Hard to compare new cars to old. New cars have tons of added weight due to Federal safety laws. That's why cars in the 70s and 80s could claim 45 mpg despite crap engines. The cars didn't weigh but 2000 lbs.

the 302s are easy and cheap to build just like the 289s...it dont take much to get a 5.0 stang into the 12 or 13 second range....it does however take quite a bit to get a honda into the 12s though haha

You're right, it's also not hard to get a Mustang to those times, but will be harder because it will be an actual build. Price wise doesn't even matter because it's cheap on both either way. All that matters is what you prefer. I would rather take a Honda to a track anyday, but I would rather drive a heavily built Mustang running the 1/4 mile. I'm a fan of most cars.

I own both a 90 Mustang LX 5.0 sedan and a 2004 Nissan 350Z. Both have manual transmissions. Both perform about the same with the Nissan a couple tenths of a second quicker from 0-60 and about a tenth quicker in the quarter. Both cars are stock. No mods. The Mustang is a lot smaller, but the build materials are thicker and heavier. Z weighs 3200 lbs verses Mustang at 3100 lbs. Both cars are great to drive.

@2008dr650se when comparing modded to modded, year has nothing to with anything. The engine in that so called "taxi cab" is more costs more than the 350z itself... Stock for Stock comparisons are great for baselines. Moded vs Modded, anything goes... Not to mention that "riced out 350Z" trapped higher than most current supercars out today.

the 302s are easy and cheap to build just like the 289s...it dont take much to get a 5.0 stang into the 12 or 13 second range....it does however take quite a bit to get a honda into the 12s though haha

@bad65stang mmmm. A swap away in some chassis? No build. This 5.0 wasn't stock. Stock GT's were almost 15 second cars. I don't know what kind of crack you're smoking.

@Cripton805 i didnt say that the 5.0 was stock...i said the 302s and 289s were easy and cheap to build...yea i know the mustang wasnt stock...i have a 95 mustang gt with a 5.0 and yes it is a 15 second car...and because the 302s and 289s are all over and they have been making them since the early 60s so there is tons of parts around for em and so they are cheap and easy to build

@bad65stang Your whole point in where you said getting a Honda into 12's or 13's is hard is false. You're right, it's also not hard to get a Mustang to those times, but will be harder because it will be an actual build. Price wise doesn't even matter because it's cheap on both either way. All that matters is what you prefer. I would rather take a Honda to a track anyday, but I would rather drive a heavily built Mustang running the 1/4 mile. I'm a fan of most cars.

@Cripton805 lets see a honda (or any 4 banger for that matter) get into the 12s all motor for cheaper than a 302 or a 289...lets face it 5k for 5k you can always build a faster v8...especially if the cars are not super or turbo charged and if you dont use fake ponies such as nitrous...i hate nitrous...and even if you built a turboed 4 banger a turboed v8 would still stomp the shit outta it

I own both a 90 Mustang LX 5.0 sedan and a 2004 Nissan 350Z. Both have manual transmissions. Both perform about the same with the Nissan a couple tenths of a second quicker from 0-60 and about a tenth quicker in the quarter. Both cars are stock. No mods. The Mustang is a lot smaller, but the build materials are thicker and heavier. Z weighs 3200 lbs verses Mustang at 3100 lbs. Both cars are great to drive.

@2008dr650se when comparing modded to modded, year has nothing to with anything. The engine in that so called "taxi cab" is more costs more than the 350z itself... Stock for Stock comparisons are great for baselines. Moded vs Modded, anything goes... Not to mention that "riced out 350Z" trapped higher than most current supercars out today.

I'm sorry but the only thing on that car that looks like it was put on after was the CF hood and such, which is lighter weight than the stock hood. So there is a benefit to it being there. Same thing as "fag"...original word was for a pile of sticks or a cigarette, but once it became mainstream as a negative comment, that's all it basically stands for now.

I don't know if you race or have ever been to a drag strip but a street car running 10's is pretty damn good whether its a muscle car OR an import.
