Probably a little late, but what we usually do is keep some food in/near our hand before actually feeding them (so they're hungry :p) and wait until they eat that. Or come close, depending how scared they are. Just do that every day, until they let you hold the food.
Not that that was needed with these ones, they pretty much started eating from our hand from the start, they're not fearful at all. Which kind of sucks, because now we need a net over the pond. They're not afraid of cats either.. :(
Aww that sucks. Those nets are difficult too if you have tall plants in your pond like I do. I have 2 koi and 2 goldies now they all hide lol. I think I mess with the plants too much for them. Soon (this winter) I plan on putting in a brand new pond!!! I'll be posting a vid of the process as we go!
@MUGiSA3000 2 years on, actually :p The pond is a bit over-populated now, so not only guys in there :p We got a few drop-dead gorgeous ones too, but alas we'll need to get rid of a bunch next year.

I went to this person's house that had a pond, and the fish would all approach where i was sitting, and open theirs mouths at me :3

I have a female shubunkin called Marley , I think its a female because it has the white speckles near its tail at the back

I had 2 turtles and a few fishes. Fishes started to disappear :(.
I will never know if it was the turtles, a cat or something

@plutarkosky Some turtles eat fish, we got turtles in a fishing lake, totally infested with them, there are not much fish to catch now :(
