  • oh my god.. epic sounding A-flat @ 1:32 LMAO... that's so ridiculous :P

  • @1cy1nferno Its actually 2 different notes its called a trill! Hes doing that to make it sound more like a bird which was composed in the actual music. And are you sure that an A-flat? it sounds like a different note to me

He's really awesome and really talented.

  • how does he do that amazing sound :O

  • @w00gl3 He can play REAAAALLLY high.

  • @w00gl3 All it is is a well controlled "Squeak" if you watch him in other songs he does this by putting a lot of pressure to barely control his lips

  • We did a brass band workshop with him running it and conducting, up the northeast of scotland and he played this at the end concert. It was amazing but i prefered his rendition of carnival of venice. The only other person I've seen do carnival of venice without music is my brass teacher Mark Boyd.

  • By that i mean really well, like standard wise, if you know what i mean.

  • i was lucky enough to be some of the lucky lot around the country to play with the national childrens brass band of great britain last year when he was the guest soloist at the concert at the bridge water hall

    he is sooooooooooooooooooo good

  • Is the music for this arrangment available to buy anywhere?

  • hey dude ok where are you from? and how do you get david to come over? and when i mean how do you get him to com over i mean cash wise obviously

    please reply

    thank you

  • i dont think i could play this whole thing, not because of talent, but i would laugh at the slurs every time

    great

  • CRAZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYY!!! I love it!

  • dude wat's with the canray, bird, chicken thing its unatural

  • But Funny.

  • true still its creepy

  • The presence of the canary is probably, maybe, quite likely, could be to do with the fact that the song is entitled "The Hot Canary".

  • That is not normal !!!!

  • That's one hot canary!

  • You are the best euphonium player ever! What's your technique for lip slurs? Are u usin a Dennis Wick 4al?

  • Favorite part at 1:30.

    google trad:

is that France is not very secure in terms brass band lool I'm kidding ;-)

and the euphonium is not an orchestra's instrument unfortunately ...

I had the opportunity to attend one of his masterclass in NJBB (national jungend brass band der schweiz) and it was just amazing! it was his father who was conductor ^^

  • I love Maynards version of this.. but this is great

  • go euphoniums ^_^

  • AWESOME PLAYING AND STYLE.

    Love the "whot whot's" :D

    This is allmost a legendary

brass gathering, Owen Farr, Steven Sykes,

Bob Childs and so on, AWESOME, Just AWESOME :D:D:D

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!! I like your comment!

  • He's so amazing! I play the euphonium as well, and wish I could play half as good as he could. That would be amazing!

  • I saw this in the Albert Hall too. Me and my friend weren't going to go to the concert but so glad we did. Breathtaking!

  • ok how many people here actually have the slightest knowlege of brass banding? i must say wot an amaizing player david childs is

  • stupid noobs, both baritones and euphoniums can have 4 valves the difference is a euphonium is more conical and a baritone is more cylandrical, i forget the exact specifications

  • I actually saw this at the Albert hall, brilliant!

  • lmao this alone might explain his hernia

  • rofl. nice comment

  • just adding onto the baritone/euphonium thing, they play in the register, but when i play the two, baritone is a little brassier, euphonium has more of that dark tuba sound if you play it nice n' full lol.

  • Technically, a euphonium is called a tenor tuba.

  • No, it can be classified as a tenor tuba, but nobody calls it that.

  • That's like saying a baritone can also be called a valved trombone.

  • Does he play polyphonic in this video ?

  • INCREDIBLE

I so wish I could play like him

  • The difference between a euphonium and a baritone is the size. Also, a euphonium has a lower pitch, I think. I play euphonium, so from what I've seen are those differences...

  • A Euphonium has gradually wider tubing from the mouthpiece until the bell, where it widens out drastically, as all brass instruments do. A Baritone is built more like a trumpet, in the sense that the tubing stays nearly the same width until near the end, where it widens into the bell. Also, the traditonal baritone (TC) is much smaller than a normal Euphonium.

  • The length of tubing for the euph and bari are the same, so they're in the same range (apart from compensating euphs having a 4th valve and a bari doesn't).

  • Some baritones have 4 valves, even 5 valves!

  • Yeah, even 6 valves, but the other 2 are just for helping tuning in lower octaves and notes when bands couldn't always be in tune. Now, a Euphonium only needs 4 valves because of modifications in the instrument.

  • baritones can also have 4th valves and also can they have compensating systems!

The difference between a baritone and a euphonium is simple: the baritone's tube's are cylindrical, and the euphoniums tube's are conical!

But you don't have to look that close to see if it is an baritone or an euphonium, put them next together, the widest is an euphonium, the smallest a baritone.

  • I dont under stand whats the differences between a baritone and a euphonium? is a euphonium a auctive higher? beacause i play baritone and i just cant see a difference

  • a euphonium and baritone have very different sounds, a euphonium is warm mellow and very open where as a baritone is broad, and tighter. Both great instruments though. Yes euphonium is also bigger, has a bigger bell

  • To bad the video doesn't show him playing this. But whatever, I like the video anyway.

  • He played quite differently in IBBSS... but it still amazes me every time I hear it!

  • LMAO! nice

  • David Childs kicks ass!

  • it's actually 64 Fs :D, his uncle said so

  • What's FS?

  • the high notes he plays, the ones that sound like "tweet tweet"

  • 66 super Fs!! The guy's incredible!

  • Wainwright!! Were you not listening at RAH, Bob Childs said that Dave playeed 64, but that he had played 65 when HE used to play it!!!

  • Wow that guy is incedible.

  • the best euphonium in the world

  • simply amaazin

  • sick

  • Who said a euphonium can't sound like a bird.

  • Absoloutely fantastic
