  • you sir, saved the day.

  • I inserted my new mac ram in my macbook pro 15, the mac doesnt turn on, I just get a flashing white light, i inserted my old ram back in and I still have the same problem! please help

  • @CallusDnb I have this same problem..

I know that you going to regret it.

    Your hard drive might broken.

You had to go apple store and repair it.

it spend like over 900$ CAD well I price is overall to US.

I try to sell it and buy the new one.

IT CAN'T you have to buy the same price of the macbook.

If you macbook have a warranty.

  • Fantastic camera positioning, lighting and focus made for excellent visual demonstration. Precise, well spoken and a good pace for excellent verbal communication. Very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Thanks so much for the tutorial! Installed new memory and now my mac is running better than ever.

  • Thanks, We are going to upgrade a old macbook :) And this was just what i was looking for :D

Very good Video :) Thanks a lot :)

  • This video was super helpful! I've changed the memory in macbooks before, but I never seem to remember the force required to get the new ram back in :) Thanks so much!

  • Perfection!

  • There could not be a more perfect video for this task. Thank you.

  • Thank you for the great and easy to follow instructions. It saved me a $40.00 installation fee. I feel so computer savvy now.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do this video was very helpfull

  • Excellent! Thank you for the demonstration -- you da man!

  • @xDrEsXx Most Apple stores won't do it unless it's the newest laptop they have and even sometimes at that, they won't do it. You're better off going to a third party technician who can do it for you and is trained to do it.

  • How can I tell if I put it in correctly? Plz reply

  • Where can I buy more ram for late 2007 model? Im trying to upgrade to lion and need 2GB of ram. Im willing to go to 4GBs

  • @phatyo2 Should be getting mine today! Looked at reviews to make sure it would work in my Late 2007 White 13 MacBook.

    amazon.com/gp/product/B0011G49D6

  • @phatyo2

Go to a web site called Crucial uk, there you can scan your Mac and the web site will provide you with all the details you need to order new RAM specific to your computer. Mine is a late 2007 model and I've just ordered a 4gb kit so I can upgrade to Lion.

  • ok thats it i can't watch this, stop smacking you r damn lips, SHIT thats so annoying

  • thanks a lot. just upgraded from 512MB to 2GB..

It feels uncomforatable putting presure on the memory but it works :)

  • Thanks a lot !! You make my day today

  • Should a wristband for anti shock be used?

  • Just installed. Apple owes you royalties for this superb instructional, sir.

  • @xDrEsXx It depends on the individual store, most will, but they will charge you. :(

  • Is accidentally shocking the RAM pretty much the only way I can fuck this up?

  • This was very helpful, thanks for doing this. ram installed with no problems!

  • Gawd Bless Yew!

  • @4allmemorydotcom Hey, I want to have 8 GB of ram but my 2011 17" macbook pro already has 4 GB, can I just buy 4 GB more of ram or do I have to buy 8 GB of ram?

  • @GrandpaStarcraft hi Grandpa. Your Macbook pro will come with 2 (2gig RAM) You will need to buy 2(4gig RAM). Go to new egg. I just bought 2 (4gig RAM) for 67 bucks !!! Installed it in less than 5 minutes.

  • google "crucial site" use that website, 4allmemory rips you off. go onto the crucial site and run the scan, they will tell you what you need and give you cheaper prices than 4allmemory

  • Great guy and thank you very much for the help!

  • Great video. Thanks!

  • Wow, thanks a bunch! A simple chick like me figured it out...only because of this vid! I tripled my memory :)

  • thanks worked perfectly!

  • Thanks!

I wasn't able to seat mine properly at first; I was worried about applying too much pressure.

  • thanks dude

  • Thanks for the vid, helped a lot as couldn't find it on Apple page. Just to clarify, if you have a macbook like mine which had 1Gb memory, the two slots here will split the memory into 512Mb a piece. So you will lose one of those and gain whatever memory you are installing. If you are inserting a 2Gb upgrade, you will end up with 2.5Gb, not 3. Double check it of course by clicking the toolbar apple button 'about this mac'. Thanks again, running FCP so hope will help with effects rendering

  • Well first the pro is aluminum, has a sd card slot, backlit keyboard, and thiner. Also it will save you some work. It will probably cost the same but you get all of these other features.

  • Do i have to ground myself or wear an anti static wrist band when performing a RAM upgrade on a Mac?

  • This video helped a lot, thank you very much.

  • this work on my macbook 2009 right?

  • @RYDERkN no, 2009 macbooks are alot easier to install RAM in. Flip them over, undo the 10 screws holding the bottom plate on, the whole bottom of the laptop comes off and the RAM slots are just sitting on the motherboard.

  • Its a philips 00 screwdriver

  • Thank you so much for this video! You made it ridiculously easy...I just doubled my memory!!

  • where did u buy ur memory card? how much did it cost?

  • what brand of memory could i use to upgrade my old macbook 1.1 does any brand of memory works? as long as DDR2?

  • Great Video!! Thanks

  • OMFG, A COIN. I NEVER THOUGH ABOUT IT, SERIOUSILY

  • @Thefallencrazy1 are you retarded?

  • Worked without a hitch. Thanks man!

  • Thanks for the help man. After watching this I got my memory in no problem.

  • hey i want to upgrade my HDD so how i know what its the right HDD for my macbook??

  • Thank you so much!

  • Mine has a black screen and the sleep light flashes?

  • @jonoc5 me too, are you using PNY, I was

  • this works with black macbook right?

  • I've got a Model Name: MacBook : Model Identifier: MacBook4,1: Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.4 GHz. I want to upgrade to 4 gb. Can someone please point me in the right direction of what to buy? I am a novice so be kind.

    I've heard Crucial is good?

  • Comment removed

  • @XBrianWhateverX Crucial is good, go to their website and they have a downloadable scanner. Download it, run it, it'll recommend upgrades specifically for your computer.

  • You cannot afford Macbook Air? Check out offer at macbook7 . com Go and get yours

  • Thank you for saving me some money.

  • Very good video

  • new to Macs. Thanx for the simple How-To!

  • How many slots does the macbook have? and if it has multiple If i have 2 1gig cards will the pc become 2 gig macbook? or will i have to get a 2 gig card ?

  • @dalexispe 2 1GB cards, the same as this one. The current MacBooks are unibody though, and so the RAM installation is slightly different.

  • Wow! Thank you so much for posting this! The Apple genius bar guy told me how but there is no substitute for seeing it done. I am not a "techie" but decided to upgrade from tiger to snow leopard and found out my 1gb wouldn't be that great so I need 2gb. Now I feel confident I can do it. Thanks again!

  • @Guitarrosaurusrex well the macbooks have samsung RAM but i would recomend staying with the samsung brand just cuzz you know that its gonna work and btw the samsung RAM is pretty good but i would guess that there are some other good brands out there

  • i just did this a few hours ago... you really gotta make sure you pop those rams in there i took me like 45 mins.. if you dont do it right then when you power up your mac it will have a black screen and make beeping noises.. but since i upgraded my ram my macbook is running like a beast and now i can watch HD vids without the videos skipping =)

  • thanks u for this informative video I'm about to install the 2 GB ram now!

  • @ 2:53.... That's what she said!

  • right to it.

    thanks

  • Awesome tutorial! If you'd really like to make it perfect, you could add "(2nd gen)" to the title. Or whatever gen that MB is.

  • Thanks. Chatty, informative, not too fast! I just installed 2GB in the first slot to bump up to 2.5GB total. Much faster booting of Microsoft Office 2008 (for Mac) apps and virtualisation (VirtualBox). Keep up the good work!

  • Crucial FTW

  • Thanks, I hadnt pushed it in hard enough and after several tries was about to buy a new Mac.

  • Take your chance and win macbook air. Check out macbook7 . c0m!

  • THESE SCREWS ARE HORRIBLE!!!!

  • wait i'm confused.. so.. you take a coin, and then what? turn it which way??

  • @armtheempire LOL, dude you just turn it like a lock! there's a little icon that shows a lock and an unlocked lock. then the battery will be able to be removed!

  • once this is done do you just power it up and it woks fine or doe you have to do a set up on the computer?

  • does anyone know how to make a extrastorage device into ram?thx

  • does any one know how to make extrastorage devices into ram?thx.

  • By memory you mean ram, right?

  • I did this with my macbook pro, and the computer won't turn on. I get a white flashing light at the front of the computer

  • Awesome dude!

  • Great vid man now I can double my ram without killig my laptop.

  • Does anyone now if I can put a 2Gb 800 MHz ddr2 in my macbook? please answer!

  • thanks you saved my computer ...

  • Were could i buy a ram for this MacBook?

2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

    1 Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

  • What do you do with the old memory cards? Will you lose the information once the new one is inserted, and do you have to replace both sides of memory cards?

Looking forward to a response. Thanks

  • i really grateful to you for this, i just got a macbook form my friend and we thought its was broken but the RAM wasnt in all the way haha thanks alot!

  • I have a question, and any answer would be greatly appreciated :)

I want to upgrade my MacBook to 4 GB of RAM, and I want to do it myself. But I've heard that if you don't "ground" yourself before doing it, there's a chance you can shock the RAM and render it useless. So my question is: What is the best way to "ground" yourself?

  • its very difficult to make a shotrcut to your machine unless you build up static electricity (from wearing wool and rolling on your carpets), but you can also, buy an anti-static wrist if you want more security

  • @MajorTechFan

to ground themselves, IT techs either use a wristband attached to a cord and clip which is attached to the computer, or antistatic gloves, or are just careful enough to touch a piece of the metal on the computer they are working on before handling the ram or other innards. If you live in a dry climate static shocks are likely, if you live in a humid climate you will probably never have to worry about it.

  • @MajorTechFan simplest way is to buy an Antistatic wrist strap

  • @MajorTechFan what does "ground" yourself mean? on the apple site it says to touch something metal to get rid of static electricity or something weird :S

  • Thanks for the video, Just upgraded my Macbook to 4gig ram, and am typing this message on it. Your video was extremely helpful.

    Now to jailbreak my iphone

  • what ram should I buy for my macbook? it's the new model, and how much can I upgrade it?

  • thanks for posting this video... I just swapped out my old 512mb (x2) rams to a pair of sweet 2gig ones. My mackbook now runs like a charm. Thanks again.

  • thanks for the sweet video. now i can do it myself.

  • Does it matter what the name of the memory stick is called ? like if it says PC will it still work on a macbook ?

  • @Kikiixoxoxo im in the same boat. SOMEONE please answer this!

  • hey i have the exact same mac that you have, is there any way i can add more than just 2 memory cards into my mac? if there isnt, how am i supposed to add more memory into it?

  • @eragon3196 get 2 2gigs

  • Nice video Dude

  • i have a macbook with 2 gig, is it going to be 1x2gb or 2x1gb of ram installed?

  • @Chazyorkshire 2x1gb

  • Sorry but I stopped watching midway, I couldn't stand the swallowing noises.

  • @nubchaidub Lol! it happens. Even to news people.

  • Thanks for the walk-through. I actually found it easier than you depict -- my old RAM popped out easily and the new RAM seated properly without too much effort. The entire job took less than five minutes, including reassembly! The short screwdriver will be a problem for some people, but I had one handy.

  • can i put 4 gbs of ram into a 2.1 ghz intel core 2 duo on a 2007 white macbook? PLEASE HELP!!

  • No. The max memory that the chipset can support is 3GB. You can put 4GB put only 3GB will be used. Better to use 1x2GB and 1x1GB sticks.

  • I wish I could find a screwdriver that small. I have the correct size philips but the handle is too long!

  • Comment removed

  • is it possible say you have 1gb of ram in your macbook and you buy an additional 2gb, is it possible to keep your old RAM (1gb) and just add the 2gb to it totaling to 3gb?

  • yes , but you woint see the slight performance increase you would see if you installed matched pairs...and to be honest if you go to crucial its for cheaps in the USA I dunno if your there but EU area is about 70UK £

guaranteed to work just google ; Crucial nd you'll find em in your area

    peace

  • Thank you so much! I was starting to rethink my decision to install my own ram upgrade before watching this video, and now I'm glad that I did.

  • what kind of ram dose macbook use and how much could it go up to

    i have the MacBook4,1

    help

  • go the crucial site enter your model number the site will tell you which ram you need .

    sorted :)

  • thank you

  • no worries m8, did ou get fixed up ?

oh if you need any mac info, try a site called everymac ..they list ..you guessed it everymac lol

good site tho with accurate info stats etc for all macs.

    best

    ~m

  • thanks for all the help but i have one more question can i only have one stick of ram installed at a time or two different types at once with different capacity well I don't think so but just wanted to ask before trying any thing stupid but thanks anyway : )

  • no worries, your macbook will take ddr2 RAM ye , so get some stick it in an stop fussin about with it :) matched pairs are best , so they say, a slight gain in speeds ..but in reality prolly not noticeable

tbh , the best upgrade is prolly putting a bigger HD inside ( WD scorpio blue 320Gb works well) and you get to keep the HD from inside the MB then go get a 6£ 2" SATA case and bingo, nice free external

I wouldnt bother messing now, if you want RAM get ont crucial and get some in .

    t

  • @djmisplacedmarblesTV Their recommendations kinda suck.

  • thanks, this will help out a lot when my ram get delivered.

  • nice and simple... and thanx for saving me a lot of guessing and aggravation because without the video it would of cost me a lot of time and aggration and maybe worse.

  • great post, straight up howto without all the fluffing around. cheers

  • If a have a 13" macbook (v 10.5.8) with 1GB, is it better to upgrade to 4GB in one go, or just 2GB?

Also - the type of memory I need to buy - is it specifically 1GB RAM DDR2 667 or just any memory that says that is for a macbook?

  • @cmodenessy search the memory type of ur laptop on the apple website and 4gb would make it much faster

  • I need more room to install things such as Logic Pro and Final Cut pro, Do i need to buy a bigger memory or a bigger Hard Drive?

    Thank you

  • If you're running out of permanent memory, then you're looking for a new SSD or HDD. The memory in this video is Random Access memory (RAM). So for a bigger hard drive you'll have to reinstall your OS after you stick it in.

  • You have to buy a bigger hard drive, the memory is used only when you run an application. Sometimes apps like videogames need a bigger RAM because they use a lot of space and wouldn't leave some space for the other basic applications like Finder or other.

  • Thanks! :)

  • Hi, do you know what size the philips screw is? If you can let me know asap that would be great x

  • Thank you for this easy to follow video. I was able to install my new memory in my MacBook and saved $30.00 which is what the Apple Store charges to do it!

Let me know if you come up with a video on how to install a memory upgrade in our brains!

  • i know how to do this on a pc but not a mac, how do you partition your memory so you can add more or less of it to your graphics? i have plenty of memory but i want to make more of it go towards my graphics. thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this video.

I hope to fix and upgrade Macintosh computers.

    Be an IT person.

    Thanks. :)

  • question, if i play games on this.. will this RAM upgrade increase my framerate?

  • cheers... just right!

  • were cn i get memory cheap? i only have 7 gb left and i need more because of my editing and i need more were can i get some?

  • I got a 160 Gb hard drive at Best Buy for about 100 bucks. You need a Hard Drive not ram.

  • How about electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection procedures??? Very good video EXCEPT very risky without proper grounding, using a low cost wrist strap, and handling the memory sticks correctly.

  • How do you add more memory to what you already have?

  • good vid: short and clean

  • Comment removed

  • very good video thank you very much.

this is probably a stupid question but, will this effect any programs or delete anything from my macbook?

  • Thank you for watching. All data is stored on the hard drive so this upgrade would not effect any programs or delete anything from your machine.

  • does this void ur apple care?

  • No upgrading the hard drive or memory would not void you warranty. Apple will not repair or replace the new memory but will still repair the notebook under warranty.

  • Thanks so much! Your instruction was flawless and, I did it. A great help....

  • i have a macbook black business edition can i this procedure in my mac..? tnx.

  • perfect. Thank you!

  • good video, easily explained

  • thank you so much for making this video!

    it helped me so much

  • Thanks!

  • ¿Y need to change 2 memorys? ¿can i change only one of them?

  • You may install just one upgrade. However this model gets a performance increase from having memory installed in pairs, this is known as dual channel mode.

  • yeah

  • Thank you so much for this video!! It was so helpful, although I had to go out and buy a set of precision screw drivers. You made it so simple and easy!

  • No, mac have ben very cunning here and ensured that u must change both. For example if ur mac has 1gb the slots have 500 each so if u want to upgrade to 2gb you have to replace both slots with 1gb

  • @dawnmarie1950 Oh my god, thank you, i was going to purchase some ram but i had no idea about this little loop hole, i almost wasted 50 bucks, thank you so much!

  • Wonderful! Thank you!

  • Very good video.. thanks a lot..

  • can someone give me ideas for new ram chip for this macbook please

  • You need DDR2 PC2-5300 SODIMM. What the video maker forgot to mention which is really really important is that you must touch something metal before touching the RAM as the static can demagnetize the RAM making it useless. Buy it at amazon and read reviews to see if someone has used it in their macbook as some are better than others. Hope this helps

  • Very instructive! Thank you.

  • Sure needed the power push on the new memory, best video by far, screws need just the right size phillips. Mixed crucial and apple 2gb and they work just fine.

  • very good!!!

  • Hey does anyone know where i can buy RAM upgrade can I buy it at best buy or future shop??? i need 4G of RAM for school...and also will upgrading the RAM void any warranty on the laptop??

  • Hello, we sell RAM upgrades on our website. Our prices are much more affordable than brick and mortar stores and we have a lifetime replacement warranty. Upgrading RAM should not void a warranty on a user accessable memory socket. Some laptops have an expansion slot under the keyboard. Sometimes these are not covered. You also want to find out what OS you have. If it's 32 bit, you will have issues recognizing all 4GB. Hope this helps.

  • your video is much better than the support on the apple site. thanks a lot.

  • ur video helped me out alot if it wasnt for the video i would have tried to figure it out myself and would have probably messed up my mac book thanks alot

  • I just installed memory for the first time and I couldn't have done it without your video. I used a screwdriver from an eyeglass kit. Thanks so much!

  • this actually fixed my computer. i changed the HD, and i wondered what the RAM things were, so i played with it, and thought I put it back correctly. so now the macbook doesn't start up, and i thought it was dead. so then i bought an iMac, and now i have 2 macs

  • Excellent video, very clear. I think I should be able to do this with no problem.

  • thanks man this is really help.

  • Andrew, thanks for this. Just replaced RAM successfully after watching your video. FYI, the correct screwdriver is a T15. :)
