@LindaMcGrad I agree, it's true that if you eat less calories your body will start getting accostumed to it and you won't be losing lbs. So people don't do it, and don't even try starving because your body will go into starving mode and try saving whatever fat it can.
Carbs do make you gain weight, I've gained like 5 lbs. in a matter of days, since Thanksgiving I've been eating so many rolls and pie and since then carbs have been coming out of nowhere. Ima definitely cut the carbs for now!!
@VannaCuppycake13 Starvation Mode is overly exagerated. If you need 3000 calories a day for your BMR and you keep your intake at 1500 your metabolism isn't going to stop just like that. Sure, it will slow down, but it takes weeks and even months for the body to adjust.

@prinnyliveshere Oh, I totally agree with you there. Me and my partner tried reluctantly that diet program after a friend of us suggested it. He was all excited but we were quite skeptical, never believed in all these internet crappy courses.

When your body is used to getting energy from carbohydrates, and you suddenly start eating fewer than you're used to, yes, you will feel the lack of energy the first few days or even week. But your body adjusts to your new eating pattern, and starts taking energy from different recourses, like the bigger amounts of protein, the calories, your fat reserves and excercising! You cannot only eat fewer carbohydrates; you have to do this in combination with more protein.

Second of all, she's addressing the common things people do. There's people on both ends of the spectrum, who eat too little and too much. Those are both common reasons why people are overweight. If you eat just fine and exercise, you should be loosing weight.

"What you eat determines what you lose!" (I forgot where I heard this quote) But its so true. High protein diets allow preservation of muscle while losing fat and high protein keeps you fuller longer, making it easier to consume less throughout the day. High Carb and high fat diets will make it hard as hell to be in fat burning mode because you will always be providing your body with carbs, its preferred energy source or you wont get enough nutrients with a diet rich in fat.
Losing weight is NOT what most people aim to do when starting a diet or exercise routine. FAT LOSS is what people desire and these tips are perfect for that. If you look at the diets and work out routines of fitness/figure models, bodybuilders and athletes, they never starve themselves and then go workout. @WoWbob396 I agree. Check out Greg Elliss. His account on here is Byebyecarbs. He says that everyone who claims that they're eating 1200 calories a day and not losing weight is because they are eating far more than 1200 calories. You body'll make metabolic adaptations to you caloric intake, but nowhere near the amount people claim. Your body doesn't go into "Starvation mode". Brad Pilon(Eat Stop Eat) refers to Clinical Studies showing women who ate only 500 calories a day lost lots of weight.

@WoWbob396 I like the Leangains idea as well, but prefer to fast 12+ hours as opposed to 16 hours. Exercising on a fasted stomach is optimal for fatloss anyway. This whole eating before you exercise thing is crap. What since does it make to load up on carbs right before you exercise(cardio specifically) when your goal is to lose fat?
@WoWbob396 I'll fast for 11 hours, then I'll engage in exercise(weight training or cardio) for the 12th hour after which I will break the fast. I generally only consume protein and fat during the first 6 hours to keep insulin low, and then I'll consume the bulk of my carbs and calories in the last 6 hours.
@PsychopathInFoil yeah I normally go without eating from normally 14-16 hours, before I used to do 19-21 hour fast which wasn't really that bad at all, when you start weight training you don't feel as hungry since weight training is a natural appetite suppressant and I actually hit a few PRs after not eating for 21+ hours. When I normally eat, I just make sure I eat enough protein and the rest is fair game lol.
@WoWbob396 How many carbs do you eat each day? And when you do consume them? Because I consume about 100 - 150 grams of carbohydrates a day and ussually all in one meal. I find that consuming all my carbs in one sitting as opposed to splitting them up through out the eating time period to be better in avoiding sugar cravings which will lead into binging.
What happened to all important EXERCISE? Yeah, eating healthy is important, but as long as you're exercising then your body is much more stable and losing weight is much easier. Sugar and oxygen combine to burn fat. When you aren't excising, the part of fat cells that collects fat is more active, while the part that helps you burn fat is weakening. Exercise reverses that effect, so that it is harder to gain weight and easier to lose any.
Although, considering you seem to think that ALL it is is calories in/calories out, I'm gonna take a guess that you just like arguing with people rather than caring about gaining knowledge in this area.

I'm 15 years old and I weigh 117 pounds but I'm 5'2 and it's not the tummy that's really the problem it's the sides.. I guess I'm more curvier i dunno but I eat 2 meals a day and don't eat much snacks if I do they're apples or carrots. I go on the treadmill for 30 or 40 min a day and do like pushups and sit ups.

Most of the body is controlable with spirituality and can heal this way though most do not ever use this tool. The Heart is a tool, thoughts are a tool. Nothing happens until a thought occurs. So, we do not get fat until a thought occurs also. What you eat is important but how you think about it is just as. Not many beleive and this is problem #1, saying it doesnt work means thats what you want. It works.

You burn more calories at certain parts of the day (i.e. 3:00 pm) Water and building muscle are key to healthy living let alone losing weight. I highly doubt you are a nutritionist. Ever hear about the Twinkie Diet guy Mark Haubs? Ate the basic American Diet of junk food and lost weight. His average caloric intake was a less than 1500 calories a day when averaged out over 10 weeks. People would say he would go into "Starvation Mode" eating so few calories. Did he? Nope. Lost 27 pounds in 10 weeks. "Oh, but he must have lost only muscle", you say. Did he? Nope, infact out of 27 pounds lost, only 6 were from muscle loss. That isn't actually any thing to worry about.

I am living proof that some your theory's work! I'm tired of the ''know it all'' type of people! They are usually the ones that are unhappy with their bodies. It's easy, try to incorporate any kind of exercise in your daily routine, drink water every couple of hours, and do an activity that makes you happy(at least once a week) even if it's just a walk=D. Now when it comes to food it's okay to let yourself have what you want, ie a few bites of ice cream...but dont go off judgment every meal.

I think its awesome that your helping people lose weight, reach thier goals etc and yeah if it helps them then its got to be good.but tip 1 you say if you dont eat frequently enough or eat to little your body will go into starvation mode which is pretty silly,thats exactly what body fat is for,energy to use when you dont have food,its not going to "hold on to it".and building 2 3 pounds muscle takes serious strength training and takes ages for a 100or200 calories that can be eaten in a few bites
She is so right about measuring your food. I didn't lose weight until I began to measure everything. I lost 60 pounds--three years ago! And it's still off. And yes, I still measure my food. It's a small price to pay for being thin:)

I had gained an extra 20 pounds this year....but thanks to the Good Lord helping me out I lost the extra 20 pounds this year plus I lost an extra 3 pounds from my original weight. Yay! I'm on my way to losing more! I'm still obesed, (due to hypothyroidism) but I'm on my way to a healthy weight and I'm excited! :) The key that I found to help me lose weight is I eat veggies in bulk, a little fruit and lean meat & tea.

She has great advice. And yes, what you eat, how much you work out, and all that matters. Eating less is good as well but at some point your body goes into starvation mode. It will destroy your muscles first and hold onto all the fat and crap from the food you are eating. And since muscle weighs more, it'll show you are losing weight. Then after muscle, your body uses the fat to keep it going. It burns these up cuz your body needs energy which comes from healthy food. So yes, what you eat matte
These are bad tips,the only thing you need to do is eat less calories than you need,doesnt matter how. types of food dont matter timing of meals doesnt matter,just find a way to eat less thats easy for you.focusing on things like water and building muscle really dont matter it makes such a small diference.putting on 1 pound of muscle is way harder than it sounds
@chadz393 How are these bad tips Chad? My clients have (collectively) lost 1,000s of kilos over the years by following such advice. Building lean muscle mass, utilising progressive overload, understanding the true meaning of 'serving size', eliminating crap food etc. is all advice that will put you on the right track. I think you're just finding fault where no fault lies.
@chadz393 how much nutrition education do you have????? Because, believe it or not, it is A LOT more complicated than that!!!!!! The type of food you eat and the frequency you eat IS VERY VERY VERY important!!! Refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, hydroginated oils, preservatives, and any other man-made chemicals in food are going to reek HAVOC on your body and make it MUCH more difficult to lose weight!!! Try it and I promise you will see a difference quickly AND not just in your weight!!!
@cgkm2323 you seriously do not need much if any "nutrition education" to lose bodyfat if you can count calories on labels etc then you sweet..the only reason you hear or read about the things you listed is usually from someone trying to sell you something.it is hard to reduce calories but thats what it takes.people try seek easy solutions by doing their own research on the things you listed.

It's not just about losing weight. If you JUST cut calories, you're not only going to lose body fat, but muscle too. This information has been scientifically proven many times over. When you put these comments up, you are misleading people. I encourage you to do your own research. I already have.
Also, what makes you think that cutting out refined sugar, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high fructose corn syrup out of you diet is an easy solution??? Check your labels--this stuff is in EVERYTHING. And, the hydrogenated oils are TRANS FATS. Bad bad bad. LIke I said earlier, this is not just about being skinny. This is about being healthy. PLEASE, go to the library, check out some books, look up some scientific studies in medical health journals. I can recommend some for you.
@chadz393 You shouldn't comment on things you obviously have no grasp of - since you're misleading at least 187 people. The larger your muscles the more food energy they consume - therefore storing less fat. Drinking water helps your body metabolise stored fat as well as quenches your feeling of hunger. Focusing purely on calorie consumption - calories burned is also the same approach bulimics have for weight loss - is that what you're encouraging?
burning more calories than you take in is the only way to lose fat its a fact and science has closed the book on that a long time ago theres no debate their.so why wouldnt you focus on reducing calories if thats the only way to lose fat.if drinking more water and building more muscle works(maybe an extra 10 calories a day)its only because you are taking in less calories.so no matter what approch less calories is the reason for fat loss so why not focus on that
@chadz393 Yes, in the end of the day that is the determining factor of how you lose weight. But, this is teaching you to lose weight in a HEALTHY way. So, it is absolutely correct - follow these methods to lose weight in a healthy way.

@chadz393 There *is* debate. Check out one of Gary Taubes' books if you actually care about this. According to him (and the ton of studies he analyses), the calories in/calories out theory really doesn't work, at least not long term. What matters is WHAT you eat... specifically and in a nut shell, fat is good energy, sugar (including those from breaking down starch) messes things up and makes you gain weight. This is also consistent with my own experience.

@chadz393 No, if you lose weight by watching what you eat it's because your body processes things differently. Calories in/calories out doesn't work long term because your body will try to correct for too many or too few calories (try to use more energy or get hungry) if it's being fed the right things.
I say that my personal experience follows this because I'm losing more weight eating a bunch of high-calorie food like meat and nuts (but all good foods) than when I starved myself half the time
@chadz393 You can also look at who gets fat... at least in some cultures... being poor often means manual labor (so high calories out), and not being able to afford much in way of food. And what people CAN afford is often things like potatoes, so they end up being the fatter class instead of the rich who can afford to be relatively sedentary and eat plenty of meat etc.
@chadz393 Stupid Comment. These tips are better than your idea of just eating less. Ensuring you burn more calories than you take in goes without saying. But if you burn 2500 calories a day and you eat 2000 calories worth of big macs for your day. You're going to be losing weight but you'll likely be losing muscle Weight loss doesnt equal fat loss.
@Poontangclannn, not if youre resistance training.muscle loss will only occur when you start reaching critically low bodyfat levels which pretty much nobody has to worry about.you will lose a bit of size/volume due to less water and glycogen in the muscles but that will come back as soon as calories are back to normal
1. One of the tips is to include resistance training. One of the tips you said was a bad one.
2. Your body loves to burn muscle and hold onto fat. Cortisol promotes protein catabolism and it is a hormone released when you A. Do too much cardio, B. Do too much resistance training ( over an hour or so) C. when your stress levels are high. and D when you don't get enough sleep
These tips are very useful in conjunction with watching your input and output.
'Naturally thin' people's body use food in a way that regulates their weight and they don't get fat. Same food. Same exercise. But you stay thin or get thin if you started off with excesss weight.

this is probably a dumb question, but i didn't understand this from the video, how important is the target heart rate zone when you're just trying to lose weight? do you still burn as much fat if you aren't in this "zone"?
its not important at all.. with any effort to lose weight the harder you go the more total calories you'll burn. the target HR zone does burn directly from fat, but if you do High intensity excercise youre working harder which burns more total calories which will naturally take from fat stores. unless you are training for a marathon, dont do long slow runs at that heart rate crap. best thing would be weight training, interval running (short bursts) and circuit training ;)

@LindaMcGrad I agree, it's true that if you eat less calories your body will start getting accostumed to it and you won't be losing lbs. So people don't do it, and don't even try starving because your body will go into starving mode and try saving whatever fat it can.
Carbs do make you gain weight, I've gained like 5 lbs. in a matter of days, since Thanksgiving I've been eating so many rolls and pie and since then carbs have been coming out of nowhere. Ima definitely cut the carbs for now!!

@VannaCuppycake13 Starvation Mode is overly exagerated. If you need 3000 calories a day for your BMR and you keep your intake at 1500 your metabolism isn't going to stop just like that. Sure, it will slow down, but it takes weeks and even months for the body to adjust.

@prinnyliveshere Oh, I totally agree with you there. Me and my partner tried reluctantly that diet program after a friend of us suggested it. He was all excited but we were quite skeptical, never believed in all these internet crappy courses.

@crazystarf. Yes and no. When your body is used to getting energy from carbohydrates, and you suddenly start eating fewer than you're used to, yes, you will feel the lack of energy the first few days or even week. But your body adjusts to your new eating pattern, and starts taking energy from different recourses, like the bigger amounts of protein, the calories, your fat reserves and excercising! You cannot only eat fewer carbohydrates; you have to do this in combination with more protein.

Second of all, she's addressing the common things people do. There's people on both ends of the spectrum, who eat too little and too much. Those are both common reasons why people are overweight. If you eat just fine and exercise, you should be loosing weight.

"What you eat determines what you lose!" (I forgot where I heard this quote) But its so true. High protein diets allow preservation of muscle while losing fat and high protein keeps you fuller longer, making it easier to consume less throughout the day. High Carb and high fat diets will make it hard as hell to be in fat burning mode because you will always be providing your body with carbs, its preferred energy source or you wont get enough nutrients with a diet rich in fat.

Losing weight is NOT what most people aim to do when starting a diet or exercise routine. FAT LOSS is what people desire and these tips are perfect for that. If you look at the diets and work out routines of fitness/figure models, bodybuilders and athletes, they never starve themselves and then go workout. He says that everyone who claims that they're eating 1200 calories a day and not losing weight is because they are eating far more than 1200 calories. You body'll make metabolic adaptations to you caloric intake, but nowhere near the amount people claim. Your body doesn't go into "Starvation mode". Brad Pilon(Eat Stop Eat) refers to Clinical Studies showing women who ate only 500 calories a day lost lots of weight.

@WoWbob396 I like the Leangains idea as well, but prefer to fast 12+ hours as opposed to 16 hours. Exercising on a fasted stomach is optimal for fatloss anyway. This whole eating before you exercise thing is crap. What since does it make to load up on carbs right before you exercise(cardio specifically) when your goal is to lose fat?

@WoWbob396 I'll fast for 11 hours, then I'll engage in exercise(weight training or cardio) for the 12th hour after which I will break the fast. I generally only consume protein and fat during the first 6 hours to keep insulin low, and then I'll consume the bulk of my carbs and calories in the last 6 hours.

@PsychopathInFoil yeah I normally go without eating from normally 14-16 hours, before I used to do 19-21 hour fast which wasn't really that bad at all, when you start weight training you don't feel as hungry since weight training is a natural appetite suppressant and I actually hit a few PRs after not eating for 21+ hours. When I normally eat, I just make sure I eat enough protein and the rest is fair game lol.

@WoWbob396 How many carbs do you eat each day? And when you do consume them? Because I consume about 100 - 150 grams of carbohydrates a day and ussually all in one meal. I find that consuming all my carbs in one sitting as opposed to splitting them up through out the eating time period to be better in avoiding sugar cravings which will lead into binging.

What happened to all important EXERCISE? Yeah, eating healthy is important, but as long as you're exercising then your body is much more stable and losing weight is much easier. Sugar and oxygen combine to burn fat. When you aren't excising, the part of fat cells that collects fat is more active, while the part that helps you burn fat is weakening. Exercise reverses that effect, so that it is harder to gain weight and easier to lose any.

I don't think I'm fat but I want to loose at least 5 or 10 pounds.
I'm 15 years old and I weigh 117 pounds but I'm 5'2 and it's not the tummy that's really the problem it's the sides.. I guess I'm more curvier i dunno but I eat 2 meals a day and don't eat much snacks if I do they're apples or carrots. I go on the treadmill for 30 or 40 min a day and do like pushups and sit ups.

Mind/Decision will alter the body along with faith/prayer more then any work out.
Most of the body is controlable with spirituality and can heal this way though most do not ever use this tool. The Heart is a tool, thoughts are a tool. Nothing happens until a thought occurs. So, we do not get fat until a thought occurs also. What you eat is important but how you think about it is just as. Not many beleive and this is problem #1, saying it doesnt work means thats what you want. It works.

Ever hear about the Twinkie Diet guy Mark Haubs? Ate the basic American Diet of junk food and lost weight. His average caloric intake was a less than 1500 calories a day when averaged out over 10 weeks. People would say he would go into "Starvation Mode" eating so few calories. Did he? Nope. Lost 27 pounds in 10 weeks. "Oh, but he must have lost only muscle", you say. Did he? Nope, infact out of 27 pounds lost, only 6 were from muscle loss. That isn't actually any thing to worry about.

I am living proof that some your theory's work! I'm tired of the ''know it all'' type of people! They are usually the ones that are unhappy with their bodies. It's easy, try to incorporate any kind of exercise in your daily routine, drink water every couple of hours, and do an activity that makes you happy(at least once a week) even if it's just a walk=D. Now when it comes to food it's okay to let yourself have what you want, ie a few bites of ice cream...but dont go off judgment every meal.

I think its awesome that your helping people lose weight, reach thier goals etc and yeah if it helps them then its got to be good.but tip 1 you say if you dont eat frequently enough or eat to little your body will go into starvation mode which is pretty silly,thats exactly what body fat is for,energy to use when you dont have food,its not going to "hold on to it".and building 2 3 pounds muscle takes serious strength training and takes ages for a 100or200 calories that can be eaten in a few bites

She is so right about measuring your food. I didn't lose weight until I began to measure everything. I lost 60 pounds--three years ago! And it's still off. And yes, I still measure my food. It's a small price to pay for being thin:)

Great video and great tips!! Thanks for posting!! :) I enjoy your videos! I had gained an extra 20 pounds this year....but thanks to the Good Lord helping me out I lost the extra 20 pounds this year plus I lost an extra 3 pounds from my original weight. Yay! I'm on my way to losing more! I'm still obesed, (due to hypothyroidism) but I'm on my way to a healthy weight and I'm excited! :) The key that I found to help me lose weight is I eat veggies in bulk, a little fruit and lean meat & tea.

She has great advice. And yes, what you eat, how much you work out, and all that matters. Eating less is good as well but at some point your body goes into starvation mode. It will destroy your muscles first and hold onto all the fat and crap from the food you are eating. And since muscle weighs more, it'll show you are losing weight. Then after muscle, your body uses the fat to keep it going. It burns these up cuz your body needs energy which comes from healthy food. So yes, what you eat matte

These are bad tips,the only thing you need to do is eat less calories than you need,doesnt matter how. types of food dont matter timing of meals doesnt matter,just find a way to eat less thats easy for you.focusing on things like water and building muscle really dont matter it makes such a small diference.putting on 1 pound of muscle is way harder than it sounds

@chadz393 How are these bad tips Chad? My clients have (collectively) lost 1,000s of kilos over the years by following such advice. Building lean muscle mass, utilising progressive overload, understanding the true meaning of 'serving size', eliminating crap food etc. is all advice that will put you on the right track. I think you're just finding fault where no fault lies.

@chadz393 how much nutrition education do you have????? Because, believe it or not, it is A LOT more complicated than that!!!!!! The type of food you eat and the frequency you eat IS VERY VERY VERY important!!! Refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, hydroginated oils, preservatives, and any other man-made chemicals in food are going to reek HAVOC on your body and make it MUCH more difficult to lose weight!!! Try it and I promise you will see a difference quickly AND not just in your weight!!!

@cgkm2323 you seriously do not need much if any "nutrition education" to lose bodyfat if you can count calories on labels etc then you sweet..the only reason you hear or read about the things you listed is usually from someone trying to sell you something.it is hard to reduce calories but thats what it takes.people try seek easy solutions by doing their own research on the things you listed.

@chadz393 do me a favor... take those ingredients to a doctor and/or a nutritionist. Then listen to what they say. This has nothing to do with "selling you something." It's not just about losing weight. If you JUST cut calories, you're not only going to lose body fat, but muscle too. This information has been scientifically proven many times over. When you put these comments up, you are misleading people. I encourage you to do your own research. I already have.

Also, what makes you think that cutting out refined sugar, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and high fructose corn syrup out of you diet is an easy solution??? Check your labels--this stuff is in EVERYTHING. And, the hydrogenated oils are TRANS FATS. Bad bad bad. LIke I said earlier, this is not just about being skinny. This is about being healthy. PLEASE, go to the library, check out some books, look up some scientific studies in medical health journals. I can recommend some for you.

@chadz393 You shouldn't comment on things you obviously have no grasp of - since you're misleading at least 187 people. The larger your muscles the more food energy they consume - therefore storing less fat. Drinking water helps your body metabolise stored fat as well as quenches your feeling of hunger. Focusing purely on calorie consumption - calories burned is also the same approach bulimics have for weight loss - is that what you're encouraging?

burning more calories than you take in is the only way to lose fat its a fact and science has closed the book on that a long time ago theres no debate their.so why wouldnt you focus on reducing calories if thats the only way to lose fat.if drinking more water and building more muscle works(maybe an extra 10 calories a day)its only because you are taking in less calories.so no matter what approch less calories is the reason for fat loss so why not focus on that

@chadz393 There *is* debate. Check out one of Gary Taubes' books if you actually care about this. According to him (and the ton of studies he analyses), the calories in/calories out theory really doesn't work, at least not long term. What matters is WHAT you eat... specifically and in a nut shell, fat is good energy, sugar (including those from breaking down starch) messes things up and makes you gain weight. This is also consistent with my own experience.

@chadz393 No, if you lose weight by watching what you eat it's because your body processes things differently. Calories in/calories out doesn't work long term because your body will try to correct for too many or too few calories (try to use more energy or get hungry) if it's being fed the right things.
I say that my personal experience follows this because I'm losing more weight eating a bunch of high-calorie food like meat and nuts (but all good foods) than when I starved myself half the time

@chadz393 You can also look at who gets fat... at least in some cultures... being poor often means manual labor (so high calories out), and not being able to afford much in way of food. And what people CAN afford is often things like potatoes, so they end up being the fatter class instead of the rich who can afford to be relatively sedentary and eat plenty of meat etc.

But if you burn 2500 calories a day and you eat 2000 calories worth of big macs for your day. You're going to be losing weight but you'll likely be losing muscle Weight loss doesnt equal fat loss.

@Poontangclannn, not if youre resistance training.muscle loss will only occur when you start reaching critically low bodyfat levels which pretty much nobody has to worry about.you will lose a bit of size/volume due to less water and glycogen in the muscles but that will come back as soon as calories are back to normal

1. One of the tips is to include resistance training. One of the tips you said was a bad one.
2. Your body loves to burn muscle and hold onto fat. Cortisol promotes protein catabolism and it is a hormone released when you A. Do too much cardio, B. Do too much resistance training ( over an hour or so) C. when your stress levels are high. and D when you don't get enough sleep
These tips are very useful in conjunction with watching your input and output.

'Naturally thin' people's body use food in a way that regulates their weight and they don't get fat. Same food. Same exercise. But you stay thin or get thin if you started off with excesss weight.

this is probably a dumb question, but i didn't understand this from the video, how important is the target heart rate zone when you're just trying to lose weight? do you still burn as much fat if you aren't in this "zone"?

its not important at all.. with any effort to lose weight the harder you go the more total calories you'll burn. the target HR zone does burn directly from fat, but if you do High intensity excercise youre working harder which burns more total calories which will naturally take from fat stores. unless you are training for a marathon, dont do long slow runs at that heart rate crap. best thing would be weight training, interval running (short bursts) and circuit training ;)
