Thanks johnathan! Your video's are extremely helpful. I'm in the process of buying an SL-110 and feel I must educate myself if I am to properly understand and look after such a beautiful old turntable. Thanks x
hey i have a video up on my page with my AT-lp120..i needed some advice cause i possibly might have a operatiing error with the turntable, any advice you can give or let me know if your turntable does the same thing would be greatly appreciated! thanks again, please comment back when you have the time on my video, its the only one i got thanks
I have a technic 1200mk2 and when I play a song its like taking your finger and dragging it across the record. The music slow down for a bit then picks up to normal speed. Any suggestions
Hello- Thanks for the video! My 1200 mk2 every 20-30 seconds wobbles. Even when the pitch is dead center green. D you think its the motor or the pitch controller? Thanks!!
When the sl1200 plays an LP , does the deck stop spinning , or do you still have to stop it manually before the stylus ends up on the label and ruins it ,? I don't suppose this deck would be any good as a proper hifi deck , would it ?
SL1200 is one of the best Hi-Fi decks you can get. It does NOT have automatic stop, simply because that'd be much more of a hindrance to DJ-ing than a help, but the stylus will NOT end up on the label because the big groove before it is in fact a "lock groove," meaning that it loops and the stylus stays still.
Ive got a set of technics 1210s mk2 black with the official world DJ championship mixer, Ive been djing since i was 14 I'm now 27 i love hard house n trance, but just haven't the time to do it anymore with work n all. i wanted to sell them but want a decent price as they are still like new and cost over £1000, i know ide miss them tho Ive got loads of vinyls, ide never sell, they are memories. keep djing mate, technics are the best!! :)

As far as I can tell, the stroboscope light adjusts itself depending on what speed the turntable has been set to, so either speed can use the same dots.
My turntable (Sanyo TP-1010) has a set of dots (well, on my turntable they're squares lol) for 33 and 45. There's 4 sets of them; for 50 khz, and 60 khz.
On the SL-1200, or at least the version on the clip, the stroboscope represents specific pitch variations with the largest row of dots representing 0% pitch deviation.
On your Sanyo, the stroboscope is used to align turntable rotation with your power line frequency. This is common on turntables whose rotation is regulated by power line frequency; the stroboscope and adjustment helps to counter any variation in rotational speed, thus audible pitch, as a result of power frequency variations.

Turntables whose rotation is power line regulated and have a multi-voltage/multi-frequency power supply has two sets of stroboscope dots, one set for 60 Hz power, such as Japan or the United States, and another set for 50 Hz power, such as Germany or the United Kingdom.
Turntables that employ feedback regulation (quartz lock) instead of power frequency regulation, OTOH, usually don't have a stroboscope except if the turntable has pitch adjustments so you can adjust back to 0% pitch deviation.

I don't use turntables to DJ, i just like listening to vinyls. I noticed that when my pitch control is dead center, the big dots move about 1 and a half dots to the right every second or so. I can't hear the pitch changing on the record, but is this something I should be worried about? How do I fix it?
Oh, come on... the thing was designed in the 70's. No matter how people dressed at that time, in professional tools, there usually was nothing for "plainly decorative purposes" :)
Explanations exist in the manuals of turntables (at least for technics they do) from bottom to top is -3.3% , normal, +3.3%, +6.4% roughly as the video says.
hehehe. great vid. always mix with dots folks, never the numbers next to the pitch. NEVER accurate unless you use the dots. If you spin electronica, you will notice beat patters that correspond to the pitch dots as well. big ups mate
Did the diffrent dot-lines from older turntables were for the diffrent freq's on the actual power-net that the turntable was connected to? So if you would buy a turntable build for 50 Hz, the actual display would be wrong cause, power-net is now about 60 Hz? (That light is flashing 60 Hz)
Thanks for that :)

You use the dots to help calibrate your pitch slider, so both will in fact line up.

You can also put small animations around the outside of a turntable and make them move. Anything that spins and has a strobe really.
Great explaining, lots of great vids.
