  • It's sad that 3 million people watched the first part but only 8% of that watch the whole speech. Bill Gates is truly a remarkable man and his message should be spread around all of the world.

  • He is pointing out the future science: Economy, Education, Environment but specially Social Studies in a new level to make a impact in media, politics and society. "Don't let complexity stop you" Dr Gates has given his contribution for this Harvard generation, they now have more technology than he had in his own past..Lesson of dignity: "How well you treated people a road away that have nothing in common with you, but their humanity.." That said He nails down the snob perspective of live....

  • good speech !!!

  • YOU ARE MY GOD

    BILLS GAT

  • this guy is a genius! Gates addresses the real issues in life and not the evils like materialism and money. He is spot on we all have the chance to change other peoples lives and end poverty.

  • @leinsterUltra

My brother, your comment is the only thing that made my heart holler.

Bless your fingers for typing that resounding comment...

Much Love for you my brother....

  • Bill Gates for U.S. President!!!!!!

  • lol watching this audience and higher ups of Harvard, and then wondering why our politicians are the way they are? What the heck is wrong with us??

  • in defense of the people dozing off, while at any Ivy League institution you will hear so much about the developing world and how to help it, that most of what Gates says is very familiar. and this part of the ceremony is at the end of a few days of ceremonies full of very similar speeches. it's true that Bill Gates is the only one who actually did do the most of all the people lecturing, but what he says is not that new. one of my econ profs from Columbia is at Occupy Wall Street with the crowd

  • Humanity! Bill Gates = Good man. Notice how all individuals that have reached all these great accomplishments care about SOCIETY improving as a whole. Its a big reasoning behind why they do the things they do. ITS A SIGN PEOPLE IF IT WORKED FOR THEM IT WILL WORK FOR YOU.

  • Yeah, that's right. Up off your asses.

  • Fuck the actual audience. He is talking to US.

  • If you've lasted this long, well and good. Now you see the crowd clapping!

  • I wouldn't want his money but i would like his potential to do good. This man could change the world.

  • you just have to admire the man and his efforts. it's inspiring and hopeful but looking at his audience it looks like it has mainly fallen on deaf ears.

  • when you hear this man and steve jobs(rip) talk, its like "why didn't they team up and come up with a political party"

the system would have turned them down!

  • soul stirring...

  • Thank God for YouTube that the charge that Bill issued is no longer exclusive to that graduating class but could be shared across the world!

  • @TshaFromTWest you said it; i thought it haha!

  • Respond to this video... the woman behind him looks literally disgusted & offended by what he's saying lol. like, 'how dare he!'

  • Disease: Capitalism.

But students of a capitalist-production-factory will not recognize this.

  • I almost teared when watching part three. I became angry, however, because of these people. They seem to not care at all. Not one bit.

It's not difficult to grieve, give empathy, or help human beings that die needlessly via power and greed. This man is trying to convey just how easy this sort of problem is in terms of solving it, yet it seems very little listened to what he said and meant, and probably far fewer changed themselves after this speech. Sad...

  • The greatest speech I have ever heard, I just wish more people seemed interested. It's certainly inspired me.

  • dont let complexity stop u......

  • appreciable...hat off bill gates......it is inspiring....rather dan talking abt himself, he talks abt worlds......

  • 2:26 "For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required." -- Luke 12:48

  • in response to some of these comments, maybe the crowd is reacting this way is because this is a long, boring speech. I came to listen to Gate's speech, after listening to Jobs 2005 speech which was inspiring.

I took about until about 2:27 for me to regain interest in the speech after I lost it in a previous part.

  • That bitch in the back is so sleepy

  • its like 208,386 people watched this video but when you go on to a kesha video (no offense Kesha) its in the millions. Everyone knows about music fason and celebs, but you ask whats going on around the world of even in our own gov, you get a ...i dont know.. Then someone like Dr Gates comes along and his one care is to save the world. give it all away.

  • That is true wealth! Not just to have money but to have character and richness of humanity.

  • here is a hero of our times, where is the media?

  • OK ... time to go back and like every single one of those vids!

  • @jenningsbg Just did the same, thanks for the idea

  • thumbs up if "inequity" is beginning to get annoying ...

    apart from that beautiful speech

  • Asking harvard students to help the poor? lol

  • He's such a great guy.

  • Gates is not only a visionary in the iNFORMATION AGE but a global icon on philantrophic ideals. A truly remarkable man.

  • @emailnikyeowkyeow yes, he is. With his resource, he could choose whatever lifestyle he wants but he chose to do charity. Just amazing.

  • harvard graduates rarely end up being activists.

  • wouldn't have expected any better from soulless harvard students

  • I watched Bill's speech after Steve's Jobs @ Stanford and I have to say that, they differ a lot, however when listened to after another, are making a new sense. After Steve's I feel motivated and ready to change something and then this one pointing out what should I, or at least try to, change. Loved it.

  • @NoobKillerSM both are great in their own way... though I prefer this one a tad better...

  • A true samaritan. I wish we could end world hunger & poverty in our lifetime.

  • @Gammodore Me too! Let's don't give up on that wish!

  • yawing bitch

  • holy crap this is long

  • KEEEERMIIIIIT :D

  • He should go to non famous uni's and remove the elitism hype crap that is oxbridge and harvard etc -____- he is a paradox evil son of a bitch :D:D sleep well bitches!

  • Stupid bitch in the back JUST cannot STOP yawning. Bill should infect her comuter with a virus

  • @therifletower or just give her vista lol :)

  • His whole speech got me feeling too emotional..a true leader.

  • May God Bless Mr Bill Gates. And I hope to listen from him about what he means when he spoke "Creative Capitalism".

  • Richest man with the biggest heart for humanity...God didn't make a mistake in handing him his blessing because he knows that he will surely hand it down to others...May God Bless you more Bill and your family!

  • Wow! Who knew Mother Teresa could look like Bill Gates. I think the world is a better place multiple times because of Mr. Gates. Unbelievable!

  • who put that yawning lady in the stage?

  • i swear if that bitch yawns one more time, I'm gonna find her and slap the 10 layers of eyeliner off her face. She doesn't even cover her mouth...

  • @chillaxer87 That is really a bitch, f~~k

  • It is quite angering to see the amount of uninterested expressions on people's faces within the audience. Although perhaps it does reflect that Harvard, similarly to many other 'Ivy League' Universities/Colleges, have become a club for the rich and privileged rather than a resource for those few who really do care about changing the lives of the less fortunate in an effective effort to advance the world. The amount of self-interest and self-importance is worryingly all too common amongst them.

  • @leinsterUltra

Thank you for saying exactly what I thought I was seeing. On the wake of Steve Jobs death I am going through the speeches and am inspired by their words but uninspired by the expressions you observed. Mr. Gates may not have the speaking skills Steve Jobs does or did, but I would be on the edge of my seat listening to him if I were there.

  • @mrstarstuff for the same reason I came here, and I found it very touching. And the most important thing is, he works as the role model. My disrespect to the apparent uninterested expressions, but I do hope they will reflect on this in the future.

  • @leinsterUltra I agree

  • @leinsterUltra because he's speaking of what is common in the minds of harvard people, it just reinforces and dramatizes the feeling of thoughts from a world reknowned marketeer.. Bill Gates

  • truly a moving speech, especially the end.

  • With the iCloud from Apple, microsoft, bill gates and the clown (steve ballmer) are screwed

  • I wish someone had SLAPPED the lady in the background who keeps yawning every 5 minutes.

The "interest" shown by harvard graduates in this enlightening speech of mr gates assures me that all these problems are gonna stay with us for a really long time.

  • So much respect for him

  • Blessed Bill "reducing inequity in the world is NOT the highest human achievement." It is "eliminating injustice, within man himself." This is the paradigm narrative of our age, that is man's redemption, wherein the paradigm is Moshiach. Omission of one's authentic identity WAS the sin of man's exile NOW ended." This WAS man's exile of mind, and false identity, Ending this is the redemption of man, as delivers individual SALVATION. This is the ONLY solution. Blessings, Yehoshua Ya'acov

  • Genius! So much respect for him

  • They probably expected a 'show me the money' speech... Good for him.

  • The lady in the back ground yawning did you see it? Bill is teaching wisdom

  • Sounds like his mother had the right stuff and passed it along to her son.

  • fucking amazin... i was shocked at how good this was! much respect

  • he isnt a humanitarian! he made windows 7....

  • @skoobmaster He is BECAUSE he made 7. If you had said Vista you might have a point

  • @1stPlaceDirector I get your point but being born and having lived for 22 years in a 3rd world country, I'm pretty sure the worst problems your people and your country have had would not hold a candle to the poverty in the 3rd world. People eating off garbage cans. 250 people sharing a single toilet. Entire islands without electricity. Sex slaves and child prostitution. If someone in the 1st world doesn't have a job, he can at least get welfare or flip burgers.

  • @danimoth2 You have a point, but, to a degree. You can't generalize regarding so-called solutions for any individual, as there is extreme and brutal poverty in existence in the United States, as well. Most people around the world are not aware of it, because there is often this blanket view of the United States as affluent from coast to coast, however, that is a fallacy born of ignorance.

  • Bill Gates should look more at how little he pays American workers. Insiders know that he outsources over 50% of Microsoft's workforce. He hires part time to avoid paying benefits to all but a select few. He also hires as many foreign visa workers at substandard wages as possible, to save from paying normal wages to engineers, etc. Helping 2rd world countries is fine too, but lets not forget about our own people here in the US. Right now, we have a very high unemployment rate and we need jobs.

  • @1stPlaceDirector You do realize he doesnt work at Microsoft anymore, right? He also made very few business/financial decisions at Microsoft, Steve Ballmer did. Bill Gates is giving away all of his money to Charity after he dies, and throughout his life, his children I believe will only get a few Million of the $80 BILLION he is worth. Read up on him and Warren Buffet giving away their fortunes.

  • @hawk130lb Hello, I follow Bill Gates very closely and all of the things you mentioned are extremely basic and common knowledge to the general public. I'm an industry insider and I follow what happens within the industry, as well as what the Gates Foundation and Warren Buffet does. That's why I made the comments that I did. They were not frivolous comments, they were inside knowledge of the industry from an American IT worker's perspective. I hope this helps you understand my perspective. .

  • that letter from his mom is just like the famous line from the Spider-Man movie: "with great powers comes great responsibilities." Great speech, Bill!

  • at 0:36, the women behind bill is yawning -.-

  • Indeed a great man sharing his thoughts. Feel inspired to taken on deep global complexities.

  • This is one of the greatest speeches ive seen.

  • The secret of success is really in his speech, saving life! But most of them don't take it seriously, that why their still not a billionaire!!! I was touched when i heard abouthis speech! Gates I respect you to the fullest for saving life!!!

  • you will answer with your policies

  • I think alot of the audience hadn't expected to hear this but realized the importance and gravity of what he was saying as the speech progresses, and realize that the significance of their role in his challenge could far outweigh that of making themselves alone successful or wealthy. Gates should be commended for taking the opportunity to make a speech like this.

  • Many people have made comments about how the audience didn't care about his speech. I don't think that is true. The problem is, the longer speeches go on, the less people try to "look interested" and instead just listen. On top of that, you have a sales speech about an issue that the speaker is passionate about. The crowd knows this. These people, who are intelligent, now have to concentrate more on the speech to evaluate it, leaving very little energy for "looking interested."

  • It is said, 'u can only fake it to an extent'.

It seemed right from d heart!!! I m impressed !!!

  • is cambridge better than harvard?

  • @Akedemix059 yeh it is

  • @yumyumintumtum oh kl

  • aaaaaaa, this was so boring... now see steve's speech at stanford, maybe then you'll understand the difference. a great man will drive and inspire people, not bore them to death.

  • part 1 seen by a million , part 2 of the speech has 400 k views , then educes to 200 k and by part 5 , its 140 k ... that gives a more powerful message than the speech itself

  • I found very interesting the way Bill Gates finishes his speech exhorting graduates to help people who didn't have the same opportunities .

"From those to whom much is given, much is expected...."

  • Steve's Ballmer face is so funny!

  • But it is fucking sad that actually there are people who is worth living than the others. I never save a life but i still think that: i'd rather leave a sicken kid dying than save him then 10 or 20 years later, he turns out to be a fucking murder or a rapist.

  • Much respect.

  • Should our best minds be more dedicated to solving our biggest problems?

Should Harvard encourage its faculty to take on the worlds worst inequity?

  • preach much, noob

  • @0:35 cold hearted selfish bitch detected

  • "an informed conscience that will torment you, if you abandon these people who's lives you could change with modest effort."

  • It's so funny how on the one hand America is fucking up the world and on the other they want to make it better.

Here's a solution Bill, stay in your fucking country and stop interfering.

  • All the conservative fucks were all bored. They were like we don't care, and wait who is this guy?? Opps its the richest man in history. We truly are shit.

  • I´m speechless.

  • Don't let complexity stop you :), thats what I will take from this speech.

  • How fortunate the world is that such a powerful individual is so enlightened. Aside from the members of the audience who were seen to be sleeping through this, I'm sure a good many were also moved to determined action.

  • I always hated Microsoft for what they did to gain market share. As a result never really liked Bill but this speech has changed it all. I salute the efforts he is taking towards humanity. He has touched me and I will try to do what I can and where I am.

  • he could have turned as Mr Burns (simpsons) but he kinda ended up turning like Bono (U2), glad to see money didn't took all the good from him

With all his donations to health care causes he deserves a special mention

  • 2:36 watch the guy on the lef

u can see the phoniness of these people right there ...

  • @aquarius198 true

  • @aquarius198 This guy on the left is Steve Ballmer. He is Microsoft CEO and Gates friend

  • @aquarius198 This guy on the left is Steve Ballmer. He is Microsoft CEO and Gates friend.

  • apla arxodas

  • I respect Gates for making this speech, because it isn't what these graduates wanted to hear on graduation day, and I can tell he knew that. It took guts to not make a speech involving praising the class or cracking jokes about their futures. He gave a honest request for them to take on the challenges facing mankind and to reduce the inequity of the world. What a beautiful speech, it's a shame many of the audience did not pay attention to it...would have expected better from Harvard.

  • @IPawnt bit of a buzz kill though right? A hot day with someone droning on and on and on and on and on about it. Think of a time you have been intercepted by someone in the street trying to tack you down for a minute to pitch their charity to you, doesnt take an ivy league education to work out what you would do 90% of the time?.. just saying

  • @maxmadx just to add that I like Bill Gates a whole lot more after watching this.

  • @IPawnt unfortunately, most of the graduates, even in the best universities are only those who struggle for their degrees. they are not individuals like the geniuses of our world, but conformal students, that learn from books and dont have an understanding of the world.

  • @IPawnt

i wouldnt expect anything better from any1 in the US.. i wish i could, but i have seen the brightest of the US leaders and they wouldnt pass elementary school in any country in europe

  • @IPawnt It is an honor to be a contemporaneous of Bill Gates and listen to this wonderful man. Now we should pass to action. Cristina from Portugal

  • That women @0.38 yawns in all video man, dumb b***h.

  • @ashokbabuasp Yes why is she in the podium in the first place, she's a big embarrasment, some people actually do that intentionally to make it look like they're above it all, nothing impresses them, yes what a bitch

  • Some people are too lazy to get up

  • It makes me wonder about why people are so upset about jobs going over seas, when that low paying job is a middle or sometimes even upper class job for someone. That guy in india that answers your phone that you hate, that is middle class job for him, he had to interview with thousands to get that job, so that he can eat. Then those same people talk about how the world is a horrible place and no one helps each other out. People need to think beyond themselves.

  • @bluefootedpig

that is a major reason why indians are getting bashed in the western suburbs of melbourne. they want to earn 10 aud per hour at supermarkets so they can maintain and get a job.

  • zzzZZZzzz...

  • @RyuHanamichi You're ignorant.

  • All from a kid who's a Harvard dropout and who's hair needs combing!

  • Money Or Gold does not have any Intrinsic Value.

Mind & motivation are more worthy than money.

Gold itself can't solve our problems but our combine effort can!

If u have extra food give it to needy!

    My Motto:

Moral Values are greater than Monetary values!

I totally agree with Bill's Mother,

"From those to whom Much is given , Much is expected"

"If u are more respectable in society, than u have to be more responsible"

  • I ask a very basic question to all the people in the world. Is this world a Paradise or Heavens that we invite our children here (I mean by producing them)? Are they coming to a better place or state than they already are in? Is it not total selfishness, indifference & casualness that just for our own happiness, wants, desires or needs we bring them here to face an ugly life knowing that this world is a horrible place? Do we really love our children? Do we really care for them?

  • Do we really want their betterment?

  • God bless Bill Gates! He's doing wonderful work and he delivered a very important speech here. Too bad the majority of the crowd looks like they're not even paying the least bit of attention. They look so disconnected, bored, unmoved, and totally uninterested in what he's talking about. Look at them yawning, chit-chatting, napping, fidgeting, chewing gum, day-dreaming, etc. They should be ashamed of themselves; especially the ones sitting directly behind Bill, knowing the camera is on them! SMH

  • Steve Balmer looks bored in the background

  • Bill Gates: End-of-Life Care vs. Saving Teachers' Jobs

the lovely bill gates advocates eugenics etc copy the above search and listen to this

also you can rid people of malaria within 4 hours (spontanious remission lol) using chlorine dioxide which the guy who discovered this called jim humble wrote to the bill and melinda gates trust and the world health organisation to declare his findings but they didn't want to know search jim humble camelot project. by the way i am a researcher

  • how well u treated people who have nothing in common with u but the humanity!

    beautifully ended!

  • lol steve ballmer is trying so hard to stay awake

  • lol, why do they keep filming people yawn?

  • Bill Gate is the True Genius and Smart person I have ever seen in my Life. Good Luck with your journey. He Inspires me to be the person I really want to be in the future with the Help of God.

  • We are lucky that Bill Gates is such a great man.

  • This tells why America is a Great country to live, as being an Indian I wish our retarded politicians can learn something from this. I know its easy to speak but I have seen cases where even millionaire politicians asking for bribe from the poorest people to do their work.

I really admire his work and really admire Bill Gates as individual.

    God Bless you

  • so inspiring. just awesome.

  • 0:35 the bored housewive yawn

  • I'm in love with this guy, not in a gay way, but I'm still in love :)

  • wow

  • this is to officialsanw, i hope your wish does not come true because in that case bill gates would make so much less money and would not be able to have the effect and help he has as now

  • all i can think of is Bill gates for President. world would be a better place

  • Most people are focused on material wealth, illicit activities and boasting about how important we are let alone spend time and money helping impoverished nations. It’s ironical. Wherever you turn there is corruption. Fundamentally we need to change ourselves before we can change the world.

  • Its all about saving people, we've heard the message.

  • Finally The End!

  • steve ballmer looks like one angry mofo

  • A good speech started well but it was the end which should be adhered to.

  • Look at that ass Steve Ballmer!

  • bill gates is legit. never knew

  • "Should the world's most privileged learn about the world's least privileged?"

There are so many quotes in this speech that is sad but true and it is really a reflection of what the world is today. Bill Gates is taking the first step to solving a difficult problem ... which is to try and solve the problem. Because if we don't try then we can be sure that the problem will definitely remain there.

  • Bill Gates is a great humanitarian. How he still doesn't have a Nobel Prize and Obama does is beyond me.

  • @pologrltek Because Obama killed Osama binladen

  • Hahaha....

    Started from a say

    In a funny way

And ended with a touchy day

  • awesome speech. Bill Gates really is a man you can look up to. Those are rare these days.

  • the person who keep yawning is kind of rude...

  • @agentdreyer

i learned ass a priviledged kid when i lived in iran that it seems to be something genetical that some people just don't care about the less priviledged people. And others make up excuses based up nothing. You can see that many harvard people are sleeping when gates is talking. sad really.

  • I wish more good, rich men would make fixing and sustaining the worlds' environment their main focus of their great mind and great wealth. There will be no point in Humanity, without air to breathe.

  • Definitely one of the best speeches I've ever heard.
