  • good theme tune.

  • has anyone got the actual opening titles from ITV's coverage of Mexico '86?

  • Mexico86 for was the beginning of a beautiful time in my life. Like most kids at that time I bonded with my dad through football. So many years after we enjoyed many games together but this is where it all started. When football was football...played for nothing more than a love of the game.

  • I think i'm gonna cry :')

  • Awesome. I've wanted to find this song for ages. I never knew its name or that it was the theme for Mexico '86. Now I feel as though my life is complete!

  • I remember Scotland being there, The good all days.

  • 1986 Best World Cup Ever. Playing in the park from morning till sunset thinking I was Zico. Trying those Brazilian Free Kicks from 30 Yards and the best was the Panini World Cup sticker Album and spending all the pocket money not on sweets but on the sticker packs.

  • Ah hairs on the back of my neck this tune....tears...

  • it brings tears to my eyes mate im 40 now it reminds me watching it with my family and in them days i dont know but football seemed more enjoyable not all this money and celebrity crap..

  • This is glorious!

  • The best World Cups seem to be held in Mexico.

  • I've ALWAYS loved this tune, to the extent I find myself humming it sometimes when i'm concentrating on something, but cannot believe I haven't ever looked on here to find it before now!

I'm growing a MO for Movember and have named it Piqué after the Mexico '86 mascot, and found this whilst searching for an Image.

Thank you thank you thank you for sharing it...memories of the first World Cup I remember (aged 9) came flooding back.

  • Classic!!!!!!!!!

  • Cracking tune this, and I was too young to remember Mexico 86.

  • Saint and Greavsie. Credible football analysis from two real legends. Now, it's Soccer AM with a rough sounding barmaid and some knobheads yelling in the background, or Sunday Supplement with four fat middle aged hacks drinking orange, eating toast and talking about football agents.

  • @DarthCipient you're spot on pal

  • reminds of watchin a magical world cup and being inspired to go out to the field at the front of my house and play football from mornin til night...only stoppin for dinner..used to feel like maradona....reality soon kicked in

  • memory lane !!!!!!

  • anyone else really want sweet and sour chicken?

  • This is the ringtone on my mobile

  • St and greavsie mate

  • I think ITV used this for "the Big match" on Sundays from 1986 until Sky took over.

  • Great times

  • I've had this on my mp3 player for ages and everytime I listen to it I start feeling so happy :)

  • I was 10 and can remember being so upset after England got knocked out by the 'Hand of God' I can never forgive. Great theme tune though, i remember it well

  • saint and greavsie used this for years lol

  • Long live the memories of childhood of 1986, the finals, maradona, the greatest world cup ever

  • THE WORLD CUP OF GOD.. DIEGO MARADONA

  • I was 16. I can still see it ..Josimar, Denmark, Negrete, El Diego, Zico missing the peno, Socrates missing, Uraguay assaulting the Scots, Belanov's Goal, Lineker's hat-trick...Careca...Valdano, Burrachaga....Wold Cup music is so vital to deciding what channel you watch it on! ITV definitely won in 1986, The Beeb were the champions in '82 with Jellicle Ball. Since then....well...I kind of lost interest after '86!

  • The memories! I was 9 and i remember settling down in front of the telly with my dad to watch the matches. Good days.

  • same here mate same age too what a world cup glad i was a kid in the 80's!

  • Comment removed

  • same here mate i was only 15 glad iwas kid in 80s great song.

  • @OneJulianDicks So do I!!!!! :D

  • i remember this and saint a greavsie using it and i agree football meant more to me back then as an 8 year old great times!

  • Wow, the memories. Back when a world cup was special.

  • What is the drum machine at the beginning?

  • Comment removed

  • Mex '86 - you have to hand it to God !

  • It makes me sad that my own kids won't remember World Cups like I do, because the dregs that end up wearing an England shirt these days just can't be bothered.

  • This really is a beautiful piece of music which holds so many memories. I suddenly felt very emotional.

  • I am suddenly 11 years old. The A-Team wasn't a Hollywood film, students were asking Bob for a P and I had a Grifter bike.

    Happy days.

  • @teabagbob amen right with you

  • @Conky30 ::fistbump::

  • @teabagbob I had a Grifter bike, and the family car was a Vauxhall Cavalier MK2, How i miss the 80s.

  • @WAYNE1977100 I bet you played armies, made dens and watched "Why Don't You?" during the summer holidays, right?

  • I think I might have a little cry !!!!!!

  • what a splendid theme.

  • wasnt life better in 1986? i just seemed that way to me, this was a great world cup, maradonna what a legend!!

  • can some clear this up for me, this is definitely the mexico 86 theme? my friends convinced this is the argentina 78 theme??!!

  • @goldyn12345 yes its the 86 theme

  • I thought Russia would win it after they buggered Hungary 6-0, then they got booted out by Belgium. I was 11, i also thought Scotland would win. How wrong can you be? Great tournament though.

  • @alpacino1974ok

they was the soviet union not russia they was a mixture of russian, ukraine, belarus, and other nations

  • @linea04 dude it's football the only and only!

  • suuuuuuuuuckss

  • i was 22 years old in 86 and almost 25 years on it still makes me want to have a kick about. anyone up for a game

  • does anyne now where i can get a copy of this

  • @uptheglassboys if you copy the address, goto listentoyoutube dot c o m and paste it in it will save whatever you hear on the youtube post for that address as an mp3

  • @keefr72 how do i do that if you dont mind telling me

  • My god this takes me back! Bought this on a 7 inch single from WH Smith and still got it!!! Quality track! Used to imagine scoring a 30 yard winning goal against the Argies and everyone going mental whilst this was playing! lol!

  • best song ever!

  • ITV used this theme in the 1988 European Championships too.

  • F**k me! I'd forgotten this! I loved this tune. It was so good thought it was a real song! Going on a real nostalgia trip here listening to all the tv sports themes of the 80's. Happy memories from my childhood.

  • The most beautiful Wolrd Cup of them all. With out doubt

  • @jghatora1 - Spain 1982 was even better.

  • Yeah maybe. I think the top players lived up to their billing in Spain with the exception of Deigo Maradona. A lot of these opinions are just points of view as one can see their youth through a particular World Cup. I mean the World Cups of the 1980s would mean nothing to a lot of younger people.

  • @jghatora1 i agree mate this was my youth too i used to think i was socrates and then i loved eder and zico magical times never comig back :(

  • wow brings back my fav year 1986 , Miami vice, back to the future, top gun and this happy theme music luv it

  • Best days of my life!

Thought i was Maradona in the school Play ground happy happy days!

  • Sounds like a nintendo game

  • The world cup should be every 2 years not every 4 years, its too long to wait i need my world cup, come on Fifa change the rules every 2 years please..... vote up if you agree, lets hope sepp blatter sees this :)

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dats a blast from da past, lovin diss takes me way bak, reminds me of maradonna at his best

  • Great tune great world cup. Great memories. Thanks for the upload.

  • i used to love this in 86, remember this well as an eleven year old everyone was really hooked on the footie! havent heard this since then, brings abck memories

  • @memoir4you Hi, i was twelve years old and these were great memories for me i still have the pique toy from the kinder egg but it hasen't aged like me though lol. 80s were the best.

  • DONDE LA PUEDO CONSEGUIR

    ES MUY BUEN TEMA

NADA MAS LE FALTABA LA LETRA

    MEXICO 86 EL MEJOR MUNDIAL

  • que aqui nadie habla español o que

  • extraordinary tune, it's simple but likewise inspiring and moving

  • Aztec Lightening!

  • This brings it back! Ace

  • i think they used this as the theme to euro 88 as well. cheapskates lol

  • Great tune from a top world cup. They just dont make em like this anymore!!!

  • Got got got got got NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED and those bloody south koreans.

  • @england1413 ,School playground days, and you're right , when it came to a sticker you really needed it was neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed and wide eyed with it, wish i could go back, me and my 10 yr old are doining the 2010 album !

  • @calmster you're right, i was just a young kid but i remeber this iconic tune, i remeber seeing a little montage of maradonna skinning everyone in the 86 world cup with this tune playing!! quality!!

  • Starngely sounds familiar.. think my dad must have watched a lot of this

  • @johnwilliammatthews1 ITV used this music for Saint and Greavsie in the late 80's early 90's as well.

  • I wish they would use this today!!!

  • BBC version eats this alive

  • classic 80s beat

although shakiras is still the best jajajjajaj!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • pique, como olvidarlo

  • haha -- good

  • Simply beautiful!! When I was a child I got that tune all the time in my head!!

  • AMAZING the golden 80's

  • class...

  • thanks alot for postin got to be the best world cup song for as a kid brings back so many memories of me gettin me mitre delta cosmic footy as a kid after every england match.....classic..:)

  • 80!!!!!!

  • WHAT ABOUT THE ENGLAND WORLD CUP SONG...."WE'VE GOT THE WHOLE WORLD AT OUR FEET". THIS WAS THE SAINT AND GREAVSIE TITLE SONG I BELIEVE, FUCKING GREAT TUNE. xx

  • Oh!That high summer of 86',what memories.

  • Loved it. Beats the hell out of that cacaphony that the BBC used in their theme tune.

  • I don't know why, but this tune always makes me a bit emotional!

  • scousers say thank you diego maradona .fuck england.

  • @roadend78 not this scouser. bellend. you wanna try leaving whatever shithole house you live in and branch out a bit and stop being a scally loser.

  • @Noid111 there is a reason why scousers do not follow england as passionately as rest of the country, thats because they refer to themselves as scouse not english. 2nd reason is because of the Maggie Thatcher led Tory government of the 80's were she ostriched merseyside and its people at every opportunity.

  • @gazhughes30 it's all a bit self-pitying tho.we used to be second city in the empire and all that yet over the last 30 the picture of the scouse is one of some thieving scally. when I was growing up there was great pride in singing In My Liverpool Home. Now it's turned into regional masturbation with the accents getting thicker and thicker to show their separatism. glad I fuked off.

  • @Noid111 Scouse land is full of scum, they do fuck all for england look at gerrard what a joke he is shit, John Barnes did fuck all in 1990 compared to what he did for Liverpool in 89.

  • @iguanna41 i heartily agree my friend,merseyside is a TOILET.

  • Setanta Sports used this theme tune on May 30, 2009 for the FA Cup Final: Chelsea v Everton when introducing Saint & Greavsie specials on the channel.

I did like this tune ITV used from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. :-D

  • 2 words "Saint & Greavsie"! Didnt "the Match" as well on ITV use it on their credits when they used to show a live Sunday game back in the day (mid 80s - early 90s). its a great tune takes me back to when football was football!

  • @andrewt008 yer andrew i said that earlier when i posted about the music

  • tutti al mondo was better than this for italia 90 for itv

  • Although this is a great world cup theme it's not the best.

The best one is the Grandstand World Cup theme 1982 the theme used by the bbc & written by Andrew Lloyd Webber performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra which It sums up the World Cup - the fun, the joy, the excitement, the drama, the agony, the passion.

  • This is class tune brings back memories

  • Amazing anthem. Gives me goosebumps this every time i hear it. This was in the 80s when life was good :)

  • England are gonna win 2010 world cup, Rooney is the man :) he ain't no cheat like Maradona, bit a real class footballer, the white pele :)

  • @iguanna41 say what ya want about maradonna but he was a friggin genius, almost single handedly won argentina the 86 world cup, little genius skinned the fuck out of the english players for his second goal.

  • @goldyn12345

For all the skill maradonna had he will always be remembered for the hand of god or more accurately the hand of a cheating sod, he faked crying in 1990 final and was expelled from 1994 world cup for taking drugs, an embarrassment to world football

  • @daveyellowcard mmm i wonder if one of the england players had an opportunity to put their country through to the semi finals by handballing it, would they take it?? course they fuckin would!!! your right though he wasnt no angel!! so who would you say is the greatest? pele?

  • @goldyn12345

Well as for cheating against argentina michael owen went down like he was shot to get the penalty in the 2002 world cup but like gerard as well cheating scousers, has for the greatest in my era the 80's it has to be michel platini with the 84 french team & zico brazil team in 82

  • @daveyellowcard good point!! i just hope england have a good world cup, its about time we won something. 44 years and counting lol its not good enough, i look at teams like germany, they get to loads of finals and win things. 3 world cups 3 euros!! we need some of that!

  • @goldyn12345 It is a fact that people only remember Maradona for the "Hand Of A Cheating Sod" goal, & England would never play like that, we play to win not cheat & win at all costs like Argentina & Portugal.

  • @iguanna41

I agree with you with the argentina mentality of winning at any cost they dont even think it is cheating just another tactic to use SAD but it is nice to comment with someone with passion for his country

  • @iguanna41 so who,s ya money on to win the world cup? england have got a chance!! but thats all it is, a chance. if rooney dont play we lack that star quality i think!!

  • I could have composed this at home as a 10-year-old kid.

  • what a fuckin tune!! best world cup theme ive probably heard, i can just see maradonna skinning everyone in site lol quality

  • Ahh, this music takes me back!!

  • nurlhaq,閣下若不滿意,還是可以發言,但敝人不會再答覆閣下,謝謝.

  • best world cup tournament is 1986 and 1998;the worst tournament is 1990 and 2002.

  • @fusheng1974

what nonsense are you talking bout? 1990 was the height of germany's greatest team, and the last time we see maradona in a WC final. and vialli and mancini and schillaci playing together in a great italian team. lineker and gascoigne and platt together, for the last time. 02 was the last time to see beckham and owen together in good form. and the great rivaldo and the emergence of ronaldinho. and the last hurrah for bierhoff and jancker and oli kahn. beat that !!

  • I'm currently in the process of writing a footy management game for the PC called 'Fuck The Premiership, football started before 1992!' and have been looking for some sound tracks from the 70's and 80's and I came across this!

This has brought back some memories, I was 15 and cried my heart out when that cheating git and his pals beat us.

    Nice to hear it again

  • @L44ELblue

i am all for it. football before 1992 and the premiership before 1992 was real football. cantona and leeds in 1991, that was a man and a team to root for !

  • @L44ELblue

lmfao. Whatever happened to muddy pitches? Orange balls when it was snowing? and referees wearing black shirts? All a distant memory.

  • i dont know why,but the world cups used to be much better when i was a kid...

  • tarqogan totally agree, but i love italia 90 as well we got to the semi finals, USA 94 was shit because England wasn't in it :( 1998 France 98 with Glen Hoddle was ok, then we had Japan Korea 2002, & then Germany in 2006 not that they deserved it since thay had it in 74 damn krouts!! Come on England we haven't won since 1966!! Rooney is the man :)

  • they should bring it back for ITV World Cup coverage this year

  • anyone know where to download this on mp3 i absolutely love it.

  • certainly.....last fm music but they wont let me link it

  • Thank you for uploading this cool theme :)

  • And he was Algerian.

  • actually it was Ars Bandeet.

  • Way hay! I remember this. I live in Asia an this would be a hit here.

  • Come on England we have got to win it this time, i was born in 76 not seen us win the world cup yet :( I dislike Maradona because of Mexico 86.. hand of a cheating sod!! & the Germans in Italia 90.

  • Takes me back to being a kid. The same age as my son is now!!!!!!

  • unbelievably catchy tune. Got in on a tv cd compilation.

  • Come on England!! we need to win the world cup!!

  • Brings back memories of proper Wham bars and Kinder eggs with Pique in them

  • So great to hear this again, such an uplifting piece that brings me back to those great days. The b side of this was also a cracker. I think it was called the crunch. If you have it please post it. Cheers

  • @FAFDM The B side was called "On Wings of The Wind", at least on the version I have.

  • this was used as the theme music for the introduction to saint and greavsie !

  • This is far and away the best World Cup theme of them all. Absolutely brilliant!

  • @tarqogan I have to agree with you. Loved it at the time and still love it now.

  • @jameseyboy73 how come they cant make world cup themes as good as this?? lol class tune

  • @goldyn12345 That's a good question goldyn. It is an unashamedly 80's tune, and maybe it has stayed with me because I love the 80's. Apart from Nessun Dorma at Italia 90 I can't even remember any other World Cup theme. I couldn't even tell you what themes they are using for this World Cup. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

  • @jameseyboy73 who do you think will this years world cup then? its started off a bit slowly i think!!

  • @goldyn12345 I would love to say England - I live in hope. I agree, it has started off a bit slow. Germany were impressive, but the Aussies weren't much of an opposition. I always have a soft spot for Italy, but they disappointed last night. How about Spain - they must be worth a punt.

  • @jameseyboy73 yeah either spain or brazil for me, though the germans always seem to get to the semis or final!! if england dont win it i hope spain do, i dont think they have ever won the world cup!!

  • @goldyn12345 Spain have never won the World Cup - but they did win the last European Championship a couple of years ago. They were awesome back then, so I think they're in with a shout. Having said that, they usually disappoint at the World Cup. I wouldn't mind if they did win it though.

  • @jameseyboy73 typical, we're talking about spain winning the world cup then they go and lose to switzerland lol

  • @goldyn12345 LOL. I know. What are the chances of that happening, as the great Harry Hill might say. Mind you, I did say that Spain always disappoint ant the World Cup. Nice to see the Germans and French getting stuffed - especially after what France did to Ireland (yes I do mean YOU Mr Henry).

  • @goldyn12345 seems a bit of a fixed tournament, if you ask me - a lot of draws and teams playing poorly. hope england do it (even though i'm welsh) but the recent pattern is brazil, germany, brazil, france .....

    come on england!!!

  • @MrAdamAlden what is it with the germans? nearly every major tournament they get the the latter stages or even win it!! wish we knew the secret!! apart from taking good penalties!!

  • @jameseyboy73 listen to the france 98 song, rendez vous jean michel jarre, very catchy tune!!

  • @goldyn12345 I will listen out for that. I forgot about Carnaval de Paris by Dario G - that was a great tune and a good video, but I don't know if it was used as a theme for any of the television coverage.

  • @jameseyboy73 yes i remember that, that was a good tune.

  • @tarqogan usa 94 had the best theme

  • great music!! i wa 10 then!!

  • I remeber this theme more than I can remember the bbc one for that year.

  • i think the reason why that is as i said below, it was then used as The Big Match Theme tune from season 1988 thru to end of the 1991-92 season and also the theme tune to the popular saint and greavesie show on saturday afternoons back then

  • @gazhughes30 i was about to make that comment, then looked down and noticed u had already done so

  • Rummenigge, Litsbarski, Allofs, Schummacher, Briegel, Magath, Aughenthaler, and Ruddi Voeller great german cracks
