They also believe that Lol is for cancer kids when in fact all they do is for kids with alopecia According to Lol website they throw away 80% of the hair they receive the other 20% is sold to a wig maker who sells the wigs back to Lol at a discount. Lol then provides the wigs for a fee to the kids The fee is based on a sliding scale according to the parents income

To all of those people saying that Locks of Love sells a lot of their hair, they have to. If they didn't, then they would need a ton of outside funding to keep their operation going. Their intentions are good, and selling a lot of the hair is their way of not bothering everyone with requests for massive donations. How would you like it if they sent you a letter saying "thank you for your donation, now please send us $500 so that we can afford to make it into a wig?"

I always felt guilty when someone would look at my long hair and tells me that I should donate it to to Locks of Love. No, I want to keep my long hair, I love it and it took me my whole life to grow it to where it is today. Besides, most of the donated hair isn't even used.

@jamissa20 Sadly, it is a known fact that lots of hair sent in is unusable for wigmaking and it is thrown away. Some might be used for making human hair keratin for hair products or soaking up oil from oil spills or possibly making paint brushes.

I would like to think it was used for something and not trashed. People seem to agree with my other comments.But lots are in denial of the hair's fate.

@JJJLongHair4u2c yup, this overrated insanity needs to stop. Donate money. Give up your starbucks for few days or something and give cash to places where it can make difference. Giving your hair to organization that sells wigs to kids (and very few of them) is not doing that much difference.

so true JJJ I have been in childrens hospitals and kids just are not in to wigs. bogus indeed! I always try my best to talk the ladies I know out of cutting there hair. You have fantastic hair by the way!
