it's heartfelt, that's for sure, but I think the composition is unfortunate in that it ends the way it does with "alone" being sung so strongly. If you watch Mahalia Jackson's version, though it is stronger on the gospel side, she sings the last word in a softer gentle way, and that, in my opinion, is how the song should feel. think about it.

You can hear her straining, but it almost works in this setting. She's committing emotion and singing decently, and there are moments when she really, really gets it right.1:30-1:35 is a good example, 1:00-1:05 as well.

Yes, the song did orginate from the musical Carosel, but at the same time, Liverpool did take it and make it much more famous through football means. I'm sorry if you're bitter that Liverpool has made it much more widespread than the musical it was written originally for, but that's just the way things turned out. I understand that you want people to acknowledge the origins of the song, but you shouldn't denounce people when they link this song to Liverpool - it means something to them too.
