  • Is this what happened at the cocaine plant before Robocop came busting in there?

  • Who was singing?

  • 5 people have no taste in 80's music.

  • I tried to buy an '85 Duster, but it's impossible, like the '90 Dodge Shadow, or the '73 RX3 wagon, these are cars that can't be had. Ironically, I can write a (admittedly, fat) check for an effing TUCKER right now and have it in my garage by morning. And they only made, what 45 of those? I can buy a Dusie or Moon or Davis and have it here tomorrow but I can't have an '85 Duster? Car collecting is awfully weird.

  • @DrEckener Not impossible!

  • great vid..loved it..now i want a duster

  • You are right. The 80's were the coolest decade of the 20th century. The 70's are in a second position.

  • @MrColtSeavers yeah, and the 90's in third I think :)

  • Oh man that was rad!

Two things to make it better:

1: That a higher quality version of this video is found and uploaded.

2: That there was an extended version of this song!!!!!!

  • Even in the 80's, this was an unpopular hideous machine!

  • 70's dusters are 10x better

  • Why is it not so today?

  • I.. lived through this. Wow.

  • "It was the 80's, and everyone was doing so much cocaine." I think I agree with that.

  • I wanna see a full epic rock opera dedicated to some product.

  • @x790z That was actually the tach. Some cars in that era showed two digit numbers instead of one, and consequently the display said "Revolutions per minute x 100" instead of "x 1000".

  • It's a crappy econobox. Really crappy and a disgrace to the "Duster" name. But this video actually makes it seem like a pretty cool car. This commercial is an Epic Win.

  • 0:44 Early Zoolander?

  • I remember seeing this commercial on MTV.

  • These cars are the grand motherload of shit.

  • only in the 80s would you find a musical commercial for a car!!!!!! o those days need to come back!!!!

  • WOW!

  • :44 Don't throw cocaine in the air, it's expensive

  • Can anyone post the lyrics please?

  • This is the best awful video EVER!!! Honestly, as ads go, it's a pretty cool idea... I find myself walking around singing "In my Duster... MY DUSTER!"

  • @superamerica1981 Its just that compared to any other decade the 80's ('73- the early 90's) were a bad time for cars period. While the styling is personal a judgment power was killed as cars got smaller and simpler. i think your thumbs up are more about blasting a 80's song about your 80's car. id was all about the song El Camino Man while i had my '73 Elko

  • I had a 88 Dodge Daytona base, whis was supposed to be much better than this Duster. The quality of Chrysler cars wasn´t the best (sorry, Iacocca, but I have to be honest). I don't really think these cars are shit, but their manual gearboxes are pieces of the same stuff (pieces of shit, that's it). After all, these Charger/Dusters came out from ugly econoboxes (Omni/Horizon).

Iacocca was GREAT in the 80s, but these cars weren't. Cross my heart!!!!

  • They couldn't work Iacocca into this ad somehow ?!!!

  • i cant beleive i watched 30 seconds of this....

  • Damn that '76 -> dusters are ugly, but brilliant ad

  • I had a 1986 Duster that I bought new in graphic red. I added shelby reverse daytona wheels, anti-sway bars, rear window luvers and a pile of engine chrome parts. It was a great car for the first few years but mechanically it did not age very well. You don't see many still on the road today.

  • I love this commercial. Back in the day, I had the 4 door version of this car. What a piece of...

  • 80s rules

  • I haven't seen one of these in a long time.

  • Now that's stuck in my head all day.

  • At the time of this commercial's airing - Chrysler's 10,000 day calendar for decoding how old their 1985 models were would have started at serial # 8374 (July 1, 1984) and would run through that of serial #8738 (June 30, 1985).

  • "Animal"! Very "crasy"!

  • You don't know how many times I have cracked up to this!!!!! :)

  • This was filmed in a cocaine factory

  • I woke with this in my head this morning.

  • Why did they have to desicrate the duster name? Anyway i like the part at .35 Where she has her friends riding on the outside of the car ,then she guns the gas. Psycho chik.

  • Back in the day, I had the 4 door version of this car. What a piece of...

    Great commercial, tho.

  • Hey the chic prancing around in this vid has her own page here. It's Redfistaor. She must be old now.

  • Where in the name of all that is holy and good can we find a hi-res version of this? Who wrote this song? This is 110% better than a-Ha, Duran Duran, Berlin, put together. Also this is the best video of the decade, if no the triumph of cinema. Do I have to drive to Auburn Hills and extort the original copy from Chrysler execs?!

  • Need higher Resolution. this is better than Duran Duran or A Ha any decade.

  • Need higher Resolution. this is better than Duran Duran or A Ha any decade.

  • I remember when this commercial was originally airing. My immediate thought was, "wow, hot girl...too bad about the car, though." They didn't even use an attractive, bright color for the car in the commercial. It just looks so drab and uninteresting, but then they try to dress it up with an MTV music video style commercial around it. The commercial didn't air long, I think I only saw it maybe half a dozen times before it was pulled.

  • What was the Dodge version of this special package?

Plymouth in 1986 was supposed to have its answer to the Shelby Charger, under the famous Barracuda name, but Carroll Shelby said no because if his Dodge model were sold as a Plymouth, being more a value brand, it would cheapen the magic.

  • OH MY GAWD!!

    What a super rad song!

  • jesus. 1980's?

  • @superamerica1981 nah i agree with you i love 80's cars

  • SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow this bring back some memories

  • 1985 - when homely women were hot.

  • This commercial proves that the 80s were better than the 2000s.

  • @Heegoop MUCH better than the 2000s

  • @superamerica1981 I agree with ya not only were the 80s a great time for music, movies, TV, fashion, toys, etc. the 80s were a great time for cars. You see the 80s was the BEST DECADE EVER.

  • Last yr of Duster was '76.

^This car is actually a Ply Horizon with specific options, then it's called a duster.

  • The Duster died after 1975!! RIP Duster!

  • Awesome!!! I would've bought that car just for that commercial!

  • MTV WAS COOL NOW IS SHIT

  • @zukomatico You are 100% correct, bro.

  • Gay commercial! No wonder the front wheel drive duster never caught on! LOL

  • I miss MY PLYMOUTH DUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;(

  • Now if the auto industry started making commercials like this again... cars would sell like crazy...

  • 80s rulesssss good commercial

  • @zukomatico Damn right the 80s RULE.

  • @Heegoop, yeah, it was a great decade by somebody who wasn't born until 3 years after this ad ;)

  • Respond to this video...

  • The 1980's. I had an 86 Duster Turismo about 17 years after this commercial. 2.2L non- turbo auto. It had simular looks to the fox body mustang (first thing I noticed), but with FWD and moped like horsepower. I killed mine trying to get it to spin the tires. It did after a few neutral drops. Repeated abuse spelled the end for that car. Kinda miss it now.

  • lol how far duster had fallen from the valiant based one.

  • @superamerica1981

I wish I lived in the 80s. I missed everything. Ronald Reagan, BackTo TheFuture, Neat Cars like the Mopars and Pontiac Firebirds, good music, TV and movies, oh...

  • @classicautofan1 youre are all the reason my friend all was cool in the 80s now pure sshit and plastic and bad quality

  • My first car was this one! Awesome! Never saw this before! It was (and still is because my late dad and my brother restored it) an awesome car! Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories!

  • the best decade 80´s

  • I loved this commercial when it first came out.

  • heh... it's amazing that no matter how flashy the commercial is, the plain look of the duster doesn't get any better. It's like putting a spinner hubcap from pepboys on a farm tractor.

  • Good video. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to dance above an underlit grate in an abandoned warehouse.

  • GREAT commercial i haven't seen it since I was a dancer back in the 80's! It's choreographed by Arlene Phillips who did "Can't Stop The Music" and several old Dr. Pepper commercials. Many of the dancers in this commercial are from her dance/recording troupe, "Hot Gossip."

    thanks for posting!

  • Ooh I love hearing the behind the scenes! Thank you for sharing!

  • i feel like i was born in the wrong generation sometimes (93) i like 80's music and i think the decade was good. i also liked the 90's because i was just a kid and had no worries. nowadays life's been hitting me pretty hard :( i can understand if people didn't agree with you but they shouldn't thumb you down for it either

  • @averagejustin

I was just thinking to myself the same thing. I should've been born 10 years earlier.

  • what the hell did people thumb you down for that's not offensive or anything...wtf i'll thumb you up lol

  • Wow... why do I suddenly want one of these cars, even today, just to have the one that was in this epic commercial? It's too bad car commercials aren't this good anymore.

  • @TheEqualyzr I wouldn't give a fwd Duster to my worst enemy. The car commercials these days may not be as good but the cars are worlds better.

  • Eightiestastic!

  • I think I just got Boneitis from this commercial. Also, why is my nose bleeding...

  • this is how you sell a fucking car!

  • This is just too funny

  • an awesome body style

  • i think i can honestly say that if I ever found an 85-87 Duster in good shape i would buy it and find some way to play this song on full blast as I drove down the street.

  • yep, right past the west barrow baptist church

  • @averagejustin thats funny

  • haha...well said...so would i

  • dude i got one no lie we just guted it and we also got the 85 charger 2.2L

  • Every time I watch this I love it more!

  • This isnt a duster from the states.. maybe mexico that is like a omni or shelby charger style car not like the p-body sundance/duster

  • It's a Plymouth Turismo Duster, which was Plymouth's version of the Dodge Charger 2.2. It was sold in America, and was the second time Plymouth used the "Duster" name. The Sundance Duster in the '90s was the third use of the name.

  • alright thanks for the info I have never seen one of these but it was out before I was born.... It just looks like a Horizon tc3 or Omni 024 or Shelby Charger....

  • must...have...mp3!

  • Wow, a commercial in a cocaine factory. Must be the future though, because her Polaroid spits out an instant picture of her mighty fine car. God I miss the 80s.

  • A great marketing lesson in how not to take your placement too literal.

  • I owned the 1984 version, Turismo 2.2, great car, wish I still had it. I wish Chrysler still made Plymouth!

  • i have been singing this song to myself for the last 3 weeks, I love it!

  • In the 80s they knew how to sell cars.

  • You dont know me or my Mom, you just wish you did.

  • I was born in 83 and what I do remember about the 80's and what I see and hear now seems to me in my opinion the 80's must of sucked ass. Everything about it sucked, the music the clothing, the cars, everything.

  • No argument there. But, let's just say you're lucky to have missed the 70's too.

  • I'm guessing, everyone was high in the 80's?

  • 80's commercials like this has such warmth to it that no commercial today could approach. They were cheesy yeah but marketing was everything back then and people bought into whatever junk a company was selling. If it was good or a bad product .Could you imagine if they did'nt banned cigarette commercials??? In the 80's It would have be like this plymouth commercial and we'd be all dead lung cancer now lol!!!!!! God I miss the 80's

  • What a horrifying commercial. I'm so glad I was in diapers in the '80s.

  • 1st Annual MTV Video Music Awards Show -- WIN!

  • One of the coolest TV ads ever...Plymouth meets MTV.

  • If you notice at the very beginning of this clip it was run during the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards. I actually have this on VHS from that same night

  • Obviously created by someone on the drug of choice in the '80s. What's with the guy stroking her leg?

  • They barely show the car in the commercial. At this point, the body design was 7 years old. Pretty long in the tooth. Clearly, they were selling image, not the car. I don't think it worked cause I don't think many of these were sold in 85.

  • Style was the whole point of this car, too; the 5 door Omni/Horizon was actually cheaper. '86 was the last year for the coupe, the 5 doors lasted through '90.

  • '87.

  • just a glorified K car

  • The Duster was based off an entirely different platform. Contrary to popular belief, not EVERY 80s Chrysler was based off the K platform.

  • I think it aged well. The Omni/Horizon twins had a longer '78-'90 production run. Other cars had even longer production runs -- Volkswagen Beetle, Volvo 200 series, Renault 4. Chrysler had some of the most attractive designs in the 1980s.

  • I agree, it did age well. And it was one of the most practical coupes ever- but I did mean to mention that it was always more expensive than the 5 door (comparing cars with the same equipment). THAT'S what I meant by style being the whole point :)

  • Wow what a great ad

  • I think this commercial was aired only one time - during the 1994 MTV VMA's, as evidenced by the clip at the beginning of the commercial. For those of you who did not grow up in the 80's like myself, you really did miss out of the fun. Commercials, culture, and cars were like this.

  • Correction Davismv this commercial got played ALOT usually the shortened version of it. Yes that is Finola Hughes who got her start in the film "Staying Alive" with John Travolta(sequel to Saturday Night Fever") then became asoap star on "General Hospital" That's not her singing though? Might have to look in to that.

  • what song is that?

  • so is that polaroid camera at 1:04

  • especially with only 5 year/50000 miles

  • hey i know the ones in the 60s and 70s were much better but hey these were great to i loved these but hey i know i guess its my opion that i think these looked personally myself in 1985 i would rather buy a Plymouth reliant or dodge aries k

  • I've had an '89 Lebaron convertible, '90 Sundance 4-door, and a '92 Acclaim. Acclaim was the best. I wish I had another.

  • was the 89 lebaron any good???

  • No, it was a terrible car. Interestingly enough, all 3 had the same engine and transmission, the 2.5L 4cyl NA and 3-spd auto. The engine and trans were good in my Lebaron, but everything else was crap! Power top failed, windows fell off track, wiper arm assembly fell apart (and there is no fix!), cooling problems, faulty tach and odometer.

  • I heard that you have to sport a Tom Selleck moustache and gold chain in order to receive a license to drive the Lebaron.

Is that true, or just a myth?

  • Oh that's funny. I think you have to don a mullet and wrap-around shades to drive any of these cars anymore. It's only appropriate. ;-)

  • @SirLoinsalot82 not true. My dad had a lebaron in the early 90's. He looked more like Bob Seger from the mid-70's at the time he owned it. He now looks more like Hacksaw Jim Duggan from the late 80's, but with a grey beard.

  • @CamaroAmx See? This is why we have Internet discussions. Certainly glad I got that cleared up. :)

  • the 80 must have sucked thank god im a 1991 baby id commit suicide and that car looks like a fastfack dodge lancer

  • if you lived back in the 80s then you would have appreciated it... i mean human lifestyle is dynamic not static...

  • I had one of these. 2.2 non-turbo. Slow as dirt. Wasted the auto trans doing netural drops.

  • well that was what it was like back in the 55 mph speed limit days

  • OMG, this is awesome. Is that Finola Hughes?

  • I need to get one. I'll be so laid.

  • What a coincidence. I just finished watching 'Staying Alive" on vh1, and sure enough 2 hours later I come across this forgotten gem. This commercial looks like the film as well. Wonder if Stallone directed this too lol.

  • Looks like the kind of commercial you'd see today on "American Idol".

  • AWESOME-O!!!!

fuck! the 80's was an awesome decade. the hair, the music, the constant threat of nuclear annihilation.

    good times, good times.

  • Yeah - it's your Duster alright. You can have it.

  • Prime example of why the 1980s sucked big time.

  • THIS IS AMAZING

  • Anyone know who the person singing this was? I kind of want her to have my children, even though she's old enough to be my mother.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Finola Hughes from General Hospital. Not her voice though.

  • This...this is it...

THE greatest commercial of all time.

  • I really want to know if any lady's, actually wear there high heals to drive a manual transmission car, or any car at all. Oh BTW if any thing killed Plymouth it was this Ad, combined with the shear awfulness of the 1985 Duster.

  • No, we can't drive with high heels. That would be a wonderful way to die. Death by stilettos. And yes, terrible ad.

  • well you look closely she weiring heals when she drives off.

  • I get it. Plymouth was a great car and if Chrysler didn't hook up with Daimler, Plymouth would of still been around, and GM wouldn't of killed Oldsmobile if it wasn't for this.

  • What's that white powder? Cocaine? That adds a whole new meaning to the word "Duster"

  • This is the BEST 80's commercial EVER.

  • OMG, so 80s!

  • That's the difference between car commercials back then, and now. People back then were excited about American cars. Now, not so much.

  • My 87 Charger used to carry lots of plywood along with a 2 stage snowblower that fell out. Im surprised that it did not break the window! I remembered not to park it on an angle otherwise it would not start since the sending unit was on the side of the tank.

  • I had one of these. Mine was an 87 w/ the 2.2 non-turbo, black, auto. slow as heck, but kinda fun to drive. I wasted the transmission and sent to the junkyard.

  • did you mean to waste the tranny or did it blow by itself??

  • I remember the day this commercial first aired on MTV. Only saw it once, but never forgot this song. I'd love to acquire a high-quality copy of this song and video! Any ideas?

  • you're watching it now.

  • i can get one for you right now reply me back and ill get it for you
