  • Surprise, he scratched my armor! :D

  • I hate Roc-Badgers

  • @xnamkcor Rock Badgers.

  • @DeceasedCrab I hear they're non-kosher, but pretty darn smart.

  • Rock monsters eat birds, and the birds eat rock badger.

  • Well, we're up to Ys 7 now, and Adol still hasn't received that knife in the back yet. When it comes though, it will likely be Terra's fault somehow. And she'll whine about Adol being to blame for allowing the knife to stab into him.

  • Sure is rock-badgers in here.

  • Everyone was at the moutains,

    Everyone had matching armour!

The ADOL look under thr snow,

And there he found A ROCK!

    But it wasnt a rock,

IT WAS A ROCK BADGER! XD

  • those things in the mountain are obviously surprise fish.

  • I totally wasn't paying attention and thought you said "Lycan" instead of "Lichen".

  • ECOSYSTEM

  • Hey all of you are invited to shut up about the whole wording that I was looking for. I seriously don't care anymore and it's been suggested a million times in other comments already.

Do you guys not know how to read?

  • @DeceasedCrab apparently no

  • Most RPGs would be a thousand times better if the protagonist offered smartass replies to every stupid thing the other characters did or said.

It would have made StarTropics 2 better, anyway.

  • God yes. This is why the Baldur's Gate games were so good.

  • Hah. Mountain Mania. Where have I heard a similar phrase before?

  • Lord McGaya?

  • another game that sounds like it features the "metroid" item aquirement music is Magic Sword.

  • 9:24 It's Keela from Legacy of the Wizard!

  • I like how the boss's projectiles disappear slowly too when you defeat them.

  • The harpy boss at 6:25 reminds me of Tzenker from Seiken Densetsu 3. Just having a "High Tension Wire" moment...

  • I just want to go on record that more games NEED to feature boss battles while on top of some sort of dragon-like creature.

  • Odin Sphere. And don't tell me you haven't played that one, JS.

  • Okay I won't. What I will tell you that my last non-handheld console I have owned is an SNES.

  • You have no excuse for not owning a PS2 at this point. None.

  • I do! It's called I don't really like how non-Nintendo systems have completely overrated some games and completely ignored other genres.

  • That's... ignorant. Painfully ignorant. Especially considering that the PS2 has one of the best game libraries out there, some of the best action and RPG games, and something for everybody.

The Wii is an excellent example of a system with overrated games and a library completely lacking in some generes. Your argument is completely shattered.

  • @DeceasedCrab ... It's the only system we have. At least we have Brawl....

    Right...?

    (Cries self to sleep)

  • "Biosphere" is the closest term I can come up with.

  • Well, they could be Rock Lobsters XD

  • damn blizzards

  • I always liked lets play civilization. these are all interesting too watch. good job.

  • Why don't more games store things like gold in bignums?

  • Ecology

  • A Salt Staff of great power?

Dip it into mercury to make a White Staff of super strength.

  • rock badger says, "eat your chunky soup!"

  • I'm likin' that lichen joke.

  • What's the worst that could happen?

  • Mountain Mania? Hope you brought your hammer.

A free sword plus free heals does make one a good friend indeed.

Knife in the back? Et tu, Brute?

Wait. They got by with leaving the Harpy totally topless in this game, but Square had to add extra clothes to scantily clad (yet still covered) Espers and foes in "FFIII"?

"... Bob holding a stapler..." - This reminds me of Bob getting brutally killed in Phantasmagoria 2.

  • What's the worst that could happen?

  • I love your good use of vocabulary in your videos. I actually used the word "facetious" today at school and got strange looks and a little eye rolling. Probably because "like" has basically become a substitute for "and."

  • @ 3:26

I believe the term you are looking for to describe their place in their environment is referred to as "ecology"

  • how bout those blizzards? WHAT BLIZZARDS? We got no Snow up in the Garden State

  • Garden State more like the trash state for trash hahahahahah

No seriously, New Jersey Territory will never achieve statehood until you do something about that "Jersey Shore" show.

  • hmm.... eldam moutains.. sounds spanish...

  • your videos go great with digestive crackers and milk, just to let you know

  • What was your favorite LP DC?

  • "Here's a note, I wrote." Beautiful.

  • Story time? But that's what time it is when we sit around the campfire with DC and hear his 'Nam war stories!

  • Why Flash? Why not Light?

  • Infodump: EDGAR Bring note to mountain hermit Climb the Eldam Range! Monster niche questioned Nice house, mister hermit guy. Thanks for the sword, man. Hopping mad monsters Apex boss brought crashing down Do you know my name? Judgement! Spin spin spin! Snow parts; found hidden dragon! Dark statue obtained.
  • "Here's the Morphball!

    You can curl down!

    Are you happy now?"

  • Wait, how did they not only beat us up the mountain, but also build a cabin! And how did EDGAR make it up, he said his legs aren't good for mountains! He's just a jerk, new sword or not.

...was that a male harpie? This game is wierd.

  • Edgar and the Hermit are not the same person.

  • I wonder if anyone remembers that 4chan fad that had Dogi bursting through all sorts of pictures, and saying "OH YEAH!" like the Kool-Aid man.

  • Just don't tell the police about the hidyhole you found in the storage room and everything will be alright.

  • i love how "judgment" is misspelled

  • Edgar would get sick of life and become Mountain Maniac!

  • I hereby rename this mountain Margaritaville.

DC has finally found his lost staff of salt.

Also, he remains Buffet-ed by rock badgers.

  • Hopping lobsters?

In jail, DC will be found hanging from his bedsheets. the not he leaves behind only says:

    "FUCK YOU Ys..."

  • Well, even with max level and the best armor so far, you're still taking considerable damage!

  • I could use a staff like that. It would make shoveling 36 inches of snow a hell of a lot easier.

Oh, and YouTube ratings are really stupid. Mostly because the majority of the ones you get are heavily biased, so they're not really a good measure of the user's 'actual' video quality, but their fanbase.

That's how I see it at least.

  • Exactly!

  • @DeceasedCrab

    HUZZAH!

  • What kind of system would you have, or would you just have no system at all? I'd go with the latter since I never look at video ratings that much, anyways. I just use them for supporting my shows, just like Bladedlighting said. I'm such a tool.

  • Good question. I have no idea. But I do know that numerical ratings simply don't work. I'd be happier with a "Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down" sort of thing, and even then I'd probably just disable that too.

  • The ratings are useful when browsing videos of most categories, but for LPs, I agree that they're useless. Good point by Bladedlightning there.

  • 3:14 I believe the word you were looking for--before you settled on the phrase "food chain"--was "ecosystem".

7:35 They probably have trouble because they don't use enough ring. Ring fixes everything! Unless said ring is Heart, in which case, ring fixes nothing.

  • RANMA, i think it was actually "ecology", as in, how it behaved in correspondance to the other creatures. either way, they both had ECO in them.

  • I wonder if the game has swords that you could throw. Because that would be very useful right now.

  • It looks like there's still two more slots for rings. Maybe (wishful thinking) one of them shoots projectiles? MAYBE?!

    ...Please?

  • The rock badgers have been taking lessons from surprise fish, however they don't seem to surprise as well.

  • Odd, I sing something when I get a power-up in Metroid, but when I do it, it is more like: Power Bomb aqcuired man thats pretty awe-awesome.

Not sure why, but I did that for Metroid Prime 1-3.

  • Could they be kangaroo rats?

  • Finally! Someone who can pronounce lichen right!

  • I'd go deliver this note except my leg is broken! *breaks leg to validate excuse* That's how I picture conversations with Edgar.

  • "He's hoppy to see me"? Really, DC? Really?

...Okay, fine. I was thinking nearly the same thing. XD

  • Issue 21, first one I ever had. I read that thing to death. I re-ordered a fresh copy of it years later.

  • You've got max xp, why attack monsters anymore?

  • Because they need to die.

  • Oh wow DC, I didn't suspect you would know what Niche meant, they teach in skull yes, but I didn't suspect anyone to remember it!

  • Oh, hi Dogi.

  • You Know D.C. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, IF YOU PAYED ATTENTION IN MONSTER BIOLOGY 101 YOU WOULD LEARN THAT THE ROCK BADGERS ARE GENTLE AND MAGNIFICENT CREATURES!

After you get past the whole jumping hoobla.

The Dragons on the other hand, those monsters are just asking to become extinct.

  • Paid. And more importantly, I'd care a little more about Rock Badgers if they were better eatin'!

  • You should keep calling Redmont Jerkmont. It's an infinitely more fitting name.

  • It should be called "Deadmont" since everybody there is pretty much dead. Well at least dead on the inside, excluding Robert, who is most certainly dead on the outside.

  • Oh how I wish this were so.

  • A mountain? Where's a hammer and boulders when you need 'em?

That'll kill a dragon for sure.

  • DeceasedRockBadger

  • With all of these rock badgers and rock worms with their rock projectiles in this area, I was half expecting the boss of that area to be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

    I was severely disappointed.

    Twice.

  • I respect the fact that you do so, but do you only do retro games? it would be fun to see some newer games Let's played.

  • No. No it would not.

  • But you let's played La Mulana and Trilby and all those weird flash freeware games like "I was in the War" and Limbo, and Pazzon, and that one where you switch which direction you fall in to solve puzzles. Those are all quite new.

  • ...this guy is talking about things like Mass Effect and Portal. I do LPs of indie games that are quite new, yes. But this guy wants me to LP Super Mario 27.

  • Huh, that's basically what every other LPer is doing...

    -D

  • Well I'm sorry, I just feel like having a purpose for LPing games other than attention. And my purpose is generally to raise awareness of lesser known games.

And yes, I know, most people watching the Cave Story LP already knew about the game, but some did not.

  • Oh, I see. Are you ever going to LP any N64/PS1 era titles? Or even Gamecube/PS2 era?

  • Probably not.

  • Super Mario 27? Which one is that?

  • like cavestory? or is that too old? fun game.

  • Cave Story is not as well known as it ought to be. Which is why I LPed it, years ago.

  • @DeceasedCrab

Which would make you like every other LPer ever.

And if you ever do I will make you bow down and scream "All glory to the hypno toad!"

  • Yay, the video's up!

    *Makes popcorn*

  • Oh my goodness. I thought, when I first heard that item pickup sound, that it was identical to Metroid's. Not quite, but dang... it is *very* close.

  • I wish the blue crystal in Castlevania II would be as accommodating as this staff. Always on, always scanning for nearby water that's just *asking* for trouble.

  • Is the max value of "Gold" you can have "65535"?

Would only make sense, seeing how that number is "FFFF". I don't know why I am asking, just curious I guess.

  • Probably.

  • I don't think so. I'm pretty sure there was an amulet that cost 80,000 gold.

  • 50,000 actually.

  • I would expect so. Most games of this timeline had gold stored in 16 bits. Most modern games store money in 32 bits. This is why nowadays, you can't have more than 2147483647 gold (or 4294967295 if the programmer doesn't be silly, or doesn't need a way to manage debt)

  • That statue with the seal on it looks suspiciously like a certain Rosenkreuzstilette enemy...

  • The word of the day is Ecosystem. The next time you hear someone say the secret word, scream real loud.

  • I love the music in the Ys Series.

  • Which of the rock things will be the next dance craze? Will it be the rock badger? The rock monster??? Who knows? (Other than DC, naturally.)

  • Glad to know I'm not the only person who thinks of the Metroid item theme when Adol gets an item in this game.

  • Perhaps when the statue disappeared, there was so much leftover thermal energy that it passed into the snow, warming it enough to melt it. It kinda ignores the law of conservation of mass but only strengthens the law of conservation of energy.

  • But mass and energy are equivalent, so it balances out.

  • the rock badgers are a feeble folk

  • does the music at the beginning of the video sound like chrono trigger to anyone else?

  • Glory to the almighty Staff of Salt.

  • Thanks for not making a Snoop Dog joke.

  • The badgers look more like ice armadillos, actually...

Solution to dragon! Stabbings to the face!

  • The combination of my Percocet for Migraines and DeceasedCrab's video being uploaded just as it's kicking in is pure 100% bliss.

  • The rock monsters' place in nature is killing foolhardy adventurers such as yourself.

  • I vote the rock worm thingys eat Rock Badgers. I didn't see a single Rock badger in that cave!

  • I love story time!

  • Environmental niche is correct. It is the role and purpose the creature fulfills in its local biome

  • The police have a problem with you because they want to keep formerly-living crustaceans down.

  • Did the Harpy boss have abnormally large legs, torso, and arms or does everybody else in this world have big heads?

  • no! stop being a rock badger!

  • Wait, Ys 3 has a plot?

  • I am surprised you didn't make a mountain maniac joke DC

  • The rock throwers probably eat dead cuttlefish.

  • I find it incredible how close oath of felghana is inspired from this game.

  • Considering it's a remake, it's not surprising at all. (PS, Oath of Felghana is a damn good game.)

  • Rock Badgers, definitely not the new rock lobsters.

  • Ah, i missed you and all of your subtle jokes that i will never get.

  • One day you will get them, and then you will inexplicably start laughing. Hope it doesn't happen during a sanity check.

  • dont make the crab angry

  • Why do you disable your video ratings anyways, DC? Are you having problems with down voters?

  • Not at all. If anything, I'd have a ton of 5-star ratings. No, it deals more with the fact that you cannot capture a video's quality for everyone in a 1-5 rating, and it's stupid to think you can, and I think the concept is stupid.

  • I wonder how many times you've explained this. (No, I won't count)

  • Enough that I roll my eyes everytime I see it asked, and delete the question 90% of the time.

  • Oh, I didn't know the question has been asked a million times, I apologize. I only asked because of the comment you made about someone rating the video before you could disable them.

  • Rock Badgers shouldn't be a problem. You've survived Octopi, after all.

  • Damn I tried to rate but you were too fast !!

  • You say this right after I announce that if I find out who keeps rating my videos, I'll block them.

You are an example of natural selection now.

  • Sigh. Once again some bonehead puts in a rating before I remember to disable them. Man, if I find you, I'm blocking your dumb ass.

  • You should be happy that people watch your videos literally seconds after they upload.

  • Maybe he is racing you.

  • I play the race card.
