Wasn't this song a staple for them during the human rights now tour?or at least while in south america?I use too have the live recording from south america when they toured with bruce springsteen and peter gabriel and tracy chapman.
"El pueblo vencera" - the village will overcome... Cool.. Great rendition of this song.. they should play it more often in concerts... thank you for posting!
@Adizaw1994 They only did a few snippets of it in South America on the latest 360 tour and the song was played in full 3 times on the tour - all in Europe.
@cheeseboxify: an extra verse: mother help me, mother remember me, mother pray for me, mother wait for me, mother support me, cant really undertand the last part except he ends it with, i know....the people shall overcome
@cheeseboxify From what I can tell (he does throw in some English there... some of it is just Bono-ese... he has a history of just uttering sounds that do sound like legitimate words in some songs during concerts... he does in Spanish quickly shout aloud "Mother help me, Mother wait for me"..
This song was inspired by mothers of El Salvador when bono traveled to El Salvador in the decade of the 80s. This is the true story of this amazing song. As El Salvador suffered a acivil war in the 80s.
Congresswoman Giffords woke her husband up in space w/ U2's "Beautiful Day." This one seems appropriate today... Bono: "If anything will live on after this concert, I hope it's THIS song, & the ideas behind this song." El pueblo vencerá= the villiage will triumph OR a people united.
I was there that night @ that concert in Tempe, Arizona @ ASU's Sun Devil Stadium on 12-20-1987. That concert moved me enough to vow to myself to learn more about local and global politics. Also, I had promised myself to myself to find the complete show from that night. Watching this video is an exciting experience since I get to see this for the first time, 12-20-2010, exactly 23 years ago from the filming! I'm a bit closer in piecing together the whole concert. Thanks Barcardicus
That concert moved me. I was there, Sun Devil Stadium, when this was filmed on 12-20-87, 23 years exactly to this day, 12-20-2010. Seeing this video was a nice treat that I've been waiting to see for a very long time, 23 years.
People,Remember the Message in this Great Song,Resist at ALL costs the creeping Fascism infecting our "Western" Nations,From The Tea Party in America to the EDL/BNP in Britain,Facism is on the rise and the Result will be the appearence of "Death Squads",Stay Alert !
Apologies for making a political point over your great upload but this is a political song warning about Actual victims of CIA Sponsored Fascism in Latin/Central America.
@DandRFilms1 ,I Take your point, you are probably part of the more sane side of the movement, but i have seen and heard enough of the "insane"tea party element to be on guard, that's all,or do you deny some of the elements in your movement are fascist ,maybe you do,Have you dug deeper into the origins of the tea party, its funding, donors, ideology,if you are comfortable with it all im happy for you,p.s.why do otherwise smart people like you assume contrary view holders are brainwashed,Fascist?
@thomasg74 Oh you have 'eh? I'm sure there are kooks in every movement. Take a llok at the G20 riots and the communists there... Just because there are a few stragglers that are nuts doesn't mean they all are. I don't think contrary views are brainwashed fascist... I think they are confused by the media who brainwashed them. This is a perfect ex. Most of the Tea Party are for smaller, less govt, so how could anyone conclude that they are for bigger more fascist govt unless they were brainwashed?
often u2 has been criticised for disarrayed imagery and the songs which are very social in nature dont point to any particular person....
well, this is the answer, the songs are made in such a manner that any man on any corner of the earth can relate to them..... there is not one el salvador incident and not one military regime.. there are several of them.. and songs of these gods of music provides an instant consolement to their souls
My God this is the most touching music.Like WD-40 and Duct tape, U2 is a product that will never die. Bono's ability to push his heart thru the microphone and make you feel what he is is second to no one.
My young kids ask me "Daddy what's your favorite color. and what's your favorite car or dog". As an adult we don't have favorite colors or anything. This holds true in every aspect of my life. I don't have a favorite food, drink, or clothing. When it comes to my ears U2 is by far my favorite!!! The passion and care for audience and issues in this troubled world overwelm me. If you can be a grown man with family and cry over this type of care for the trouble of your nieghbors. That's me!!!
@PlanoHorn Same here. I've had an audio bootleg of this show for ages, but never knew any video of it existed (beyond the parts that were used in Rattle & Hum) until now. Fantastic. Hard to believe it's been nearly 25 years since Joshua Tree!
This is incredible, I think they were mad not to have included this in the final cut of the film.

@thomasg74 Amazing that you would equate the message of less government from the Tea Party with more government intrusion... Talk about confused!
I'm a Libertarian and long time U2 fan who saw them in 1987 at the Omni in Atlanta during this tour. Shame the media has so many people brainwashed.
