no wonder why you have dust particles on your sensor… you leave it wide open for minutes… usually you put the cover on the camera ASAP once you take the lens off… and you try as best you can not to point it up with the lens off to aoid getting dust on it.
Thank you so very, very much. This was so helpful as I was also trying to find the manual cleaning as the Canon booklet does not indicate you have to put the camera in manual mode. One question, what did you use to clean the sensor once you were in manual mode?

@20ThomasJones I used one of those infant suction bulbs. I read where it wasn't a good idea to just blow into it.
