  • Basically, anything involving information retrieval will make a really good case for clustering algorithms.

  • Get a book on Collective Intelligence. I have Segaran's book with working Python code.

  • Pathetic No information at all

  • 6:52 : "This can be done, you know, in one step, using lots of computation"

    ... ಠ_ಠ

  • Pretty girls shouldn't allowed to give talk on such topics, it required 4x the efforts to concentrate (I had to watch the video 4 times to understand what's going on... :-(

  • hèy_i_feël_sÒ_lØñÉlÿ_tODAÿ

  • These comments... smh. What's wrong with you people?

This video is good enough to get a general understanding of what clustering is. She even said that it's not an exhaustive discussion. There are plenty of papers and textbooks online if this isn't good enough for you.

  • She doesn't explain well... obviously she was totally unprepared for the presentation

  • Men cluster around her at Google... in constant time

  • Not up the mark, I think Aaron Kimball should have take this up instead of sierra michels...

  • Get a life, get a wife, or a girlfriend or something. Stop jerking off in public. Its just pathetic. Or, come out of the closet. There really isn't any need to overcompensate that hard.

  • To the retards who keep complaining for practical examples: I think we now know why you're watching it online, and are not at the presentation itself.

  • she is too attractive for me to focus on what she is talking about.

  • couldn't they find a better person to explain this material?

  • 1:10

  • Thank you :)

  • frankly, the ones she talked about are not too advanced algorithms, but very popularly accepted and practical, but we should learn like that rather than in the acadamic, where the old nerds always play the complex math symbols all the times, and add useless things merely because they feel that is formal

  • For a good explanation of canopy clustering, and why you might want to use such algorithms, check out the Wikipedia article on canopy clustering, and the McCallum et al. paper on the topic. Basically, anything involving information retrieval will make a really good case for clustering algorithms. For example, string matching a million names against another set with a million names, where many of them do not match exactly, but would be considered equivalent.

  • she is hot, i want to date her.

  • MapReduce is really cool...but I think the future is combining structured and unstructured data by integrating with scalable databases...that's how you can really popularize analytics - check out Aster Data for example, they just announced a MapReduce database.

  • She obviously understands the material, but cannot explain it in terms of practical application. I understood everything she said, but was constantly trying to apply it to the real world while she was talking. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the lectures in this series.

  • This girl can't explain anything.

  • I desagree with you super.

  • im totally lost..... shes worth a shou t though

  • So much easier than reading the publications on MapReduce.

  • It is really disappointing. She doesn't explain well neither clustering nor its mapreduce implementations. It looks like she was not prepared to give this talk.

  • how many retards are really viewing this? They pay attention to her rather than what she says

  • but she's so cute!

  • i don't doubt that but we should concentrate on what she explains and moreover comment on that.

  • Ok, as a comp sci professional who does *nothing* with search or set ordering I thought the talk was an interesting high level overview of some basic concepts.

With that out of the way I feel the need to mention that she's extremely watchable. It's not just that she's attractive, but she is well spoken and obviously very intelligent. Geek girls for the win!

  • by professional, you mean a high-school IT teacher, whos grades were around 14 and he choosed computer science because he wan't something simple with a "level"?

  • Hola...eres muy hermosa..No creo..Que nos conozcamos algún día..Pero quería decirte que me encantas..

Hello ... you are very beautiful .. I do not think we meet... But I wanted to tell you that you are charm ..and Your presentation was great

  • at around 21 minutes, it get very difficult to see the data on the screen

  • your a geek 2...

  • Very good presentation. She´s a very smart girl. I like: "questions?, no. Awesome", lol.

  • To commenters with more hormones than brains:

This is Joanna. She'll be following you around with an EMP cannon for the next year.

  • @jaiwithani Looks like a lot of guys will be hunting for notebooks with silicon-on-sapphire chips and tempested housings.

  • need some details like a lab project

  • I am pretty disappointed with this video. It advertises an overview of clustering algorithms with mapreduce, but fails to get into any useful detail at all.

  • And you gentlemen wonder why there aren't more females in our field.

Sierra, please ignore these mugs. Let's run away into the wilderness, a deserted mountain or island. We'll engineer new technology, new networks and clusters with tree bark and coconut shells. You'll map/reduce, I'll hunt/gather.

Your face is like a segfault in my soul, your eyes like beautiful twin optical lasers. You're gorgeous and graceful, I'm awestruck and agape. Good day, m'lady. Good day.

  • Surely it is people like *you* that ensure there aren't more females in our field?

  • @pixelatedpete

The reality is this: this young lady is hot ....when you are hot, you are hot. It does not take away the fact that she is intelligent, but at the end of the day, we (men and women ) are all animals.

  • creepy!
