  • a wonderful time to be young. ! how come in those days young people all could dance? and they dont seem to bump into each other here . I am thinking of an episode of laverne and shirely where laverne and richie take part in a dance competition . that was super.

  • man i could watch this till i drop and i aint kiddin'

  • i just love this commercial for the cola it made me want to buy cola he could've sold aluminum siding and i would have thought of buying darin was a great salesman whether there was song or cola

  • Bobby did a great job, and these clips are priceless... I never heard any of these

songs ??? What year is this?? I danced on the Alan Freed Show, also the

Clay Cole Show... what great memories!!! Also went to the Saturday Night

Dick Clarke Show, from New York City-- Thanks for these clips.. Bobby D.

was "THE BEST", RIP- Marcie B.* xxx

  • wheres frankie lymon and the teenagers? didnt he dance with a white girl in the big beat

  • Man, Bobby was no pitch man, that's for sure........unless it was for himself:-)It also looks like he may have gone to the toupe already, prior to Mack......gotta be in early summer of '59. Bobby would not have landed this gig in '57, anyway.

  • thanks - i was just wondering - don't ya just LOVE those dresses, and GLOVES! I remember weaing white gloves to church...we certainly dressed up in those days..i did enjoy watching Bobby wiggle and cough, and scratch his nose in these videos!! wasn't he just too cute!! Thanks for posting them.

  • I particulary liked his pitch for Coke. It was just so rambling. I kept thinking. Don't quit your day (night?) job as a singer to become a product spokesperson!lol

  • Do you have a broadcast date for this show? I see that "40 Miles of Bad Road" got into the Top 40 in June of 1959, so maybe this show was right around that time. So, this would be very close to the time that Bobby did "Mack The Knife", the high point of his career.

  • No, I'm sorry I don't. The package for the video says it's 1957, but I know that's not right because, as you say, "40 Miles of Bad Road" didn't come out until 1959 and one of the prizes for the Miss April Showers contest is a 1959 Rambler. Jeff Bleiel doesn't have this show in his book on Bobby's career. It probably was summer because Bobby makes a comment about the weather being warm. It would be just prior to Mack success which was released as a single in August of 1959.

  • I remember seeing Bobby on "Cade's County" when I was a kid, where he played a western type who was somewhat delusional and was fantasizing about being Billy The Kid (or someone in his gang).

  • Yes, that's correct. His character was very delusional and thought that he was Billy The Kid.

  • It's July 9, 1959 according to "Bobby Darin: The Incredible Story Of An Amazing Life".

  • do we know who won the april showers contest?

i thought maybe they would mention it on this third part....

    just wondering.

  • No idea. They were still soliciting votes by mail during this show and wouldn't be announcing the winner until a future show. I wonder if there are any older New York City YouTubers out there who might have seen the show and remember who won.
