I really do not care what I use. Internet Explorer is ok. The thing I do not like about Macs, is if I go to IGN to go on a video or watch a conference I cannot.
Bullshit. Internet Explorer is not going to harm a PC's hardware. I like Firefox, but I can tell you that it isn't a whole lot more secure than Internet Explorer. It all boils down to what you do on the internet, and whether or not you know how to use your PC properly and browse the web safely.
this is why I use firefox. I'm trying 2 get my parents 2 use it as well but they dont like it. oh well if our computer gets hacked then they will know. I mean ie is really not that great.
I do agree with you that IE within WinXP has potential to make you have a bad day, BUT there have been many fixes and holes patched. If you are using an anti-virus solution and keep your definitions up to date the threat is nil. Vista is better as far as IE7 goes...it's treated as a separate process and does not have the same hooks as in WinXP
Hardware may not respond and seem like it is fucked, but it is undamaged and can be installed on another comp without failure.
fuck internet explorer. its stupid as fuck, I still can't believe my college is using this for the Visual Studio class. horrible!!(because of active x)
Im reposting this because you never replied to this one
That is no different from any other windows virus, if a virus gets on your drive, of course it has access to your filing system, but i still highly dought you can ruin any piece of hardware (with the exception of harddrive due to everyday use) with active x. sam, you have still shown me no proof.
how did i not prove it? if IE is built into the fileing system through activex then its an open door to the filing system sunnz video explains it best
has this happened to you or anyone you know, because i had never even heard of it before this whole debate. ive used windows all my life, and this has NEVER happened to me, nor has windows EVER ruined any piece of hardware in any of my systems.
i have an imac 17 inch with OSX 10.5.4 leopard and a dell emension running ubuntu 8.04 of course i can afford that $420 PoS aptop running winblows shitsa
oh BTW fan speed is handled by the BIOS not the OS. Your Bios will shut down your computer if there is a critical temp overload. unless you've disabled it in the bios.
sigh do you know why you defrag HDs? because files stray together on th HD making harder to read you must defrag to prevent slowing down of your machine and to make your HD read faster if i virus gets in there it can oer work your HD enough to ruin it
In your video you mentioned "fans" not hard drives. Hard drives through normal use of the OS will fragment the filing system over time. A virus could make the HD work harder and max out your CPU cycles, but the system will crash before any real damage would occur. You would HAVE to reinstall Windows and the virus would be gone. Thus your claim that IE will damage your hardware is Horseshit.
You claim in your vid link ( watch?v=m01Wt6ccJvk ) that the chain of infection goes from -- Bad HTML >> ActiveX >> IE >> File System >>
Driver >> Bios >> Hardware. This is inaccurate. I believe that it goes -- Bad HTML >> IE >> ActiveX >> OS >> File System OR kernel >> Hardware. This is all processed by the CPU. The BIOS is not in the picture at all....once POST is completed it hands control over to the OS which communicates directly with the hardware. Your scenario has no basis in fact.
I don't believe that's true (kernel - BIOS - hardware.) Can you prove that? Post a link please. I don't believe that the BIOS does any processing. I believe it goes through the CPU (there may be a copy of the Bios within the OS). The Bios is just mostly data with machine code that is processed through the CPU at POST. It would seem stupid and cumbersome for the kernel to always be seeking permission from the bios instead of directly communicating with the hardware VIA the mainboard.
What I said is true on the x86 architecture. It doesn't matter which OS it is (Win, Linux). I don't know about Apples chip architecture though.
I still believe that IE, let alone Windows, will not harm hardware. You've said nothing yet that will convince me of that. I believe that "Why Internet Explorer can be harmful to your hardware" is the same as me saying "The world is flat, and here is why"
This video is not correct Internet Explorer will not harm your hardware.
apple uses an X86 arch but it doesnt use a BIOS it uses ope firmware i never sid windows could what i am sayig is tha internet exploere leaves many holes to exploit and id also like to mention there re windows cerfied motherboards specifically made to communicate with windows this product does communicate with the OS but for the most part your right
Windows Certified Motherboards just means that MS and the manufacturer got together and consulted on drivers that were placed within the Windows CD/DVD. It's marketing. Those same motherboards would work as well in Linux if the correct drivers were written by the community.
I may be wrong but I thought that IBM invented the x86 architecture then gave it away and apple had their own propriety arch....until recently they introduced Intel processors.
You're either full of sh*t or dumb. IE will not damage your hardware, nor will any viruses. Worst comes to worst you'll just need to do a clean install of XP. It may corrupt your file system and Data but never hardware.
your stupid the fileing system id on your hard drive if any virus get in there they can really fuck up how your hardrive spins thus screwing up hard ware jackass
Thats Bullshit....playing a video file then suddenly turning off the power would do more damage than any virus I've heard of to a hard drive. You are talking about viruses through infection of IE. Tell me about "any virus" that does what you claim. I will apologize for my ignorance if you do this....otherwise stop spreading propaganda. I'm no fan of IE BTW I just dislike uninformed people feeding me horseshit and telling me it's prime rib.
Hey, I use IE all the time, and so far, nothing bad's happened. Sure, it messes up on me sometimes and I have to restart, but it's not that bad. Personally, I just like using IE for some reason.
That is no different from any other windows virus, if a virus gets on your drive, of course it has access to your filing system, but i still highly dought you can ruin any piece of hardware (with the exception of harddrive due to everyday use) with active x. sam, you have still shown me no proof.

the internet exploer active x complex is a open door way thats the problem instead of trying to prevent it its a door way.
