  • You forgot to mention the Apprentice - if Alan Sugar spends even 1% of his time talking to people like he does in that show he'd have gone out of business years ago.

  • @ozwick14 I agree. I don't think being up front is an excuse for one's rudeness. You can be upfront without being rude but too often people use it to justify their rudeness.

  • more glue than pot is a heavy situation man

  • @Mangina9000 It has grown and developed since those days and is an amazing thing. Still, don't let them suck you in - we can still be nice.

  • Well said. There is a difference between being upfront and being rude.

  • @3xsweetiepiex3 upfront is how americans describe being rude in an atempt to justify it

  • but i like come dine with me :(

  • Weren't they similes? Just saying. Love you David! xxx

  • The fact that those two top comments are together is hilarious :L.

  • Right at the beginning I just lost it when he said "I Humbly Submit" :-D

I honestly believe that Mr. Mitchell is anything but humble when to comes to ranting the bollocks of anything...

  • this was poetry.

  • He needs to make one about Reality TV.

  • Very good. The shows he was talking about are utter trash.

  • He says things we just wish dream of saying.

  • Lets clone David Mitchell and bring him here to America. We need his way of thinking in so many aspects of life. Oh and Peep Show Rules. Doby was smoking HOTTTT.

  • come dine with me...

  • @JDLupus lol. Screw you then hippy! ;0)

  • I would write something to commend David Mitchell's monologue, but it would comparatively be utterly forgertable to anything this man would otherwise say. Perhaps I'll just resign myself to writing: 'I hope Jerry Seinfeld is watching this'.

  • I like David Mitchell very much, but if I were over the table from him I'd argue that he's participated in the weakening of social boundaries. Comedies like Peep Show (which I love) profit from shock humor which is the same finite resource... every time you make a scene with casual reference to rape / paedophilia etc. you consume some of the shocked response and before you know it everyone's using these terms without it registering... and the previous generation despairs!

  • @M1st3rB3nn to be fair, David Mitchell didn't write Peep Show, he just starred in it.

  • @M1st3rB3nn

That is a good point, but I think that there is a bit of difference between fictitious rudeness and 'reality' rudeness. I'm not denying the influence of fiction on the common man, but I am stating that it theoretically does not have the same type of ethical responsibility with what it shows its viewers as 'Reality television' does.

  • seth mcfarline should watch this

  • @1clackie I'm pretty sure there is absolutely nothing I would love more than to see Seth MacFarlane and David Mitchell get into a heated discussion.

  • oh my God, the last line was just the utterly fantastic cherry on that speech. Never has a cherry been so brilliant and tasty. In this comment, the cherry is the phrase "piss off"

  • This is an incredibly intelligent argument, and yet charming and funny at the same time. I tip my hat to you Mr Mitchell

  • This sounds like most American reality shows.

  • Fuck off, Dell

  • Oh pipe down you plastic faced bitch.

  • He makes a point, kids and teens are probably throwing conventions like good manners out the window because TV says they can, don't want to look like Mary Whitehouse incarnate, but TV is partly to blame for the "Rising of the Chav".

  • @aaron9099

Ooh, that's a good one. David Mitchell should "effect of plastic TV on still developing minds".

  • I just watched about twenty of these and it only just occurred to me that he is wearing the same outfit in all of them!

  • @gunterdak Sometimes his pants change colour.

    ...so I've heard...

  • yeah david dragons den people are cunts

  • i think ann robinson can be quite sharp, really.

  • I FREAKIN LOVE DAVID MITCHELL!!!

  • Spot on as usual. I'd like to add that thereis too much rudeness between YouTube commenters. Let's all be nice to each other.

  • @ssummers11

    Here, here!

  • @ssummers11 A smile a day keeps the doctor away, and it's free!

  • @ssummers11 I'd be tempted to jokingly retort but you just seem so gosh darn nice!

  • @ssummers11 Fuck Off

  • @ssummers11 I am rude on the internet because it has fallen to depths lower than I ever imagined it would in 1989, when your ISP would call you on the phone and talk to you about things you said on the internet.

  • @ssummers11 Fuck off.

  • I love this man.

  • if you do wish to see the plastic faced witch get a taste of her own medicine search anne robinson meets her match on here. they have to get her away from the bbc and it;s on the US version but it's a win nonetheless

  • i'm frosty knickers

  • Michael McIntyre on Dragons Den:

    "Are you out, Theo?"

"Yeas, I'm out, but I'm going to humility the bitch for 20 minutes first"

That is not how to run a business.

  • YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK, GOODBYE! ... and Simon Cowell. British people get bad raps.

  • @moonlightkisu Agreed. I wonder if that's why they're popular, with the British stereotype being rather reserved and well to do, I suppose a perpetually rude celebrity is something of a novelty. Or at least, was.

  • he has dragons' den down to a T

  • Please someone at the weakest link hire DM!

  • @JustAboutCrazy OMG that soooooo needs to happen!

  • 'and, like the rainforest...'

    This line ^^^

Would this not be a simile, as opposed to a metaphor? I may be wrong, as I can scarcely believe that David Mitchell could make such a common error, but.. He may have.. My religion is falling apart infront of me! My god is not infallible! >:O

  • adblock plus - haven't seen a youtube ad in months!

  • @TheBigEase I just saw one... yours

  • @Pimlka i am making a recommendation given the complaints about ads.. I appreciated someone else doing the same for me.

  • Its like rapping for middle class white people :) i love it

  • Brilliant!

  • I wonder: how does Mr. Mitchell feel about shows that feature horrible people being horribly rude to each other and the general public, such as Black's Books or Seinfeld? On the one hand, they feature absolutely detestable characters -- but on the other hand, the wit and put-downs are hilariously funny!

  • brave off him to slag off a show on the network he works for

  • @1angelheadedhipster he works for the BBC they arnt so touchy since they work different. The BBC gets money from anyone with a TV license so they don't really have to rely on viewer ratings and therefore arn't so touchy about what is said about their shows

  • 15 people can piss off.

  • I don't think David would agree with said advertisement satire.

    He's getting the money.

You aren't paying to watch this.

  • I'd love for David to go on the Weakest Link and rip Anne Robinson to pieces.

  • I don´t understand come dine with me, I watched 10 minutes of it and it sucked. How ever the basic concept of a group of people that have never met before hosting diners for etch-other and then saying how it was is a very good idea. If only the programs host would be funny and if the contestants would be nice and polite the show would be great... wait a sec I have seen a show like that. The Swedish version. Only one problem left then its in Swedish...

  • I really wish contestants on Weakest Link were allowed to stand up for themselves, that would be fucking brilliant.

  • woop, i was the 111,111th viewer

  • I don't think the rudeness is the main reason people watch Come Dine With Me. I think they enjoy seeing people hopelessly fail at cooking a simple meal, or completely overstretching themselves, or cooking something utterly ridiculous like Pig's Trotters with Champagne or Roast Squirrel, and then getting mercilessly mocked by Dave Lamb.

And has no one still realised the fundamental flaw in a competition where you get to mark your own competitors?

  • The best rejoinder to any Ann Robinson insult would be, 'At lest I have custody of my children.'.

  • On the downside, though, David, you've made me want to watch the shows you mentioned (other than TWL, of which I've seen quite enough already).

  • watch the mitchell and webb look's version of dragons den- it's hillarious :P

  • as if they're auditioning for the beano!!

  • as if they're auditioning for the beano!!

  • Absolutely right, dragons den is a load of mouldy old horse shit and people who watch it are fucking retards.

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • Fantastic!

  • Mozilla firefox + AdBlockplus kills all ads on youtube.

    Every single one.

  • @Lawlessuk

This isnt an add popup. Its a part of the video. Fast forwarding skips it.

  • @Janusha Ah ok. Whenever I see complaints about ads I always suggest Mozilla and AdBlockplus!

I never see ads, except for the sneaky ones they build into the vid!

  • Epic. In every video of his the 'like' bar is virtually green. Man of the People.

  • I love you David. That was brilliant.

  • Well said, David, well said.

  • If you don't like his videos then why the he'll did you click on it. If you watched it just to post hate comments then you should, as David Mitchell put it, piss off.

  • I would pay good money to watch someone tell Hag Robinson, "Oh pipe down, you plastic-faced witch."

  • @chehalia so why do you watch his videos?

  • glue pot both get ya high

  • Could the same metaphor not be stretched to the comedy industry "pushing boundaries"?

  • @NotSoDave nah, pushing boundaries is funny :D

  • @E101ification I didn't say it wasn't funny, just a similar situation.

  • ... in this metaphor, tea stands for Grace and Courtesy... ... as well it might...

  • oh the irony of that final piss off

  • Adverts? That's what the mute button's for.

  • i loved his closing statement about dragons den.

  • @frostyknickers Like you would know about intelligence . Look at your user name .

  • @AlexKeelan not saying frostyknickers isn't a tool, but a username is in no way an accurate marker of someone's intelligence

  • @frostyknickers

How do you pretend to be funny? Do you actually believe that he has fooled people into believing he is funny when he is not?

Can you pretend to be funny for me so i can see what such a thing would look like?

  • Excellent. Sarcasm, dissent and criticism are Britain's contribution to the civilised world. Dissent leads to creativity and innovation, that then leads to progress

  • this man is amazing

  • BULLDOG BUY IT hi i'm david mitchell

  • i love come dine with me though

  • Fucking tedious

  • TV rudeness. What a joke. If there is an urgent problem to be tackled with the media today, then it's pretty much how it is systematically overrepresenting white women (and particularly blond women) at the expense of other types of female beauty. It's nothing short of institutionalized racism.

This is the year 2011, not the year 1931. I want to finally see more diversity in female beauty in my media. I'm a white man, btw.

  • @GluttonForSex i agree with you, and honestly I blame Hitler. without the slaughter of the jews, maybe they wouldnt feel the need to be so racist, as if its allowed by some reparation aggreement. P.S. the reason i bring up the Jews, is that they own the media. lol

  • Why does the bulldog advert have to be sooo loud!

  • you can see my invention...search "eco urinal"

  • I was on the dragon's den and CBC was too cheap to pay for my overnight stay in Toronto. From my pitch that lasted 10 minutes, they played about 30 seconds on air ...and ridiculed my invention.."ECO URINAL".,,,even mis-quoting the real name ....calling it unisex urinal. While taping,I was ridiculed by all five dragons who by the way are too ALL too old and set in their ways to KEEP AN OPEN MIND. As a journeyman plumber, the dragons appeared to know a lot more about actual plumbing me. Shame on you!

  • love David, of course, --- but the intro blurb is 'orrible !!

  • Couldn't agree more, David. You are the next Stephen Fry.

  • "Sooner or later there's going to be more tea than pot, and then there will be no tea for anyone."

  • Id like to see david mitchell go on the weekest link and give this speech about rudeness.

  • LEGEND!!!

  • he is so damn right. love this man :)

  • @WillShakespeare2007 The difference between Mock the week and the two shows mentioned in the video, is that Mock the week is impersonal and designed for comedy effect, the whole basis of the show is guy down the pub mockery of news events.

I dare say this has been going on for hundreds of years amongst the general public, only on a less creative scale.

Shows like dragons den X factor.. etc, main selling point is the rudeness towards the weaker participants, dressed up in the guise of reality TV

  • Well put. In Canada civility has taken a dramatic downturn in the past 10+ years. The 500 lb gorilla living just below us has always been into recreational poop-throwing, and Free Trade has completely exposed us to the juggernaut's moral free fall. Lately it seems like the silverback has taken up crack - it's getting scary. Canadians have been thought of as friendly and polite, but only by comparison to our American cousins. A wonderful trip to Britain has caused me to question this conceit.

  • @greyareaRK1 >:/

You know, you really shouldn't take the judgment of the many as the representative of the whole. Looking for kindness and civility ANYWHERE is like digging through manure in search of diamonds, so long as you know for a fact that diamonds are there X3

  • I can't believe David Mitchell is slagging off Come Dine With Me...

Now I don't know what to think :'(

  • @TheHalftimelord hahaha too bad

  • "in this metaphor tea stands for grace and courtesy, as well it might"

    Love that line.

  • audition for the beano lol

  • @rayblack2004 "A new type of cheese? I would be crackers to invest!" hahaha, I loe it. I am aware that if this continues, then the full content of David's script will eventually be listed here. This, I can only see as a good thing: I'd love nothing more than to stumble upon this video after an innocent search for e.g. "plastic faced witches."

  • I will never buy a bulldog product. They insist on having the ads at twice the volume of the actual video.

  • I'd be crackers to invest. Epic.

  • haha I LOVE this guy!!

  • I know quite a few people these days who mistake straight forwardness for rudeness.... they're called c**nts

  • I hope everyone who complains about David Mitchell's alleged "rudeness" realizes that doing so openly and with such disdain is rudeness, as well. You're doing the very thing he is by ranting about whatever displeases you. It just so happens that David Mitchell is your current target and, in this video, Television rudeness was his. The only difference is that he is funny. Well, that's not true. There's another difference. Almost 400 people like him. Where are your fans?

  • Here's a rant of my own, which David might agree with: If you play an advert three times louder than the prevailing sound level, it just pisses everyone off and makes them less likely to buy the product.

  • @MrApolloTom

If I ever come across this stuff in a local shop I will have to fight the urge to smash the tubes...

  • @MrApolloTom I Agree you've hit the nail on the head also in programmes themselves the talking is at one volume level then any music is much much louder really annoying sort the sound leveling !

  • @MrApolloTom lol but if he says that then he wont make any money out of sponsors

  • @MrApolloTom On the other hand, I find it puzzling that we haven't managed somehow to find a way to set a computer's (or indeed a stereo's) volume level to some constant value. I'm sure there's a logical technical explanation for it, but I don't get it.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrApolloTom Hell yeah. But it buys David his Pimms on a Sunday afternoon.

  • i like Dragon's Den but he's kind of right about it lol

  • He made a false analogy: he should have said, "No napkin, even one made of reused shiny toilet paper, crunched instead of folded, and previously used to daub off last night's sleep-spittle, could ever be as vulgar as saying so"

  • @wratched You're impying that monogrammed 'serviettes' in sterling silver napkin rings aren't vulgar. If this is true, seriously re-evaluate your sense of taste.

  • Here here. Mitchell for PM!

  • On the plus side, the people mentioned in this clip are not likeable in the slightest, so it may have the opposite effect and make people even more polite and courteous, in a desperate attempt to "not end up like that twat on the telly".

Its when the cool, sexy people start. THEN we should start to worry.

  • "i'll add with a graceful and courteous piss off!"

David Mitchell, the only guy who could pull off a rant like that XD

  • jesus christ can they lower the advert down

  • @peteclarke17 This! please! There's nothing more annoying than having a loud advert before an interesting, but relatively low volume video straight after it.

  • @peteclarke17 Just get adblock

  • @Almorio They are moaning about the soap box advert not a youtube advert.

  • COME DINE WITH ME!!!!! lol love that show

  • Yes! This is a huge problem in the states, as well. Trying to sell being a complete asshole as "reality". Real people don't act like that.

  • @VIABellum : ofcourse they do...your in the states =P

  • Unfortunately David is quite wrong about business people not being rude to each other. Not all, but many people in a position of power enjoy being assholes. Either because that's really why the want to be in power, or because they actually delude themselves into thinking that was "efficient". Working for small engineering outfits it's amazing how many assholes you encounter in business meetings...

  • @stefanmuc2k I second that notion...I've worked for a couple of seminars and I can safely say that a lot of businessmen are a bunch of pig-eyed sack of shit. On the other hand, I think his point was more about the fact that Dragon's Den, the show, isn't centered at all around what it's advertising, i.e. people trying to sell their ideas but is actually just gratuitous rudeness, and not even the funny kind.

  • love the way he says piss off at the very end. Genius.

  • But you are happy to go on the show "Mock the Week" which as the title suggests mocks everyone and everything, finding humour in such things as Richard Hammond's brain injury. I very much agree with you though that England has become all about being rude to everyone and about everything.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Er Richard Hammond isn't and never was brain damaged...

  • @brettseeney I said brain injury there is a difference. Can I ask you a question please. Why do you bother people when you have google and you can just look it up. Google Richard Hammond brain injury. He talkes at lengh about his brain injury not knowing his own wife, 2 years of depression, difficulty with spacial awareness etc etc. And anyway my point was Mitchell can hardly complain about TV rudeness and appear on Mock the Week a show built on rudeness.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Re: Mock the Week

Mock the Week is built satire, not rudeness. Anyone who's criticised (or should I say mocked?) on the show has given the panel and public some reason for doing so. I've never seen Mitchell be rude about anyone who doesn't deserve the rudeness.

  • @number1drummerman Satire? It is just taking the piss out of everyone and everything to get some cheep laughs. The reason they put "Mock" in the title is to explain away the fact that the format of the show is just call everyone a cunt and see if the audience laughs. But sure if you want to believe that everyone in the world "deserves it" then fine. That seems to be the attitude in general on the UK, fuck everyone else but they deserve it.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Err, racism? You cant categorize a whole country. I think fuck you mate, you deserve it.

  • @Gothicgizzmo You can't be racist to a nationality and the fact you are such a rude person has just proved my point - thanks for that. You are a fine example of what I am talking about.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Me a rude person? Says the one who has just said that is the general attitude in the UK, you need to grow up. Oh, no problem, I will keep on being rude if you want, doesn't prove anything. I can be as rude as I want, it doesn't speak for the whole of the country. And where are you from? I will be rude again, fuck you. How old are you? 10?

  • @Gothicgizzmo So you are proving the people of the UK are not rude by constantly swearing like a drunken football hooligan? You are a fine example of the English yob mentality. Where am I from? England and I have visited every country in Europe and lived for a year in the US. That is how I can compare and England is more rude and statistically more violent than any other European nation - look it up.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Haha, Im a girl for starters. And I think you need to get a life and grow up you little child.

  • @Gothicgizzmo Did I say you were a man? The fact you are a women and are so aggressive, foul mouthed and rude simply applifies my point. "I need to get a life" as you do not know anything whatsoever about me I am interested what you are basing this observation on? Er...nothing just a random cliche insult that I am sure you throw at everyone.

  • @Gothicgizzmo

I agree with Shakespeare and bokonom, actually.

    They both have valid points.

However, by leaving this comment of yours you've proved yourself to have an incredibly low mental/emotional age.

So, and I quote, 'I think you need to grow up and get a life you little child'.

How does that sound coming from a 14-year-old?

  • @WillShakespeare2007 You shouldn't really take statistics into account when stating an apparent fact for an entire nation.. Every country has its fair share of rude people these days and it's becoming more common, humans are just pathetic when it comes to socialising.

  • Great rant, very true.
