sling. I have had two straight months of physical therapy and my doc says i have one month left. I lost some muscle mass in my left arm but its hardly noticeable. Its coming back though after starting strength training at phys ther. Im very glad i got this done. Its worth it
I have the same thing coming up. I noticed for one person it was in like 2 to 3 weeks they were doing better but for another it was 2 to 3 months. I'm a massage therapist, I haven't asked my doctor about my recovery time. Anyone out there had pain so bad it was going up your neck, scapulas and down both arms? I have it on both sides and I can't take the pain!!
I just had a Subacromial Decompression arthroscopy (this surgery) done on my left shoulder. I can honestly say that it hurts like hell (10 days later) but it is getting a bit better each day. Follow though with the physiotherapy and keep on top of your pain meds and you should be fine.
My doctor just told me that I need to have this surgery done. Would you mind telling me how long it took to recover from it and what kind of scar is left? tks
I had this surgery a few years ago. I have 3 scars: one on the front of my shoulder, and two on the back. People always think they are bug bites! If the scars are raised up when they heal, you can go to the dermatologist and get a small cortisone injection in each scar that shrinks it flat. I was in a sling for 2-3 months, then I had physical therapy to get the joint stretched back out. That is probably the most annoying part. Other than that, you'll be ok, its not as bad as it looks!
Great video. Thats what we need more on on youtube. I'm going in about 6 weeks to have my hip scoped and it was great finding this video. Gives me a bit of an idea now how scopes are done.

Two years ago suffered a subluxation, left shoulder. Ulnar tear, Hill Sacks Deformity. Thermal rod was used to tighten up my shoulder.
My left wrist was damaged as well: TFFC tear.
Like the old saying goes "It will never be the same."
Home exercises, when I get hit with a nasty flair up it is off to Physical Therapy.
