actually scissors work far better with that type of wire because wire cutters will fray the cloth insulation- believe it or not I do have a good idea of what I am doing!
you are possibly noticing the pickup is microphonic- making funny noises as it bounces around or if you picked it up in your hand it could sound noisier than usual. dont worry what it sounds like when the guitar is taken apart- you cant play it like that anyway. Untill its screwed down and installed it could make all sorts of noise.
oh- you mean you put the cover on and now it sounds funny? Its a fender pickup where the coil is exposed under the cover- its not taped over? All fender style pickups i make I tape the coil because you can easily break the coil taking the cover on or off on an original fender pickup- I have seen it happen over and over. Once the coil is broke it would most likely need rewound- not usually repairable.
The blondes or blackface models- blackface are a little more agressive and gritty, blondes more chimey and glassy. Blondes are 50's tone and Blackface 60's
Absolutely no problem installing this type of pickup into squires. I have several squires of different models- multiple teles, strats, jazzbass and I have personally swapped pickups out in everyone so I can guarantee they will fit.
Well thats entirely debateable. Lots of people put good pickups in low price guitars. It will sound WAY better than it did and will be close to being comparable with a standard model. You need to replace the pots, switch and output jack too. The only problem you cant do anything about with squires is the strats have a slightly smaller and lighter sustain block than a standard model. If you ever go to sell the guitar- keep the new pickups and put the originals back in.
Why? Because they use the cheapest parts they can find. You dont have to but youll; notice a difference in feel for sure, they will last far longer and often sound noticeably better.
ALWAYS cut wires with wire cutters.
that's why man invented them, not scissors

this is so good thanks :) but 1 question is this for a 3 way or 5 way switch or doesn't that matter?
Rickkkie12 2 years ago
they are both wired the same- the 5 way just has a little indentation that holds the lever in between positions

ahh- little short pieces of surgical tubing?
Those are often used instead of springs for the height adjustment screws. They work OK untill they get hard as a rock in a few years.

I bought a $150 JT-300 strat, I want to upgrade the pickups. Which pickups would you recommend me for playing classy blues, early rock?

is it worth it replacing the pickups in a squier with great sounding ones like yours, some people say its pointless, cuz its a "squier".
