Let me tell you something and i will not say it again for another song. I've used all of the the vocal inflections over the years on other songs that i have sung and they work. the harmonies as well. The bass line brings nothing but a church grove and you want to dance, shout or both. This band did not get it's turn on the top. for whatever reason, Great Post.
I GOT IT!!! There is a business here where I live that deals with djs..I called him, and he was able to get me this, as well as The Invisible Man's Band- All Night Thing, Funk you right on up-Sequence, You are the ne by AM/FM, and So fine by Howard Johnson. My old school collection is off the hook!...and it sounds good in my ipod!
@Bass By The Bay - I grew up in Hayward and you are right KSOL and KDIA would jam this song. I still have this album in my collection. I love this jam.
Been wanting to hear this for YEARS! Reminds me of a summer in Princeville, NC. My older cousins Nicky and Rabbit had this album that I had never heard in Philly, and I just wore this poor album out while I was visiting.
This was almost the favorite house song at Leviticus on 8th Ave in NYC (or was it Justine's)? The DJ would mix the break for about 15 minutes before dropping it!
@twinzor1 - It was JUSTINES! I was there and I remember that! All the hookers used to come in there and pick the guys up! LOL! It is now a McDonalds *th Avenue between 34th and 35th streets on 8th avenue....GOOD TIMES!!! :o)
Finally ! Thank you a million times over. One of my favorite all time songs. The last time I heard this was in the early eighties. Now I have it for life......
I have this on vinyl! to say it was/ is my jam is an understatement!
I was living in the Bay Area at the time, and when I would visit L.A I would bring the album with me, and let my DJ friends try it out. Everyone though it was Cameo or the Bar-Kays...NOT! Gotta get this on my iPod for the workout! THANK YOU!!!!
Yes! KSOL (or KDIA when we were in my mom's car which didn't have FM ;-) ). One of my fave jams *ever*. This wasn't a big hit, and I never understood why not. Didn't get a lot of airplay if I recall. Thank goodness I had recorded it on cassette... drove my mom crazy playing this over and over. This track makes you move whether you want to or not!
if you LOOOKING for a long time no hear song on YOUTUBE and its not ON here keep CHECKING BACK i've been doing this for atleast 3 YEARS trying to find this GEM its here alive and FUNKING....!!!!
Damn twinzor1, who are you?! This is THE jam! Had that on-the-one funk that you couldn't help but move to. This is a hard-to-find album -- thanks for posting.
i wish all the funk fans could rent out a bar and play this shit all day and nite and juss dance the nite away!!!! how i long for a day like that..... on my wedding im going to play funk i dont care who likes it!!!!
I can't believe I am hearing this song! It has been so long since I've heard this! I know my sisters and brothers will celebrate hearing this! (LOL) What a great post! Thanks for memories! Like someone said, it brings tears to my eye!!!
another group I want to see is the PLAYER'S ASSOCIATION in 1980...I have the original LP. 1978-1980 was lot of great dance groups that only had a few hit singles. Silver platinum is another. There was even a tower of power hit single I can't locate anywhere called ROCK IT BABY around 1978 that was a great dance song like this one by SHOTGUN.
The song you may be looking for could be "ROCK BABY" on the 1979 album BACK ON THE STREETS. It is on COLUMBIA RECORDS and SONY CDS. The catalog # is 35784. it was re-released on Sony in 1993. You should be able to find this CD without much of a problem. It is the album with the group name and title on the tire of a Pontiac Trans Am".ROCK BABY" is definitely a dance tune complete with "clap track". Have fun...
thank you ondrauscissell, you're awesome for knowing hard to find rare SINGLE hits! I am very thankful for the many old school contributor here in youtube like yourself and the people posting hard to find songs including jazz tunes. just awesome. I collect old school tunes and have to admit, I still don't have a lot of tunes i should have.
Your welcome anytime! Glad to help. I need more good tunes myself. I will always collect good music... To find Shotgun on CD will be tough. However, that is part of the fun sometimes. You never know...
WOW, I've been looking for this band forever. Thanks for posting. I am dating myself, but I have the cassette tape, but it doesn't work to well. Thanks again!!!
My brother played drums for this band, Its so good to see that people still remember and enjoy Shotgun. I still see Larry Austin, I miss the other guys, everyone in this band was always humble.I still have my albums that my brother had given me. Can wait to tell him about the comments posted.
No, hes the drummer. Les Carter, Ty is the original drummer, Les came in on this album here. Or. I think it was the one before this one. But I know for sure this is him on this song cause I remember watching them when they were writing the songs for this album.
Please Pleae Please. i just read your post I've been trying to find In and Out of Love for over15 years now on a CD. ai even searched the white record stores. It's nowhere to be found and that's a shame. This type of music is timeless. Is it at all possible that your connections can get me a copy of it and Don't You WannaMake Love. I had the album, but somewhere in life's transitions its disappeared. I would be so grateful!
Whats the newer version of this song called. Been looking for ages its a bit more of a dancey song!?
