This film, this music, transports those of us who grew up in the old Africa magically back to there, and then. Growing up in the African bush was very special. I wrote my story in 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!'
Great movie. Lovers of Africa appreciate it. I grew up in Tanganyika, later Tanzania, then went to a Kenya boarding school. I know the house in Karen, near Nairobi, where most of the film was shot. My book, 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!', the story of my own wild East African childhood, is doing well on Amazon, & as an Apple iBook & Kindle eBook. Short video on youtube, with original footage in the bush 1950's & 60's, under Speak Swahili, Dammit!
My favorite thing in is movie aside from the cinimatograph was the costuming. I love the clothing for the women, but I especially loved that Karen like to have her lovely things with her. The thought of china on a safari is pretty cool! I like to have my nice things with me as well. Shine on Karen!
Alguien sabe cómo se llama la canción que cantan a Dúo Finch Hatton y Berkeley alzando unas copas de cognac frente a Karen luego que esta los deleitara con un cuento?
Gracias
Anyone know how to call the song they sing to Duet Finch Hatton and Berkeley raising a few glasses of cognac in front of Karen?
If anyone heard the music of the spheres, it was you. You brought it down to our level, so that we might experience the divine put to music. Your sound tracks echoed in every place I called home, and in every car I drove. Surely, you were met at Heavens gate by an orchestra of angels, perhaps playing this, welcoming you - home
lush, simple, robust, full gorgeous.. what else. i have always loved this music and the composer is fantastic.. dances w/ wolves was just gorgeous music too, not cliche.. not over done just beautiful dignified music that made you feel the life of the continent
Superb concerto for clarinet & orchestra written by Mozart. This film reminds me Africa since I lived there several years during my youth. A certain nostalgia of course, nostalgia of an African childhood. I didn't have a farm, I just had innocence to share.
My name is Karen. When I was married to my ex-husband he almost never called me by my name. I, like the character in the film, so wanted to just hear my name. My now and forever hubby always calls me by my name or Karen-Karen. This is without a doubt my favorite movie, and this is my signature song. Thank you for making this music and video available.
I want to see your other music and videos. Keep creating. Many blessings, Karen
KAren , everyone who has been in Africa , in particulary in East Africa remains very attached to this part of the world ... this movie is not one of , but is my favorite as i'm now sure history and translation of the bible has been wrongmly done ... garden of Eden was'nt in between the Tiger and ERuphrates and Mesopatamia , but in this part of the world - no other movie would render this Paradise better than this picture .
I'm sure I would love it there. It seems like such beautiful country. From your comment I take it that you've been there. You must have really enjoyed this paradise. It is my hope that I am as expansive and open as this beautiful piece written by composer John Barry.
If you would like it , let me send you some pictures of Burundi where i was when i was young , Kenya , Tanzania , Burundi , Rwanda , are such wonderfull places except a few "peace" problems in certain region , EATS AFRICA IS EARTH'S PARADISE , you 'll see .
Realmente increible y q deja rienda suelta a la imaginacion para volar con esta cancion aya donde quieras sin duda es fascinante sin palabras es para disfrutar escuchandola con los ojos cerrados y sentir miles de cosas.........
The moment I heard this piece of music I fell in love with it, so much so I worked down the isle to it on my wedding day - the bridesmaids went first then I waited a while so that i reached the end of the isle just at the end of the music (it was a long isle) Needless to say there wasn't a dry eye in the house!
I was working in Kenya for 6 months at the time and must have seen this movie a 100 times on the Hotel video! The Music captures the magic of the place perfectly!
*heavy sigh* How beautiful this piece is! You can actually hear the sadness and passion and longing that was being felt. One of the few times a piece has moved me to tears...
Thank you for posting the music in such quality, I couldn't listen to it on the others even though it is beautiful, if violin isn't high quality it gives me a migraine and I wanted to listen so badly. I am crying, does anyone think this sounds like the music from somewhere in time with Jane Seymore and Christopher Reeves?
Hi Jen! I haven't seen this movie since the theater, can't remember what yr, it was so beautiful, and sad at the same time, but I had a migraine the whole movie. Can't wait to rent it now we trashed out 23yrold 25 in for a big screen, thats cool about ur sis!! I did go to the movie Somewhere, and the theme is also by JohnBarry and it does have some similiar sounds in it. another good movie.
LOL, did you see the recent videos of BJ? I have ears for them both Robbie's Angels is saved sev places, I even have it in my Gospel list which is private. BJ was real cute when he was young, but I never saw him until he was older except at a great distance, so it is really his voice that I am hooked on, heard his I'm Hooked on a Feeling' lol,

It's such a calming sound..it makes you want to lean on someone and forget about your three English projects that're due in a week..
Terrific if you're very stressed out, it makes you so mellow and relaxed and happy.. -starts to drool on her keyboard-
