Few guitarists had an understanding of Paul's music like J McCulloch. The smoothness of the leads on Band on the Run are pure poetry. Yet another brilliant musical talent falling victim to the hedonism and over-indulgence of narcotics. Pity, really.
man...why did paul have to change the wings line-up so many times!! he should've kept this one and they would've been the next beatles with a '70's sound.
I agree 'cause linda was 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 than yoko.
Macca performs Maybe I'm Amazed better in the 89/90, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 tours. I mean, every note is played noisier, louder and in a more enthusiastic fashion.
@Thebestbuddy1986 I disagree; I've heard Paul sing it on his 1990 concert CD "Trippin' The Live Fantastic" and he just sounded terrible trying to shout the high notes ("you're the only woman who could ever help me"). He ruined his own song that way. In this 1976 concert, it sounds like he wisely pulled back from those high notes when his already exhausted voice couldn't hit them. This performance was released as a hit single in 1977.
@richartrod Come on, maybe the voice doesn't sound good (for you, not for me), but the guitar, drums and keyboards are far better on Trippin', Back In The US and The Space Within Us. Compare Wix with Linda, she wasn't even a musician.
@Thebestbuddy1986 Yeah, Linda herself admitted in the program for the 1989-90 tour that in Wings she was the worst musician, and was only in it at Paul's insistence. But looking back at a historical context, that's kinda fun. I mean, what other big-time arena rock band of the 70's had a chick in the lineup, and the lead's wife at that? :)
I was at this concert. Age 18 and very, very high. Sadly, I couldn't keep my hand out of the medicine jar in my teen years. I was standing behind the stage and Paul stared at me for what seemed like a long time while he was singing at the piano. I think because I looked so very wasted!
@HoraceLime Reply:Really couldn't remember that much detail. I was stupidly loaded! Fortunatly quit puttin' my hand in the "medicine jar" a couple years later!
Paul and George were better than Lennon ever was... and Yoko finished him off. Linda was never anything bad to anyone. The real fact is that both Linda and Yoko came from old money, and their families had far more money than Paul or John could have ever had.
@shomesomethin --I dunno about that. Paul is worth over a billion dollars now and is on the way to being old money himself. John only had 150 million when he died, but Yoko has been shrewd and has amassed a tidy little sum of her own off of his recordings.
Awesome "Medicine Jar." Ever get the feeling with this and "Spirits Of Ancient Egypt" and "Go Now" that he gets a kick at singing back-up even though he's the headliner? Remember that, those of you who are artists. You don't always need to be the center of attention; sometimes your artistry depends on you stepping back from the spotlight ever so slightly.
First of all, a big THANK YOU to citycity49 for posting this great show. I have wanted to see it for decades and at last I've found it!
I saw this tour in '76 in Kansas City. I was 14 at the time. I had to go to school the day tickets were sold so my mom went and stood in line for me. She never got close before they sold out. BUT, she was a radio contest fanatic and she won two tickets for me by being the whatever caller!
This show really set the standard for concerts for me!
@erestube What a great story. The '76 tour was Wings at the top of their game. (Who didn't own a copy of "Speed of Sound?!")
It was also a pretty good time to be a kid...save for some of the bad fasion. (Mom tried to force me into a leisure suit...and for that I never forgave her.)
My mom 'chaperoned' my brother and 2 friends to see this movie when we were grade school age. We bought the tix with our paper route money. It was playing as a double feature with Let It Be, at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh. For us at the time it was as good as being at the show. Thanks Mom!
I remember reading Angus Young named Jimmy McCullough (sp?) as one of his biggest influences. Not to be confused with Henry McCullough who was in Wings years earlier, who graced Pink Floyd's DSOTM album with his dialogue.
When I was a kid (and nerd Beatle Freak) I was pretty vocal about my disdain of Lynda being on stage and in the studio with the great Paul McCartney (hated Yoko, too).
But in retrospect, at least with Lynda, I now figure "what the heck."
Arkady63: Read almost any Beatles bio or read Danny Fields' bio of Linda. I have and I've come to the conclusion that Linda probably saved Paul's life after the Beatles break-up. And the same goes for Yoko. Ever hear of the group "Badfinger" and the tragic aftermath of their split? Without her he'd have been another washed up rocker drowning in a pool of his own vomit. I am the nerdiest Beatle freak in the world and I accept this as fact.
@NicNac13c Badfinger's big song was "Day After Day."
But you can say whatever you want. All my life I'd thought that Lynda was an eye sore and one of the two women who broke up history's greatest musical duos.
I guess it's just because I got older that I think "well, what the hell."
Btw, I'd learned recently that John considered reuinting with Paul and was talked out of it by that talentless Japanese horror.
But it's all a moot point today and well in the past.
did I ask you what Badfinger's big song was? No... And it's "Linda" not "Lynda." And Danny Fields mentions that John story in the Linda bio, but it was John who decided not to do it for whatever reason. It was Paul who actually got John and Yoko back together after John's "Lost Weekend". But, as you put it, "What The Hell." Linda was not an eyesore. She was a truly beautiful person inside and out and it's too damn bad you're too ignorant to see that.

Paul was angry with the boy that sung Medicine Jar... Paul starts to play maybe I´m amazed while the boy was still talking...
Maybe Paul have decided to be a solo artist after that...

@acepipe123 what are you talking about? Jimmy looked down at his pick-up and stepped away from the mic, so Paul started playing. Watch Wingspan.

I dont think Linda refers to their break up as opposed to Yoko. She was the main reason.
I know she opposed to the reunite but Lennon had to have his head. It*s pity he didint use it often.
