In the original, great comic strip, he routinely eats his veggies, including spinach (while encouraging children to follow his example), so he is always strong and ready to fight! The strip is at least as violent as the cartoons!

I wanted badly to see this cartoon again after a 45 year hiatus. It was brilliant WW2 home front "prodganda" .. the Hitler spoof of the irritating Lifebouy Soap ad (B.O.) was hilarious. But, Popeye and Bluto fought together in this cartoon which begs the question ? ISN"T IT PATHETIC !

While many condemn WW2 cartoons such as this one as being racist propaganda, it must be remembered that the United States, Great Britain and other nations were in a fight for their very existence against Germany and Japan. While we are friends today then it was not considered wrong to fire up your population and armed forces by demonizing the enemy. These type of films must judged by the historic context.

I totally agree, it was a different time, those were some crazy and scary times, didn't know how long it would last or take to simmer things during that time as well as living off of ration cards for such thing as gasoline, bread, butter, sugar, tires for your car.........ect. or a new car. You couldn't get a new car for approx. 6 years. We didn't have T.V. only radio and movies to see and hear, so monay things were different you younger generation have not a clue as to the way things were. !!!!

I wanted badly to see this cartoon again after a 45 year hiatus. It was brilliant WW2 home front "prodganda" .. the Hitler spoof of the irritating Lifebouy Soap ad (B.O.) was hilarious. But, Popeye and Bluto fought together in this cartoon which begs the question ? ISN"T IT PATHETIC !

While many condemn WW2 cartoons such as this one as being racist propaganda, it must be remembered that the United States, Great Britain and other nations were in a fight for their very existence against Germany and Japan. While we are friends today then it was not considered wrong to fire up your population and armed forces by demonizing the enemy. These type of films must judged by the historic context.

I totally agree, it was a different time, those were some crazy and scary times, didn't know how long it would last or take to simmer things during that time as well as living off of ration cards for such thing as gasoline, bread, butter, sugar, tires for your car.........ect. or a new car. You couldn't get a new car for approx. 6 years. We didn't have T.V. only radio and movies to see and hear, so monay things were different you younger generation have not a clue as to the way things were. !!!!
