We saw the originals (or close) beginning in 1965. John McElrath was the leader then and still is (I saw him singing in one video). His two sons, Shane and Shawn are in this group. We followed them just about everywhere. They were great and still really sound about the same, but we had favorites in the old group, a couple of which have passed away. These guys are great too though!
Either these guys haven't aged or these aren't the original members. This is not what I expected when I clicked on this video, but, whoever these guys are still sound good and the band is damn tight. I'd go see these guys, even if they aren't the original Swingin' Medallions.
i really think you guys are great i saw you perform at the kingfish tornament in florida, and brought my mom, when you see oldies groups you want to see at least one original band member up there,my mom was dissapointed and said this is not them.get some of the original members out to perform with you, it would be a real treat but as always you guys are great musicians and i love you but please let us see the real thing.
they should not even be called the swingin medallions, they should be called tribute band for the swingin medallions, there is not even one original member there they are the kids riding on their daddy's coat tales i want to see the original swingin medalions perform on day.
The group name belongs to John McElrath who started the group back in the 60's so nobody is "riding" on daddy's coat tails - this is his idea, and he occasionally sings with them!!!
in 1969 i was in the army and i was stationed either at ft. gordon ga. in advanced individual training or at fort benning ga. for n.c.o school. if i'm not mistaken a member of the swinging medallions was one of the training personell in charge of my group of trainees. i went to vietnam with the infantry and i assume he did to. i hope he made it back o.k.. i ran across this video looking for a good song for karaoke. i'll watch posting on this video for a responce
It's been a few years, but I was on Carnival Fascination with you guys when you performed. You guys did the absolute best "white" version of Brickhouse. You show the world that funk and soul is not just a "black" thing. Thanks for the grand memories. Keep up the good work, you deserve the best.
My uncle Johnny Cox played sax in the Swingin' Medallions having joined them in 1967. :)

Not the originals...but some are descendants of the originals...and you never, know, you might see an original member or two playing with them.
