  • I sang this song in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center. My favorite line of all time is "Homeland the country I love hold out your arms to me"

  • My Choral Group is singing this, we rock at it, and i love what the song means and what its made for. Epic epic epic :)

  • I love this song. i had to sing it for all region in Arkansas maybe 2 years ago. My friend and i still sing this song, and it works out perfectly because i'm an alto and she's sprano. :) Good job by the way.

  • Wow! The harmony between the altos and the sopranos were outstanding. And the pianist? How come we don't see more of her on youtube? That song is very difficult to play and she "worked" it. Awesome performance. Bravo! Thanks for sharing!

  • we are singing this song again in choir. we had sung it last year. i really like this song. my choir is all girls.

  • senior and shepherd mi high school

that was great just a tip

    more unified vowels

u didnt hear alto because the camera was in front of the sapranos and tennors we added a group of men to ours

  • This is such a beautiful song! It's a shame you don't have a better blend. You definitely could need more alto. I would not be able to hear it if I didn't know it since I'm singing alto on this song for an upcoming concert. Other than that, beautiful

  • does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this?

  • I hear a few distinct voices, I'd say work on the blend a bit.

But overall, you guys were pretty great. (:

  • i sang this in my chorus last year, Who wrote this song?

    I love it!

  • Homeland

  • Brilliant! Enough said!! Amen!

  • wow everybody made an opus how many are there???? i made Sop1!!!!!! thanks 4 uploading it helps a lot!!!

  • my friends made OPUS with this song!! haha 7th and 8th grade

  • I MADE OPUS TOO! :) :) :^)

  • I made OPUS, like trying out with this song! :):):)

  • we sing it better :)

  • Dear God, this is blasphamy. This is an English anthem, not a tune to be pissed about with:-

I heard my country calling, away across the sea,

Across the waste of waters she calls and calls to me.

Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,

And round her feet are lying the dying and the dead.

I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns,

I haste to thee my mother, a son among thy sons.

  • Oh yeah, also we are singing it a capella, so it is slightly more difficult.

  • Yeah, we are too. God, we had to record it and send it in to the judges, so we all freaked out and didn't do nearly as well as we thought we would. My other classmates that I tried out for it with said that I did really well except for holding out lower notes, so hopefully I still have a chance!(:

  • you are singing Homeland A'Cappella? Why?

  • When you try out for OPUS, you sing one piece with accompaniment, and one a capella. They chose this one for a capella. We sent in the tapes a couple weeks ago. Should find out how we did by the third week of October. : )

  • I just cannot picture singing Homeland A'Cappella. We are doing it at my school and this is the second time I have performed it. Both times I have had Alto one (except I get the high c at the end :D) and we have had an accompaniment. We did a song called Hostias- 'tis a requiem. I could see that performed a' cappella. But not Homeland. hmm.. I hope it turns out for the best for you guys.

  • I'm singing this for OPUS tryouts, too. I sing the Alto 1 part. Finished taping today. : )

  • Heyy i'm doing this for OPUS too!!! Did you make it? I did! I'm also an Alto 1

  • I am singing part of this song for a tryout for Opus Honor Choir.

The section I have to sing is from 1:42 to 2:40 so it's not terribly hard, but I'm in 8th grade.(: It's a lot of fun!

  • Im singing alto 2

  • I'm singing Alto 1. : )

  • Comment removed

  • I remember singing this song! (He he, last year) I loved hitting the high C at the end!!! I'm not allowed to sing so high in the house. ^.^"

  • Check out this beautiful version of Homeland:

"Homeland" - TMEA 2009 Texas All-State Choir, Symphonic Band & Orchestra

  • it sounds good :) although i would much rather prefer is the guys sang in this. its lacking that bassy tone to it. I just think its more powerful as a whole choir with SATB.

  • Lol i thought guys sang this song, my chorus sings this song were a high school group.

  • im in womans choir in 8th grade...i sang this

  • We are singing this at the pacific rim concert in Hawaii!

  • WHERE ARE THE MEN??

  • u can sing it without men. i've this song done with a middle and high school choir

  • its a womans choir...

  • the high c is wonderful by the way

  • beautiful!

  • We are doing this song with 600 people in Bloomington, IL. Jr high and High schools together!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. Our Texas All state, band, choir and orchestra performed this at our Texas Music Educators Association convention on Feb. 13, 2009 and it brought tears to my eyes - such a moving melody and haunting harmonies.

  • Awesome singing. But the piano woman looks funny... it seems as though she really, really hates the piano.

  • My high school varsity choir samg this at the annual convocation, but it was ssaattbb!

  • That is insane I did this for tour last year when MCC went to to Hawaii.

  • This is such a good performance of this song!!! I sang this same arrangement about 5 years ago and I absolutely love the alto part for this arrangement. Thank you for posting it!!!

  • my women's ensemble is singing this for our vetrans day program.

    its really cool!

  • It's too fast. Where are the guys? Lol. This song needs a bass section.

  • you all did very well! i love the high C at the end it was awesome! my choir did this 4 graduation 2 years ago but we were also bigger and a chorale! this song deffinitely has a powerful meaning and yall did it justice!!

  • Hey everyone!

I just wanted to say a little thing about the choir real quick and be off...

If it looks like we're a bit...unemotional, well, most of the girls you could see were either freshmen or sophomores. Not saying that that really explains it, but this was our 1st concert of the year, and for the younger ones, it was their 1st concert in front of so many people! We were pretty much concerned with getting the song right :P

But thank you all for the constructive criticism! We'll work at it!

  • Bravo, ladies!! I was happy to hear that you had a nice balance at the end instead of 20 sopranos hitting the high C. beautiful job!

  • Wow. Fantastic!

  • our school did better but you guys are really good....great!!!

  • So did ours but ours was a chorale so yea...but it's still very lovely!!

  • is there another to name to this song?

  • It's originally The Planets by Holst

  • i love this song, my choir has done it so many times, henry leck conducted once. i agree with some of the comments below, look more alive, i mean c'mon this song is about our home, where we grew up and live! i have to say watch your breath, i can hear almost all of you taking your breath which just makes you sing from your throat rather your diaphram

  • have you been to the Pacific Rim Children's Chorus Festival?

  • Yea, with the South Bay Children's Choir.

  • my choir is going on saturday

  • Oh wow! Congrats! Its tons of fun!

  • i've sung this song about 5 times in concert with my choir... you guys are pretty good.

  • yeah, uhh you sound five

  • great sound.

although the sopranos need to tone it down because I couldn't really hear the altos. And I agree with everyone else. You all look dead. Look alive ladies. And that final cord needs more alto one and two. Also you don't need to move your jaws so much, you're not chewing anything. Sopranos also needed to let some of those parts just float. Okay I'm done critiquing. I just sang this piece. We had a band play along with us. Total instruments: piano, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion.

  • good job to this choir !

the middles are getting buried by the sopranos though. same thing happens in my choir.

    haha.

  • I like it, We are singing this in my choir, the only thing is there are too many people who look like they dont care...haha

  • i Have been around and heard some amazing chiors, and dinamically yall are amazing. the song is beautiful and you all are very good singers. a bit of constructive crit. though, you look at bit dead. to be a truely amazing chior, you dont sing the music, you vocalize it and communicate the lyrics to the audience. think about what this song means and what it means to you. Then sing with tha in mind. oh, and a 2:40, you went a bit sharp, try not to push so much on the high notes just let them float

  • horrible quality

  • i no one person in that choir

    here name is Lana!

  • There's a few girls who look they'd really rather not be there.

  • The version of this song with tenors and basses is soo much better...

  • totally, it sends shivers down my spine ;)

  • Homeland, one of my favorite pieces ever... Thank you for posting this.

Now for my choir nerd to kick in. My fist suggestion to you is expression. This is a very emotional song. From the few people I see in this, I don't see much of it, though some are trying deffinately. Pour your souls in girls, because it makes all the difference in the world. Second, dynamics: a bit more contrasting would be lovely when it comes to the 'road has bends and turns' portion. Other than that, beautiful sound!
