I saw him pecking on the tree outside and getting this and that and bread, he hangs w/the bluejays and other birds and feeds himself, is territorial, and flys away when any animal or human approaches other than a bird. The 3 cockatiels and the Quaker parrot helped w/ making 'bird' sounds around him and they all slept at the same time at night. Twiggy went to sleep immediately right after he was fed then would wake up later and tell me it was feeding time again.
Yes, it is best to find a wildlife rehabber, but in my case I didn't find one over the holidays this Xmas from Thurs22-Sun25 2011 and was stuck caring for this baby woodpecker and it cost me a pretty penty and time and energy. The bird slept plenty, I sure didn't. I would only sleep when it went to sleep and was finished feeding its meal and had to do so around the clock. It takes way more time and concentration than w/human babies. Phew! The release was a success & he's bigger now.
Actually birds have poor smell, it's a myth that if you touch a bird it will leave the young, if there is something wrong with the bird then yes she'll leave it. otherwise if you put it back in the nest she will most likely come back and care for it.
i am happy u have helped it but u shouldnt have held it with out gloves or the mother will ABAND it because some smell with the human to a bird i dont know but all i know do NOT TOUCH IT
I heard something fall outside my window and when I looked it was a baby bird, I was gonna leave it cuz I could hear the parents around it but after a few minutes I looked again and a cat was gonna eat it so I stuck it in a shoebox and stuffed it back up the tree, hopefully it doesnt fall again -.-
I don't know why the birds here don't build better nests. I have come home a few times and had baby bird on my porch or in my open garage. Every time so far Iencountered the parents first, with them trying to protect it. I still wonder, even with the parent birds there, if it is a chick that isn't yet able to fly, how can they save it? If I could, I would put it back in it's nest, without touching it, often hard to do though.
Hey everyone! Be sure to check out the video linked in the description. It offers advice on what to do if you found a baby bird and tells about what happened with our baby bird. Enjoy!
I just found a very similar baby bird just today. The nest was very near by. I was just going to crush it and put it out of it's misery rather than starve to death but I decided to put it in the nest and put it in a plant holder near a bush. Maybe the mom will come back but I think the chance of that is about .01%

Not going to call animal services. They're not going to mess with a robin.
Cont: The one I found looks a lot different from the one you found, so I don't think they're the same kind. But the one I found seems to move a lot more than yours, too, so I think it might be a bit older, too...Anyway, I hope yours and the one I found do ok =]
I just found a little baby bird earlier today. It was just hopping through the grass so I watched it for awhile, but then it hopped right onto my foot! Lol...it was cute. It was trying to fly, but couldn't, really, so I moved it just a few feet away to a tree where a bunch of birds that looked like the same kind are. Well, i just went back out to see if it was still around and it was, so I took it a little bit of this bird feed/seed stuff that my neighbor had. It pecked at it, so I hope it eats.
well thx 4 the help but they just died :C i think the reason why their mother wouldnt take them bak was bcause they were sick....... i still feel really bad but at least i tried right :/ well thx again!!
well we live near woods and thats were i found them and i kept them over night last night and 1 isnt doing well they r really small and ive been feeding them but he doesnt even have the strength 2 squeak anymore do u have a # 4 a wildlife rehab??? and thx!!
i found 2 baby birds yesterday and i know where the nest is but i cant get 2 it the baby is only about 2-3 days old and i dont know wut 2 do either so if u find anything out about wut 2 do please tell me.
@KristinaS100 Hi! We actually ended up taking the baby to a wildlife rehab place that day. If the babies are still alive after a day then I'd say their mom is definitely coming back to feed them. If they're on the ground then I'd make a "nest" for them like I did for that one though make sure it's DRY grass, not freshly picked like I did. Or you can try paper towels & stack it to help support the birds. Then place it somewhere near by. But definitely call a local rehab place.
