I bought a fairly cheap (around $80) 8` 12 plait leather bullwhip and a six foot nylon whip from Dube. The nylon whip is far and away easier and was cracking from the very first go.

I`ve caught myself quite a few times with the leather one, and once with the nylon one. You generally go back indoors after doing that.

Please note this is a stock whip wich is much easier to manipulate, yet much more expensive from what I can find. Stock whips are great if you are just starting.

yes. in my opinion a 12 foot whip is too long. You cant do anything with it. I would get an 8ft whip. especially if its nylon. you can use the 8ft whip in places without hitting things. perfect if your on horseback.

depends if u want it to make an easy crackle then get a 8ft or a tenner but tbh i use a 12ft cuz im tall and cuz im use to it i get a crackle everytime

@Kaffyboy Acctually , you hit yourself in the prosess, It hurts, yes, but after a while of hitting yourself you get used to it, and overcome it, Do it slow at first, and then get faster. And a shorter whip such as a 6-8 footer are much easier than a 10 foot like mine.

@Kaffyboy it's actually kind of hard to actually whip yourself pretty seriously. when i first learned how to crack a stockwhip, when the whip hit me, it didn't hurt at all. just make sure that when you are learning, take it slow, and don't try anything that you aren't ready to do

@rockincaribbean When I first began using whips back in the '80s, I actually managed to flog the soles of my feet!! I'm not sure how I managed that, but I did, and it hurt! Of course, I don't do that any more. I still get myself occasionally though.
