Is it possible to get someone into "trance" or whatever you want to call it (open for suggestions that the victim will follow) just by playing an audio-rig and flashing some words or sounds? Derren brown statet in his own book that by being in hypnosis, you just play along. act because you expect something to happen + dont want to dissapoint yourself and the audience.
Try building yourself a strobe light device. Xenon light or pure light is better and can be switched faster than filament incandescent light and is more effective - try also typing "photoepilepsy" into google too. I used to suffer from it as a kid and a catatonic state that Derren uses is very similar to te bit AFTER an epileptic attack - be careful though !!

I don't think there was any coerceion. derren always gets his subjects to sign contracts - basically to say they are in full mental control of themselves beforehand. he also provides aftercare afterwards and makes sure that the participant is ok - thats fact.

Well I saw Derrens live show last night and it is possible to manipulate people without them knowing they are being manipulated. Go and se him live and you will see what I mean. It's worth every penny

Hey guys, i got a question and i also posted this in the "photobooth" video. Is it possible to get someone into "trance" or whatever you want to call it (open for suggestions that the victim will follow) just by playing an audio-rig and flashing some words or sounds? Derren brown statet in his own book that by being in hypnosis, you just play along. act because you expect something to happen + dont want to dissapoint yourself and the audience.

Try building yourself a strobe light device. Xenon light or pure light is better and can be switched faster than filament incandescent light and is more effective - try also typing "photoepilepsy" into google too. I used to suffer from it as a kid and a catatonic state that Derren uses is very similar to te bit AFTER an epileptic attack - be careful though !!

Yes they were created by John Langdon of Angels & Demons fame. He was asked by Objective to create them especially for the show. I think the picture is still on his site showing Derren holding both ambigrams as part of a pre-series promotional shot

After all, the terrifying taxi ride was so unsettling that this poor man was go glad a 'person' like Derren came into the taxi, and will obviously tend to want to agree with Derren at whatever suggestions he planted onto him (via some subtle form of persuasion/hypnosis). I mean he made this poor guy sign the contract before giving him a card choice that is not really a choice at all!

why do you say he is a "poor guy" - he signed up to be in the show of his own accord after seeing the advert. i would loveto know where Derren advertises I would be first in the queue. He had to sign a contract for legal reasons to absolve channel 4 / Objective Productions of any responsibility in the unlikely even of something going wrong. Derren did point out that he decides the trick or trat in advance and yes the cards make no difference whatsoever. Nothing wrong with that is there ?

This was an advert that didn't tell them what to expect (and after watching this programme, I am sure less people are inclined to fall into that trap if he puts one up again). A contract that will allow yourself to do whatever the producers/Derren want to do to you? Why can't they negotiate the contract in a neutral environment and not one that'll disturb/misdirect them to do so???

I don't think there was any coerceion. derren always gets his subjects to sign contracts - basically to say they are in full mental control of themselves beforehand. he also provides aftercare afterwards and makes sure that the participant is ok - thats fact.

derren obviously knew all along that some people watching at home would have worked out the 'trick' and 'treat' cards could be turned upside down. he didnt want to insult the audiences intelligence by never refering to it. this was probably the worst show of the 6, and showing the cards could be turned upside down was the best part.

Yes, the contract was signed, but the depth or scope of the "trick" was never explained to the subject. There is only one person who is resposible. and that is D.Brown. Gads! How I wish someone would give him such an extreme trick... or treat, or indeed, fear inducing torture!!

the problem is The Holy Grail is different depending on which country you live in - Rome claims to have it and so does Spain - two different chalices or totally opposing time periods. the hoax was woven very very cleverly into these time periods to add authenticity. Underneath it is a very clever hoax though. A programme was made about its creator
