  • Whats the newer version of this song called. Been looking for ages its a bit more of a dancey song!?

  • Thank you for posting this!!!!

  • One of my favorite bands ever! Playing along with their records taught me everything about playing the bass and how to groove

  • Let me tell you something and i will not say it again for another song. I've used all of the the vocal inflections over the years on other songs that i have sung and they work. the harmonies as well. The bass line brings nothing but a church grove and you want to dance, shout or both. This band did not get it's turn on the top. for whatever reason, Great Post.

  • Awww, man! Reminds me of summer of... '79, '80? Loved it then, Love it now!

  • love this song. played it all the time when i was a kid

  • This was back in da days luv it!Old skool rules!

  • yes i wanna!

  • forgotten funk

  • What an awesome monster groove. They don't make them like this anymore.

  • I GOT IT!!! There is a business here where I live that deals with djs..I called him, and he was able to get me this, as well as The Invisible Man's Band- All Night Thing, Funk you right on up-Sequence, You are the ne by AM/FM, and So fine by Howard Johnson. My old school collection is off the hook!...and it sounds good in my ipod!

  • @Bass By The Bay - I grew up in Hayward and you are right KSOL and KDIA would jam this song. I still have this album in my collection. I love this jam.

  • Been wanting to hear this for YEARS! Reminds me of a summer in Princeville, NC. My older cousins Nicky and Rabbit had this album that I had never heard in Philly, and I just wore this poor album out while I was visiting.

  • this is the jam wow what great memories real music okay

  • can someone tell me howto get this on my iPodor in my playlist

  • @carmenreneinc I have it on my ipod, Just got it yesterday. I'm sure that I have a lot more that you can't find.....keptbyangela2009@live.com

  • This was almost the favorite house song at Leviticus on 8th Ave in NYC (or was it Justine's)? The DJ would mix the break for about 15 minutes before dropping it!

  • @twinzor1 - It was JUSTINES! I was there and I remember that! All the hookers used to come in there and pick the guys up! LOL! It is now a McDonalds *th Avenue between 34th and 35th streets on 8th avenue....GOOD TIMES!!! :o)

  • Finally ! Thank you a million times over. One of my favorite all time songs. The last time I heard this was in the early eighties. Now I have it for life......

  • Miami '79 african square park, Liberty City...Carol City, The Bajas...Opa-Locka..183rd...Luv Ya Mitzie..:)

  • I haven't heard this jam in about 20 years...damn it sounds good....

  • Lord, have mercy!

I have this on vinyl! to say it was/ is my jam is an understatement!

I was living in the Bay Area at the time, and when I would visit L.A I would bring the album with me, and let my DJ friends try it out. Everyone though it was Cameo or the Bar-Kays...NOT! Gotta get this on my iPod for the workout! THANK YOU!!!!

  • @oldschldiva I am with you on this. Heard this on KSOL 107.7 Dam I miss them days

  • @tswift101

Yes! KSOL (or KDIA when we were in my mom's car which didn't have FM ;-) ). One of my fave jams *ever*. This wasn't a big hit, and I never understood why not. Didn't get a lot of airplay if I recall. Thank goodness I had recorded it on cassette... drove my mom crazy playing this over and over. This track makes you move whether you want to or not!

  • @BassByTheBay

I played it to death also on my cassette. I had to get new batteries everyday! lol

  • 16 and knockin boots to this tune.

  • Love this song! Man, but it's so hard to find it!

  • Any folks in Toronto in 1979? Club Hagermans 1979.

  • I rocked this song in the fall of '79 when I had a party for my 10th bday. GOD...how I miss songs like this!

  • I can't believe I am hearing this song! It has been so long since I've heard this! I know my sisters and brothers will celebrate hearing this! (LOL) What a great post! Thanks for memories! Like someone said, it brings tears to my eye!!!

  • Thx I was just startn 2 play Bass when this came out...8th grade. Pure Dope

  • another group I want to see is the PLAYER'S ASSOCIATION in 1980...I have the original LP. 1978-1980 was lot of great dance groups that only had a few hit singles. Silver platinum is another. There was even a tower of power hit single I can't locate anywhere called ROCK IT BABY around 1978 that was a great dance song like this one by SHOTGUN.

  • The song you may be looking for could be "ROCK BABY" on the 1979 album BACK ON THE STREETS. It is on COLUMBIA RECORDS and SONY CDS. The catalog # is 35784. it was re-released on Sony in 1993. You should be able to find this CD without much of a problem. It is the album with the group name and title on the tire of a Pontiac Trans Am".ROCK BABY" is definitely a dance tune complete with "clap track". Have fun...

  • thank you ondrauscissell, you're awesome for knowing hard to find rare SINGLE hits! I am very thankful for the many old school contributor here in youtube like yourself and the people posting hard to find songs including jazz tunes. just awesome. I collect old school tunes and have to admit, I still don't have a lot of tunes i should have.

  • Your welcome anytime! Glad to help. I need more good tunes myself. I will always collect good music... To find Shotgun on CD will be tough. However, that is part of the fun sometimes. You never know...

  • @OndrausCissell I got it!

  • tjhe album is tower of power

  • @infantrygerbil It's "Rock Baby" by Tower of Power.

  • I've been looking for shotgun and this song on cd, can't find it anywhere. grew up with this song on 45 rpm vinyl...

  • THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I've been trying to find this song, this made my day. Thanks again!

  • DAMN! Almost brings a tear to my eye. Nothin' but good times back then. Smooooooooooooooth!

    PEACE

  • this song was and still is the shiznit, love the ole school

  • this was my shit back n da day!! glad I found it, my cassette is going bad

  • WOW, I've been looking for this band forever. Thanks for posting. I am dating myself, but I have the cassette tape, but it doesn't work to well. Thanks again!!!

  • Yes.... thank you for posting a hard to find funk song... a lotta of memories.... like Hotline and Motherfunk

  • My brother played drums for this band, Its so good to see that people still remember and enjoy Shotgun. I still see Larry Austin, I miss the other guys, everyone in this band was always humble.I still have my albums that my brother had given me. Can wait to tell him about the comments posted.

  • Was he the single white guy on the back of "Good, Bad, and Funky"?

  • No, hes the drummer. Les Carter, Ty is the original drummer, Les came in on this album here. Or. I think it was the one before this one. But I know for sure this is him on this song cause I remember watching them when they were writing the songs for this album.

  • @313urbanlegend

Please Pleae Please. i just read your post I've been trying to find In and Out of Love for over15 years now on a CD. ai even searched the white record stores. It's nowhere to be found and that's a shame. This type of music is timeless. Is it at all possible that your connections can get me a copy of it and Don't You WannaMake Love. I had the album, but somewhere in life's transitions its disappeared. I would be so grateful!

    My email is CarmenForston@aol.com Thanks

  • @313urbanlegend - Funky dope bass on this!!! :o) NY CLASSIC! :O)

  • Great song. Could you post Standing In Need Of Love by Shotgun? Thanks

  • This is the shiznit chillun!
