My only question is, does the electronix "cover" do justice to the original? My personal answer to this question is, yes, this is a lovely version of a great original..
Tomita is like a box of chocolates; you never know if you're going to get sillyness, or satire or beauty when you bite in. it would have been easy to lampoon and skewer this chestnut in a hundred different ways, and he has taken the high road with as delicate and lovely treatment as we've ever heard from the master. Arigato Isao
i first got into tomita when i came across his first vynil at the record store i worked at in Sacramento, it was cool to hear certain riffs and soundwaves that were used in the final fantasy games almost 35 to 40 years later.
In 1973, when I'd taken my first real job as an Instructor at Florida International University in Miami, a friend gave me 'Snowflakes Are Dancing." Then, I was 27. Now, I'm 63 and still in awe of the genius of Isao Tomita--one of Japan's greatest treasures. Thanks, Gayle, for the introduction to 36 years of musical pleasure.
I have been listening to Isao Tomita since I was a wee lad (almost 40 now..thanks dad). :) THIS one piece (as well as his version of Clair de Lune) bring tears to my eyes..THE most beautifully arranged pieces of classical music for snythesizers...amen! :)
Many years ago me and the wife sat watching a TV programme about the life of children in Northern Ireland. I was enchanted with the music that I later found out was by TOMITA. Think it was Clair de lune off the Snowflakes are dancing album. I have been a huge fan ever since and have all of his albums. I think he is/was brilliant. Love this track but whatever has happened to him?
Ya know..I honestly do not know..I am takin a guess here, but I think he has been concentrating on movie scores. I will have to take a gander around the 'net and see what I can find. When I do, I'll post it here. :) I saw him do his show in '86 in NYC for the Statue of Liberty..what a show! :-)
I posted a video response but it didn't take.. Anyhow if it does show, I have some videos on my channel demonstrating sound programs in Ubuntu Linux, one in particular called ZynAddSubFx, if you want to do your own Tomita covers, it's very capable. The synthesis really reminds me of Tomita's instruments. Of course with every video I make, all the software I demonstrate (tends to be) free and open source.. Tools for the least financially capable.
I love tomita... I've been listening to his pictures at an exhibition since I was what... 9? I got it as a present from my mom, who had it on a record when it first came out.
My brother introduced me to Pictures at an Exhibition, I had a reel to reel recording of the album (with skips, argh), but I feel in love with Tomita's music with that album too.

Seems a bit pointless to me. Why doesn't he write his own music or do something a bit different. This just sounds exactly like I would expect Bach on a synth to sound like and nothing more.
that's very interesting seeing as this piece of music was not written by Bach but Pachelbel. at least try to get your facts right when you are posting uninformed comments like that.
I will admit that it's not his most dramatic soundscape ever...still, the piece is meant to be more simple and emotional so I won't fault him for that.
@nickeane It's funny that you say that, because there's a theory that the piece was written for JS Bach's brother's (Johann Christoph) wedding. Indeed the two families were very close.
I really love this electronic version also I'd like to get married with this music in back ground oh! Lord give me a christian woman that loves you as much as I do love God! take care everyone bye! and I ♥ love you Jesus! ♫♫♫
This is one of the most beautiful melodic songs ever written. Tomita does a beautiful job with his electronic remake. i think Tomita is among pioneers of electronic music and has been cited by Aphex Twin aka Richard David James as one of his early influences. Brilliant...melodic...music.
Exelente Isao Tomita

This music is divine. (European) classical music is the pinnacle of human artistic achievement. The orientals are nothing but cheap imitators.

Thank you.
