  • That's why I'm on Ubuntu Linux 10.10

  • haha psh i dont have to worry :P i use ubuntu hahahaha

  • This is kinda true, ALTHOUGH, a virus can come via ANY browser and infect the filesystem as well.

  • You are running Windows vista on 504MB RAM with Intel Celeron 1.73Ghz and you are saying because of IE7 its slowing down your PC. Hell! Looks fake

  • Safari forever !!!!!

  • I really do not care what I use. Internet Explorer is ok. The thing I do not like about Macs, is if I go to IGN to go on a video or watch a conference I cannot.

  • google chrome rocks

  • i use firefox

  • Bullshit. Internet Explorer is not going to harm a PC's hardware. I like Firefox, but I can tell you that it isn't a whole lot more secure than Internet Explorer. It all boils down to what you do on the internet, and whether or not you know how to use your PC properly and browse the web safely.

  • when i use ie i scan my computer everyday and find at least 1 threat when i use firefox i scan my computer every 3 days and no threats

  • this is why I use firefox. I'm trying 2 get my parents 2 use it as well but they dont like it. oh well if our computer gets hacked then they will know. I mean ie is really not that great.

  • Firefox iz teh Best

  • WOW, you have a slow ass PC

  • Its cause he downloads all his porn duh

  • Probally.....ohh wait im talking out loud....

  • lol

  • shuda used camstudio

  • Internet Explorer can control the speed of your fans? BOLLOCKS! The software is running on Windows which cannot interact with hardware!

  • IE is intergreated with the file system which is intergrated within the NT kernal which accses NTSC which talks with the BIOS

  • This is Why I have a Mac and this is Why I use Safari

  • The new I.E, now complete with even more swiss cheese-like security.

  • I do agree with you that IE within WinXP has potential to make you have a bad day, BUT there have been many fixes and holes patched. If you are using an anti-virus solution and keep your definitions up to date the threat is nil. Vista is better as far as IE7 goes...it's treated as a separate process and does not have the same hooks as in WinXP

Hardware may not respond and seem like it is fucked, but it is undamaged and can be installed on another comp without failure.

  • fuck internet explorer. its stupid as fuck, I still can't believe my college is using this for the Visual Studio class. horrible!!(because of active x)

  • why are we having this argument? just use firefox. its that much better.

  • yup

  • Im reposting this because you never replied to this one

That is no different from any other windows virus, if a virus gets on your drive, of course it has access to your filing system, but i still highly dought you can ruin any piece of hardware (with the exception of harddrive due to everyday use) with active x. sam, you have still shown me no proof.

  • the internet exploer active x complex is a open door way thats the problem instead of trying to prevent it its a door way.

  • once again, is there ANY proof that ANYTHING through active x can ruin hardware?

  • I SAID it makes more of an open door why to control Systemfiles and the bios

  • and i said "how", i want solid proof, not opinion

  • how did i not prove it? if IE is built into the fileing system through activex then its an open door to the filing system sunnz video explains it best

  • has this happened to you or anyone you know, because i had never even heard of it before this whole debate. ive used windows all my life, and this has NEVER happened to me, nor has windows EVER ruined any piece of hardware in any of my systems.

  • its happened to me in 98 4 times

  • and what happened

  • my HD didnt read

  • Could you post the link please

( yes, I'm asking you to tell me where to go and how to get there :D )

  • watch?v=m01Wt6ccJvk

  • What PC and OS did you use for this video?

  • my brothers and windows vista SP1

  • cant offord your own can you kid

  • i have an imac 17 inch with OSX 10.5.4 leopard and a dell emension running ubuntu 8.04 of course i can afford that $420 PoS aptop running winblows shitsa

  • oh BTW fan speed is handled by the BIOS not the OS. Your Bios will shut down your computer if there is a critical temp overload. unless you've disabled it in the bios.

  • sigh do you know why you defrag HDs? because files stray together on th HD making harder to read you must defrag to prevent slowing down of your machine and to make your HD read faster if i virus gets in there it can oer work your HD enough to ruin it

  • In your video you mentioned "fans" not hard drives. Hard drives through normal use of the OS will fragment the filing system over time. A virus could make the HD work harder and max out your CPU cycles, but the system will crash before any real damage would occur. You would HAVE to reinstall Windows and the virus would be gone. Thus your claim that IE will damage your hardware is Horseshit.

  • watch?v=uIdgehcWIzQ

  • You claim in your vid link ( watch?v=m01Wt6ccJvk ) that the chain of infection goes from -- Bad HTML >> ActiveX >> IE >> File System >>

Driver >> Bios >> Hardware. This is inaccurate. I believe that it goes -- Bad HTML >> IE >> ActiveX >> OS >> File System OR kernel >> Hardware. This is all processed by the CPU. The BIOS is not in the picture at all....once POST is completed it hands control over to the OS which communicates directly with the hardware. Your scenario has no basis in fact.

  • i understand that but the way the kernal talks to the hardware is through the BIOS so im still correct

  • I don't believe that's true (kernel - BIOS - hardware.) Can you prove that? Post a link please. I don't believe that the BIOS does any processing. I believe it goes through the CPU (there may be a copy of the Bios within the OS). The Bios is just mostly data with machine code that is processed through the CPU at POST. It would seem stupid and cumbersome for the kernel to always be seeking permission from the bios instead of directly communicating with the hardware VIA the mainboard.

  • thats how it works on linux couldnt tell you on windows there kernal is closed and macs use openfirmware not a BIOS

  • What I said is true on the x86 architecture. It doesn't matter which OS it is (Win, Linux). I don't know about Apples chip architecture though.

I still believe that IE, let alone Windows, will not harm hardware. You've said nothing yet that will convince me of that. I believe that "Why Internet Explorer can be harmful to your hardware" is the same as me saying "The world is flat, and here is why"

This video is not correct Internet Explorer will not harm your hardware.

  • apple uses an X86 arch but it doesnt use a BIOS it uses ope firmware i never sid windows could what i am sayig is tha internet exploere leaves many holes to exploit and id also like to mention there re windows cerfied motherboards specifically made to communicate with windows this product does communicate with the OS but for the most part your right

  • Windows Certified Motherboards just means that MS and the manufacturer got together and consulted on drivers that were placed within the Windows CD/DVD. It's marketing. Those same motherboards would work as well in Linux if the correct drivers were written by the community.

I may be wrong but I thought that IBM invented the x86 architecture then gave it away and apple had their own propriety arch....until recently they introduced Intel processors.

  • bullshit

  • You're either full of sh*t or dumb. IE will not damage your hardware, nor will any viruses. Worst comes to worst you'll just need to do a clean install of XP. It may corrupt your file system and Data but never hardware.

  • your stupid the fileing system id on your hard drive if any virus get in there they can really fuck up how your hardrive spins thus screwing up hard ware jackass

  • Thats Bullshit....playing a video file then suddenly turning off the power would do more damage than any virus I've heard of to a hard drive. You are talking about viruses through infection of IE. Tell me about "any virus" that does what you claim. I will apologize for my ignorance if you do this....otherwise stop spreading propaganda. I'm no fan of IE BTW I just dislike uninformed people feeding me horseshit and telling me it's prime rib.

  • watch?v=uIdgehcWIzQ

  • Wow I didn't think you were that dense. The name is joxman2k not jackass

  • he sounds different

  • wow that sucks, I use Internet explorer

  • And look at those useless apps! An analog clock? A calendar? LOOK AT ALL THE LOOSE FILES ON YOUR DESKTOP. MY GOD, LOOK AT THE TASKBAR!

Please put your computer out of its misery.

  • i dont use windows not my comp :)

  • Well thank goodness for that.

  • i use linux and OSX

  • Look how many fucking toolbars you have. It's like someone who never changes their oil, then wonders why the car keeps breaking down.

Your computer crashes because you can't maintain it.

  • I used this all the time since i was 5 and nothing happened

  • IE is dying thanks for telling people about this

  • wow, thanks for the info :)

i have had some problems with IE

btw, did you have some problems with your mic in this video? static

  • that tells me u know nufin about "ANIT VIRUS"

    DUR

  • how to get antivirus

    INSTALL LINUX

antivirus software is about no good a week after you buy it new virus patches are made everyday

  • wow your cpu is working over time. Time to upgrade your hardware!

  • problem, he is using a laptop

  • Good luck trying to convince my uncle about that. He believes that Firefox is horrible an that NO WRONG can come from IE...

  • is there a way i cud take it out completely? like its useless i use firefox.

  • I'll use something else when there is something important in my computer.

  • You play WOW Sam...?

  • what's the best web browser?

  • FF or Opera, opera comes with everything a FF user wants to add or customize so it makes it easier.

  • FireFoz

  • Glad I don't have to worry about that crap any more. I'm running a functioning hackintosh.

  • Naughty Internet Explorer >=(

  • wow you relly hate explorer

  • he really hates microsoft

  • ...I need to get firefox.

  • Everyone just get fire fox.

  • ur mic is messed up

  • probably because he was using IE and it damaged his microphone!

  • Hey, I use IE all the time, and so far, nothing bad's happened. Sure, it messes up on me sometimes and I have to restart, but it's not that bad. Personally, I just like using IE for some reason.

  • please stop

  • Stop what? I'm just saying I'm used to using IE.

  • Firefox 3 FTW

  • hey, why was your sound a little fuzzy?

and I use Windows but I use Firefox, not IE

  • how would it get infected

  • porn

  • oh shit then my pc is probably infected

  • LOL :D

  • whoa thats pretty convincing, would it still happen if i had norton security?

  • Hey Samuel, all Vista has is a decent looking GUI, at least use windows aero, we know Vista performs crappy, but it doesn't have to look that way lol

  • but it slows it down EVEN more

  • That is no different from any other windows virus, if a virus gets on your drive, of course it has access to your filing system, but i still highly dought you can ruin any piece of hardware (with the exception of harddrive due to everyday use) with active x. sam, you have still shown me no proof.

  • what browser do use?

  • I never knew this. Oh well, this is why people switch to Firefox, but I've more or less always used firefox, go firefox!

  • man IE doesn't do anyone good.

    it's too flawed too.

  • Technically, nothing is safe. It's degrees of vulnerability, and IE is the worst for it, because of exactly what Samuel says. IE is nothing more than an add-on for explorer. Hence why if you put a web address into an explorer window, it swaps into an IE window seamlessly.

  • wouldn't u end up getting a blue screen if your disk got messed up? i got it, but i rebooted, and reinstalled windows, and re wrote my files that could've gotten damaged

  • could the wii get infected if you go to a site that is infected? and thats why i dont use ie.

  • the wii uses opera

  • i know wii uses opera i was asking if i go to a site on pc that is infected your pc could crash and die could the same thing happen to the wii

  • nah its completely different

  • I agree with nnasby i bet Ubuntu would work wonders on that laptop :P

  • I just started using an iMac, clearly Mozilla on it is superior than IE.

  • What was wrong with your microphone?

  • windows

  • Why didn't you take that computer thats running windows and put GNU/Linux on it? Because Windows STINKS! God!

  • safari is good but the download's are fucking slow

  • why are you using hypercam do you want Camstdio of Camtasia Samuel

  • because i wanted to piss you off :P

  • its fine with me

  • So is thare a safest Internet Explorer and i dont get it howcome all Internet Explorers is harmful to a hardware?

  • yes they are i recommend firefox

  • Because if it is hacked they can control you processor speed and everything. They could burn up your pc.

  • there is no safe internet explorer if it gets hacked ur files system goes with it

  • SAM!!! WHY ARE YOU ON VISTA! lol

  • because i needed to make this video

  • never thought id see you using windows

  • lol ive used it before

  • I actually enjoy using windows vista. Can you people explain why it sucks? Besides the fact that is uses up a lot of ram/processor/etc?

  • Firefox> All

    First btw :P
