If the US wants North Korea to give up its nukes, US should give up its own nukes and demand Russia, China, Britain, France, India, Pakistan, Israel to give up their nukes as well.
why is North Korea scary? they are not threatening anyone with drones, daisy cutters, depleted uranium, sanctions, Guantanamo bay style prison, cruise missiles from aircraft carriers and on and on. they are not invading countries for oil. they are not sexually molesting airline passengers like TSA. they are not doing NAZI style profiling like homeland security. they don't posses the highest number of nuclear weapons in the world. they don't have homeless people like us. then why are they so bad?
So many comments condemning this guy. He wants to defect to North Korea, I couldn't give a toss. My life in the western world is fab...that's all that matters.
First of all, one cannot "defect" from a free country. Second, Dresnok seems like a low-life scumbag who would have probably ended up in jail in the US.
@SuperGetitgotitgood You have not to be in Korea so take your suitcase and go back to your family which is thinking everyday if you'll ever come back or not. Poor American brainwashed citizens! Why should you go and kill innocent people why you split countries from which you even don't know the history...

@MrGavrilovic ......."Poor American brainwashed citzens!" Really? We get to choose who our leaders are in the U.S. North Korean's don't get that option. North Koreans can't even travel abroad if they want to. Why? Because then North Koreans might start thinking for themselves and revolt against the horrible regime that controls them! North and South Korea should be united into one Democratic Nation! North Korea is to blame for every horrible thing that has happened to them!

"They might be a different race...different color."
Last time I checked there was no "American race" or color for that matter. I guess this moron thinks white people are more American than non-whites? What a relic from the past, idiot. lol
@HumaninSeoul I thought you were referring to Joe in North Korea, who made that statement in the video. If you are referring to an earlier poster, I apologize.
I was referring to Joe when he was talking about Americans compared to North Koreans. He said "They might be a different race." when in reality Americans are also Asian. The point is that he has this idea in his mind that Americans are white by definition. That definition is provably false. QED.
@HumaninSeoul Ok, I thought he was referring to himself compared to them. All the same, I guess his point is that he had to emerge himself in a different culture, being of a different race. I get your point, however, but I don't think he meant it that way. Myself, I would really like to know what life is like for his son, growing up in the North Korean culture, surrounded by Koreans, speaking Korean, but being White and having blonde hair.
"surrounded by Koreans" ~ I guess you simply don't follow my train of thought. His son, by definition of his birth place, would be Korean. I guess you're conflating nationality with racial identity. Perhaps you haven't studied much on the nuances of these issues. I will leave you to your generalizations. I've typed enough in this YT comments section trying to abolition misaprehension abotu this issue.
@HumaninSeoul No, actually I have studied such issues quite a lot. I know the differences between race, ethnicity, and culture. You can be born into any culture, but this does not change your race or ethnicity. I do know, as my degree concerns a foreign culture, and I spent several years studying and living in that culture. Good day to you, sir.
Socialist revisionism pure and simple, the bomb dropped saved multiple American and Jap lives as it pushed a fanatical regime to the surrender point. All indicators were that casualties would have been 1.5 million if the Americans invaded Japan( most of those would have been Japanese). Epic fail commie.
I hate it when people like JCMac777 think they are so much smarter then everyone because they went to college and listened to everything their professor told them. What in the hell is the difference between a scholar and zombie these days.
A wasted life, Joe. A wasted life. And you'll always be a freak there. Never regarded as a real person. The only way you'll leave there is when you die.
A wasted life, Joe. A wasted life. And you'll always be a freak there. Never regarded as a real person. The only way you'll leave there is when you die.
He is a waste of sperm and egg and is a disgrace to the American armed forces, and America in a whole. If he ever try and go to back into the States, they should arrest him for high treason and spend life in prison!
@calisse245 It is a matter of opinion. Why would someone leave freedom and prosperity in America (or Canada) and move to North Korea where you can't even listen to outside music?
-- WHAT this guy would be if he stayed in USA ,drug dealer, nobody, 80% chance he would be in Prison in USA , LARGEST prison population on EARTH is USA, They put people in prison for smoking WEED, Fuck the USA all GOOD is pure Jewish propaganda. USA is shit, orphan going from home to home , his life in USA was HELL ,
He found his happiness in N.Korea that is a miracle , This is how THINGS happen. But you have to allow it to happen.
@aviomaster You do know that 1.85% of the population in America are Jewish so what you said about the USA having Jewish propaganda is wrong. I can't see how could of come up with something so far fetched. This man was a high school drop-out. Of course he was nothing in America. He would of been nothing in North Korea as well if he had not of been a piece of propaganda and made money from movies.
North Korea isin't as bad as you think. Pretend you live in North Korea, there they make USA look like a living hell and meanwhile in USA they make North Korea look like hell. See you guys are all brainwashed open your eyes its just the truth
@TheUSSRsoviet There's a major difference. In the US, there is freedom of information-- citizens are allowed to criticize and protest against their government. In North Korea, citizens are not allowed to migrate nor are they permitted to access information that would characterize their government any differently than would be presentable.
@sherwelthlangley Question in US if you want to migrate but don't have any money ??? Eh you stay put so so long for freedom of movement !!!! Man in western world ''Freedom'' goes with the possibility to pay.... if you have no cash you can travel but how damn it ????? No money no candy..... only a concept after all !!!
@calisse245 Restrictions on interstate or international mobility in/from/to the United States because of socioeconomic barriers is really irrelevant to the discussion. What we're talking about is authoritarian policy that makes it illegal to migrate in North Korea regardless of one's financial means. Whether or not you have money does not preclude you from facing the penalty of hard time in a labor camp if you move without official sanction.
@TheUSSRsoviet um...people in north korea have never even laid their eyes on the statue of liberty...we on the other hand, have freedom of press, media, n other shit so we can experience the outside world...China is a communist country, but it's not a bad place to live...North korea on the other hand is also a communist country and it's a shithole...u obviously havnt seen enough
If you think this guy is happy your just as full of it as NK. He was force to make is video to make NK look happy and pleasent... just like from day one his job has been. One bad word about NK this man would be living the rest of his life in camp just like all NK people before him.
@aviomaster The fact that he MAY be happy is less a reflection on the quality of life in North Korea, and more on his unique position as both a celebrity and a propaganda asset. Seriously, if there were, say, 50,000 Americans living in North Korea, do you think they'd all be receiving similar treatment?
And yes, while he may indeed be content with his life as it is, I hope you realize that if he would jump at the chance to come back to America, you certainly wouldn't hear him say it here.
Sounds like he's rehearsed that story a few times. Still it is quite interesting. It's difficult to try to figure out what his reasons were... Cowardice? Insanity? Maybe it was truly just to escape from a life he wasn't happy with.
Dresnok clearly suffered from mental illness which lead him to act the way he did in '62. From the responses he gave, he certainly still suffers from it: being ostracized in Korean society would fortify such an illness.
@frtw4428 Do you really think Dresnok can speak freely? His and his family's life is on the line. Fact is after Dresnok and 3 others defected to North Korea they sought political asylum at the Soviet embassy they were so disgusted by life in the DPRK. He is trapped, has nowhere to go and knows it. He is a broken man a prisoner of his own making.
give them to a neutral country like sweden. bobby fischer defected from the us and sweden took him in. i feel sorry for them, but at least they had each other. they were just kids who were confused. i hope they find peace. while they are there, they should take out kim jong il, because hes a mean jerk who reminds me of dr evil
least da dude got free healthcare and celebrity life :) In US he would've got crap welfare check and lotsa credit card debt, this guy is a smart marketer.
@YetAnthony --------The Koreans are using him as propaganda? -------->Now it's easier 4 NK film industry 2 find white guy to act like villan 4 propaganda flick.
The American reporter is clearly trying to give a completely biased view of the facts, he just can't stand the fact that an American can actually be a Communist
@Wakizashiwakizashi Oh yes, because obviously communism presents a higher standard of living then Capitalism. Just look at China, or good ole' North Korea. People like you are the people who hinder the cause of Communism.
@Donavan68 South Korea used to be a dictatorship for ~25 years or so and North Korea was actually doing better than it for a long time even though it had been completely destroyed. The starvation is actually very recent, since 1991 because of US sanctions (Kim Jong Il is still a bad leader though).
And yes, communism does provide a higher standard of living, if the Chinese and Russian revolutions had been capitalistic they never would have become superpowers and would have remained poor.
@ahuj89 Yes, North Korea did a remarkable job in rebuilding their country, but who paid for it? I'll tell you... USSR and China. Since when does communism provide a higher standard of living? Furthermore, what you are saying about starvation in North Korea is true in that it's recent, but not because of sanctions, but because of the collapse of the "communist" states in Europe and the Soviet Union. Then when China ultimately introduced capitalism, NK's source of wealth went the way of the dodo.
Capitalism has existed since the middle ages; arguably earlier than that.
Communism--in practice--started in 1917 with Lenin.
How about you compare deaths DIRECTLY caused by Capitalism STARTING in 1917, versus deaths directly caused by communism. I think you will have a very different answer.
@emoisgay789 Actually Communist regimes are responsible for a greater number of deaths than any other political ideal or movement, including Nazism. Communism has killed over 94 million people: 65 million in the People's Republic of China, 20 million in the Soviet Union, 2 million in Cambodia, 2 million in North Korea, 1.7 million in Africa, 1.5 million in Afghanistan, 1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe, 1 million in Vietnam, and 150,000 in Latin America.
@ShiningNow "65 million in the People's Republic of China" Bullshit numbers. Not even the most conservative statistics agree with you. "20 million in the Soviet Union" Bullshit once more. "2 million in Cambodia" Not communist; actively funded by CIA. Was paid $51 million (not modern-day super-inflation, mind you) to fight against communists. "2 million in North Korea" Possibly so, possibly not. Does anyone have stats on North Korea? No. "1.7 million in Africa" Bullshit. "Afghanistan" Inflated.
@ShiningNow Continued. "1.7 million in Africa" Civil war is not the fault of Communism. In most African countries, the struggle was between autocratic capitalists and communists. It is the equivalent of the communists of Germany fighting against the emergence of fascism. "1.5 million in Afghanistan" Perhaps the only true statistic you have. "1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe" Bullshit. "1 million in Vietnam" US invasion. Their fault. "150,000 in Latin America" BULL. SHIT.
The woman he was married to and the one he's married to now were forced on him by the government. Did he ever love them? No matter how incompatable they were, they had no choice but to marry. This woman and the one before are like Hollywood stage props, stunt doubles. No way a man from the old south would marry the daughter of an African on his own free will. He'd dump her like a hot potato if he ever came back to the U.S.
A sociopath headed for probably a life in a US prison and/or a life of crime, petty or in the mob. He chooses N Korea over his inevitable loser life in the USA.
A true American loser with no spine. Defects and tries to re-defect and realizes he is stuck. Drinking Jack Daniels and smoking away every day sounds like Communist utopia. Sounds like he rotting away from lung disease. He will be a small insignificant foot print in the Cold War saga. I just want to pack and move to North Korea now!

Try to think: when he was in NK, he made a lots of lies to survive, pretending to be nice.... imagining that make me sick! When he is back to US, he also needs to make a lots of lies.... My god....
Look at him!! I don't think he had a terrible life in NK.
This is a really not good and not nice man without spirit.

He may be a movie star and someone popular there in DPRK, but his standard of living is NOWHERE near mine. He lives in a small apartment, eating rations constantly being watched...! No thanks.
oh my goodness! that's Nick!!! I've met him! in fact, we had a conversation on the Juche Idea, questioning it's existance! He runs Koryo tours, a tour company that operates out of beijing that arranges tours to pyongyang, through which I went to North Korea earlier this year.... I met Nick the day before I went there!
@xxwzaebd To be fair, you can't blame it on Marxism. Communism is just another corrupt idea; no one has really executed what Marx wrote about without turning it into another crappy dictatorship.
@82abhilash Hey, that might be the ONLY thing about North Korea that's good, assuming that you're right. Imagine never having to be told, "Get lost, creep," in a singles bar!
@Anton1941 He had a better and more significant life? In an oppressed communist state like North Korea? Lets see. There is little variety of food to eat there, no possibility of owning a car. No entertainment like a proper cinema, or even proper radio or TV. No proper books or magazines, unless you want to listen to or read state propaganda all the time. No freedom to travel; even inside North Korea. You go and be a movie star in North Korea. I'm happy with my unknown life in the west thanks.
@concordesm2010 I agree with you, but to paraphrase Milton, there are always some people out there who want to be somebody in Hell rather than a nobody in Heaven. I prefer the latter myself, but hey, that's just me.
Wow...so many hateful comments towards this guy! He might be a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but he knew what he wanted! What ever happened to freedom of choice?
Invading army; Brutal police rule; your every move monitored and recorded; your money taken by the government no matter how hard you work for it; a selfish society that kills, robs and shows no care for its citizens - and that's just the USA!! I expect this comment will pull in a lot of hate comments from some, but like I care!
This guy is a bum. If he'd stayed in the US he would probably have been kicked out of the army, worked minimum wage jobs and ended up in jail.
I don't think he likes North Korea as much as you think. I reckon he's been very heavily brainwashed and probably in denial. It says it all when he still considers himself American even after living in Pyongyang for 40+ years.
On the one hand he was a traitor. . . but on the other hand, here was a man that was very young, couldn't bear war anymore, fucked around, railed against the system. . . and defected.
In an albeit way, I kinda admire him. But, he should consider himself lucky. Any other country would of tortured and executed him.
My main regret is, is that he would of made a fucking cool villain actor, like Jack Palance. That voice, what a lost talent!
Actually he was in far more danger in NK than he would have been elsewhere. Quite a few Americans defected to East Germany. They got interrogated, then sent to the USSR, where they were interrogated more, and eventually repatriated. When Dresnok and the others tried to go to the USSR they got turned back over to the DPRK, as stated above.
I don't admire him but I do find him a fairly sympathetic character. His life was hard and the American Dream had no meaning for him, no applicability.
It would be more apt to call North Korea a Stalinist state rather than communist. It's communist in name only. I bet you, most of the fucking nimrods who shout anti-commie rants don't even understand what communism is. Much less even explain what capitalism is, nor do they have any substantial grasp of economic and political theory.
I completely agree with you. When I am taking on individuals like Pyongang100 who are only replying to my economic and political points with comments like "North Korea is the best!", I can see why integration will not happen in our lifetimes. The new generation who is untainted by views forced onto them must lead the country.

@TheUSSRsoviet There's a major difference. In the US, there is freedom of information-- citizens are allowed to criticize and protest against their government. In North Korea, citizens are not allowed to migrate nor are they permitted to access information that would characterize their government any differently than would be presentable.
sherwelthlangley 1 year ago
@sherwelthlangley Question in US if you want to migrate but don't have any money ??? Eh you stay put so so long for freedom of movement !!!! Man in western world ''Freedom'' goes with the possibility to pay.... if you have no cash you can travel but how damn it ????? No money no candy..... only a concept after all !!!
calisse245 9 months ago
@calisse245 Restrictions on interstate or international mobility in/from/to the United States because of socioeconomic barriers is really irrelevant to the discussion. What we're talking about is authoritarian policy that makes it illegal to migrate in North Korea regardless of one's financial means. Whether or not you have money does not preclude you from facing the penalty of hard time in a labor camp if you move without official sanction.
sherwelthlangley 9 months ago
@TheUSSRsoviet um...people in north korea have never even laid their eyes on the statue of liberty...we on the other hand, have freedom of press, media, n other shit so we can experience the outside world...China is a communist country, but it's not a bad place to live...North korea on the other hand is also a communist country and it's a shithole...u obviously havnt seen enough

aviomaster 1 year ago

Cowardice? Insanity? Maybe it was truly just to escape from a life he wasn't happy with.
sw0rd0fadvers1ty 1 year ago 3
Dresnok clearly suffered from mental illness which lead him to act the way he did in '62. From the responses he gave, he certainly still suffers from it: being ostracized in Korean society would fortify such an illness.
frtw4428 1 year ago
@frtw4428 Do you really think Dresnok can speak freely? His and his family's life is on the line. Fact is after Dresnok and 3 others defected to North Korea they sought political asylum at the Soviet embassy they were so disgusted by life in the DPRK. He is trapped, has nowhere to go and knows it. He is a broken man a prisoner of his own making.

TheTypicalGirl 1 year ago
@TheTypicalGirl I was being very sarcastic. :) Sorry, that doesn't translate well to the internet.
Donavan68 1 year ago
@Donavan68 South Korea used to be a dictatorship for ~25 years or so and North Korea was actually doing better than it for a long time even though it had been completely destroyed. The starvation is actually very recent, since 1991 because of US sanctions (Kim Jong Il is still a bad leader though).
And yes, communism does provide a higher standard of living, if the Chinese and Russian revolutions had been capitalistic they never would have become superpowers and would have remained poor.
ahuj89 1 year ago 4

EliteKiller07 5 months ago
@emoisgay789 You're Truly Nuts--Capitalism is a Good thing; you must educate and learn it's culture-
Capitalism is a Culture not an economic system.
Now you losers and misfits want a Nanny State to "take care of you-"

skywiz3 5 months ago
@emoisgay789 Actually Communist regimes are responsible for a greater number of deaths than any other political ideal or movement, including Nazism. Communism has killed over 94 million people: 65 million in the People's Republic of China, 20 million in the Soviet Union, 2 million in Cambodia, 2 million in North Korea, 1.7 million in Africa, 1.5 million in Afghanistan, 1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe, 1 million in Vietnam, and 150,000 in Latin America.

hooverboy2747 2 years ago
On the one hand he was a traitor. . . but on the other hand, here was a man that was very young, couldn't bear war anymore, fucked around, railed against the system. . . and defected.
In an albeit way, I kinda admire him. But, he should consider himself lucky. Any other country would of tortured and executed him.
My main regret is, is that he would of made a fucking cool villain actor, like Jack Palance. That voice, what a lost talent!
Wasted on the fucking slopes.
Let him come back I say!
1920VictorianGent 2 years ago
Actually he was in far more danger in NK than he would have been elsewhere. Quite a few Americans defected to East Germany. They got interrogated, then sent to the USSR, where they were interrogated more, and eventually repatriated. When Dresnok and the others tried to go to the USSR they got turned back over to the DPRK, as stated above.
I don't admire him but I do find him a fairly sympathetic character. His life was hard and the American Dream had no meaning for him, no applicability.

I completely agree with you. When I am taking on individuals like Pyongang100 who are only replying to my economic and political points with comments like "North Korea is the best!", I can see why integration will not happen in our lifetimes. The new generation who is untainted by views forced onto them must lead the country.
