Okay, I specifically asked my recruiter if there was swimming in Basic, and he said "Nah...that's just the Navy!". And now I'm watching this...thinking WTF?! I went in summer of 86. And here is my experience in a nut shell

TOO hot to train P/T much - 2-5 miles a week max of running and training indoors a lot with airconditioning! A lot of kids got sick from the a/c

TWO weeks of Reserve Drill Sergeants who had no control over us, when the regulars came back, they spent a lot of time retraining

I remember at least 3 pizza parties, and many trips to the store for candy

PART of the group went to a Sister Sledge concert

Very simply, the numbers and letters are the group that your BF is in. Ex. from Edgen123: First Battalion, 48th Infantry, Charlie Company. A group, within a group, within a group.

You could also look up Ft Leonard Wood's website if it makes you feel better. Usually have general pictures and such up...

When I did my testing with the Univ ROTC, they said unstrap your gear and just swim to the surface once you were down from the high dive. Shouldnt be to much of a problem, and we used a type of rubber gun to simulate weight etc and the belt we strapped it to just floated to the top and we pulled it in afterwards.

Other than that had a blast, and I can say it was and still is the defining experience of my life. For those who are about to go, welcome to the family, and make the most of it....
