The MAIN problem were the default mortgage swaps that allowed investment firms to "act" like banks and were allowed the same legal leverages as banks. The MAIN problem were the default mortgage swaps that allowed investment firms to "act" like banks and were allowed the same legal leverages as banks. This was allowed to happen by removing a regulatory policy that separated the two back in 2002 by none other than the cheney/bush administration and spearheaded by a republican senator from Texas.

OK let's go with this..... how many recent best sellers do they carry? enough for everyone to get a copy & keep to read at their leisure? some people don't want to wait for months to read the book. kinda like Canadian health care, since they're health care is rationed they would rather come to the states & pay rather than wait for months on a list.

the last of the regulations from the depression of the 30's that separated investment firms from banks were removed by REPUBLICAN senator Phil Gramm in 2002.
The 'merging' of these two entities enabled default mortgage swaps and 'insurance policies' to be taken out on these HIGHLY over leveraged loans which ultimately caused the collapse.
The REPUBLICANs deregulation CAUSED the collapse! It doesnt take a genius to understand how it works, but you most certainly are not that!

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act allowed for MORE COMMERCE, loans, and growth of the economy.
They still had to abide by many standards as they were still banks.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were not regulated and backed the banks, bought up the loans and securities, and BECAUSE OF DEMOCRATS - that did not want to hold them to the same standards - the market fell and thus... (for retarded like you) - is why they called it a liquidity crisis!

I've heard that whole "move to another country" argument made when it was in vogue back in 2003 and 2004 when I was opposed to certain policies of USA that the government was pushing (torture, sending our troops overseas for unjust reasons, etc) but I don't think it is an appropriate kind of argument to make.
