  • ALWAYS cut wires with wire cutters.

that's why man invented them, not scissors

  • actually scissors work far better with that type of wire because wire cutters will fray the cloth insulation- believe it or not I do have a good idea of what I am doing!

  • this is so good thanks :) but 1 question is this for a 3 way or 5 way switch or doesn't that matter?

  • they are both wired the same- the 5 way just has a little indentation that holds the lever in between positions

  • ive messed around with my pickups and ive only had my first electric guitar for 2 weeks and when i unscrew the neck pickup it sounds weird

  • you are possibly noticing the pickup is microphonic- making funny noises as it bounces around or if you picked it up in your hand it could sound noisier than usual. dont worry what it sounds like when the guitar is taken apart- you cant play it like that anyway. Untill its screwed down and installed it could make all sorts of noise.

  • no i put the faceplate on it and the screws on the side are the ones i am messing with

  • oh- you mean you put the cover on and now it sounds funny? Its a fender pickup where the coil is exposed under the cover- its not taped over? All fender style pickups i make I tape the coil because you can easily break the coil taking the cover on or off on an original fender pickup- I have seen it happen over and over. Once the coil is broke it would most likely need rewound- not usually repairable.

  • thank you but you sound like Nicholas cage the actor very interesting.

  • shoot I am in the wrong business- I could be doing voice overs for nicholas cage! Thanks for pointing that out :)

  • it is a 4 conductor

  • yes

  • best pickups ever

  • Jason Lollar is the man!

    These vids are great!

  • is ur a pickup a 4 conductor-wiring type Sir?

  • No the pickups in the video are vintage wire- single conductor with a cloth insulator.

  • what kind of soldering wire is that again? and where can i buy it? nice pickups. :)

  • best pickup replacement guide I have seen on the net, will consider lollar next time i am looking for pickups

  • I Bought 3 Fender Texas Specail pickups and i dont know where to put these little rubbers. Please Jason Pass On Your WISDOM!

  • ahh- little short pieces of surgical tubing?

Those are often used instead of springs for the height adjustment screws. They work OK untill they get hard as a rock in a few years.

  • How much was the pickups? looking to buy some my self :)

  • I bought a $150 JT-300 strat, I want to upgrade the pickups. Which pickups would you recommend me for playing classy blues, early rock?

  • The blondes or blackface models- blackface are a little more agressive and gritty, blondes more chimey and glassy. Blondes are 50's tone and Blackface 60's

  • I love you guys just because of the pick

  • Ahh the wonnerfull pick, yes we get alodda of that!

  • Absolutely no problem installing this type of pickup into squires. I have several squires of different models- multiple teles, strats, jazzbass and I have personally swapped pickups out in everyone so I can guarantee they will fit.

  • is it worth it replacing the pickups in a squier with great sounding ones like yours, some people say its pointless, cuz its a "squier".

  • Well thats entirely debateable. Lots of people put good pickups in low price guitars. It will sound WAY better than it did and will be close to being comparable with a standard model. You need to replace the pots, switch and output jack too. The only problem you cant do anything about with squires is the strats have a slightly smaller and lighter sustain block than a standard model. If you ever go to sell the guitar- keep the new pickups and put the originals back in.

  • why would you need to change the pots switch and output jack in a squire coz i wanna change the pickups in mine

  • Why? Because they use the cheapest parts they can find. You dont have to but youll; notice a difference in feel for sure, they will last far longer and often sound noticeably better.

  • will i be able to install this pickups on a knockoff strat squir
