I adopted a cat from a shelter that has straight ears. I thought she was just a regular American short hair. She doesn't shed as much as my other cat. She has a little pug face kind of like a scottish fold or british shorthair, and she tends to be chubby. She has a sweet, soft voice, I've heard her growl maybe 1x or 2x in 10 years! She has the sweetest personality and LOVES to be held, cuddled & petted. I wonder if she's a Scottish Fold? She has the BEST cat personality. SO lovable!
I was a scottish fold breeder in the 1990's. They are wonderful cats, unique personality, striking good looks, and great family pet. BUT, as Kera1980 points out, there are many cute and loving cats and kittens in shelters. Statistically, half of all Scottish Folds born will have normal, straight ears for their entire lives - and as the breed grows in popularity too many of these lovely babies are ending up in shelters. Get a scottie, but also adopt one of their siblings or save a shelter baby.
I use to have a scottish fold. She was adorable, but really shy and she didn't have a connection with my two other cats (siamese and my other cat. She was very independent and quiet cat. But she loved to play with the shadow or the light and bite peopel nosesXD
they r so cute... but one thing is bothering me... why this guy talks like he's planting a garden? i mean duh... hey u 4 eyed guy, u r talking about animals not about roses, u can have white, or red.. omfg... idk but it makes me feel mad n sad...
I find them cute when they are a kitten. Then they look so sweet with folded ears. but when they are grown up it almost looks like they are angry cats or something but that's just my opinion
oh and they are terrible outside cats, they will get eaten by something if left out. ( they are ridiculous and have no instincts) apparently the lifespan of an outdoor scottish fold is only 4 years...soo....dont leave em outside, i guarantee they will try to make friends with the neighborhood dogs
your so right, my little fold is so loving & I would never let my fold outside. My little fold is 4 years old and so playful & curious. I would love to adopt another one.
I have a domestic to keep the little fold company.
I love the look of the scottish folds, but what they do NOT tell you here is that the folded gene is a genetic DEFECT not just a mutation.
It negatively impacts the cartilage in the cat, which is why the ear folds. But cartilage is also what gives a cats joints and tail their flexibility. If you breed a fold to a fold, the condition is so pronounced the cat will be in pain with a stiff tail and joints. With just one, the effect is reduced, but still not good. =(
actually thats no true, scottish folds that are bred correctly they can live to 18 years of age. ear cartilege is already flexible and therefore the genetic disposition only affects the joints when it is fold to fold breeding, at that point you can get joint weakness and skeletal deformities. genetically however, scottish folds are biologicially normal and are not prone to health problems, although some of the more peke faced ones can have issues with brachycephalic skulls sometimes
lol naw i just love my scottish fold, and followed my best friend ( who is a vet tech) around for about a year before I got one, learning all this junk
:( i lost all my 4 cats... my dad dont want more cats.. he wants a dog.. sure no problem with dog.. but u must take care of dogs.. cats are going where they want themselfes u just have to let em out and feed em :I
I love my scottish fold, these cats are so cute. My scottish fold has the trait but not the folded ears. These cats are lap funguses, playful and very sociable. They cant get enough of us humans.
1337Scuba says: in my opinion these cats are only good when they are kittens."
Huh?! You must've never owned one! Mine is 7 yrs. old & the best pet I've ever had. Incredibly smart, easy going, travels well, & very funny. Everybody says she's the cutest cat they've ever seen. My parents actually "borrow" her. On yahoogroups is a forum called Scottish Fold Fanciers & there are dozens of members, all of who wouldn't trade their Folds for the world.
Yep, it's an important part in breeding Scottish Folds. You have to have one straight ear to breed. Two folded ears should never be bred together or the offspring can carry a genetic defect that causes damage to their forelegs. That's why everyone should make sure the breeder is reputable before you consider buying one.
You obviously don't know any. They are far from boring. I'm telling you they have exceptional little personalities and are extremely intelligent. Rosie is right, they love to play and love people. Most of all they're funny. They're just plain goofy. Mine is more like a dog. She travels with me, rides in the car & walks on a leash. If you met one you'd love it.
I have a straight ear Scottish Fold female Pebbles. These cats are genius like...no joke. They have some very funny traits. They like to "buddah sit", which is where they sit laid back & on their butt like a person. They also like to sleep flat on their backs. Their coats are extra soft. They travel extremely well. They are easy to train and teach tricks. They love toys and to play. They just act goofy. People always say she's the cutest cat they've ever seen.
Google Scottish Fold Rescue.. EVERY pedigreed cat breed has dedicated people who rescue cats, vet them, etc. and want to find homes flor them. If you want to save a life this is the next best thing to going to a shelter. Some of these cats are from BAD breeders. They need homes.
The message is the same. Type down ''scottish fold canada'' and you will get a breeder. In Ontario for ex. you have Kinross Breeder. I have a 5 year old female
Try FBRL ... it's an online source for finding breeders in your area. They sort by breed and location. They also often have retired breeding cats available. If you can take an adult, please consider adopting one.
I have a Cool Grey Tabby. Her name is Charlie.I'd like to get her a frind to hang with.Would a Scottish Fold be a good choice.since Chux ownes the house?
Yes they are cute, but lots of cuties who need homes are at shelters. Until the cat population's under control, consider giving a home to a shelter cat. They're just as loving. :)
Shelter animals need homes, but if a person gets a purebred, do not fault them for that. Spay and neuter and give your animal a forever home. Whether they be from a shelter or a breeder.
We actually got our two scottish folds from the shelter. I don't know why they were there but we lucked out. I had never heard of a scottish fold before we got our two. They are brother and sister and really are the best cats. They are very quiet. They hardly ever meow.. even when they are wanting fed. Usually when they want fed, they will find something close to you and make noise with it like a piece of paper or whatever.
@Kera1980 yeah ur right! i got my cat from a foster home, and im getting a cat today! im reallky excited! his name is simon and the 1 ive had is named duke! theyre both really sweet :)

scottish folds are not your average shelter cat. usually called fancier's cats because their an elite special breed.
you get them from finding a local breeder. not a shelter, and most if not all need to be registered to keep track of their ancestory.

They didn't. In the same way that they didn't make the cat orange, or make it's nose pink.
