@SuperTomas666 the number at the end of the 'Series' indicates how big the engine is. Ex. 525i =2.5L V6 535i=3.5L V6 540i=4.0L V8, and goes throughout the classes. X= All wheel drive i=well no one knows what that means LOL

*However, some people did purchase the 540 with a V6, but its very rare. Hope this helps(:

The 540i is a V8.

In the E34, all six cylinder engines were Straight Sixes, not V6's.
