Shut up all of you. Watch this "gisborne boys high hurricanes champs 07 ". Food for thought. Image a team of African-American rugby players who played rugby from the age of five and then turned professional in adulthood. With top coaches, financial backing And support of the country. Scary. U americans keep playn basketball, nfl, baseball and volleyball.
@KAHUNAGAN An what makes you think they would be better than any other team because they are African American? you only need a squad off 22 of ya best players to Rep ya nation. England has like over 2million registered players in 2010, an Nz a little over 140k, so having a shitload of players mean little compared to the quality of them. If they invested in rugby more within schools, rugby clubs an competions, that would go a long way to getting Usa a decent foundation.
@NZMeathead 61% of the afl are African american. They are taller, faster and more athletic. Teach the USA right for breeding a superhuman race when they them from africa.
@KAHUNAGAN Good thing there is more to a rugby player than being tall an fast, like Brains, Talent, Skills, Technique, Vision etc etc, NFL is a game of chess, the wide receivers can just train to be fast an catch a ball, in Rugby a Winger has to train alot more areas of his game, an play 80minutes non stop, unlike a NFl player who plays for 30 seconds then has a 5minute break.
@NZMeathead we had a kid at our school who was half kiwi and half black american. Brought up in new zealand. Plays rugby. Now holds the school 100m record. Last held by current Super 14 rugby players. Man the kid could run! He had the most tries for his grade in the region. He has since been picked up by another school. And now has the most tries in that region. He is only 13. 10 years time who knows where this kid could be. He may not be a rugby player.
@KAHUNAGAN What i am saying is, our players are brought up on rugby. Its what we love. If our country was La Crosse mad we'd all be in to it instead of rugby. Black Americans sportsman are brought up in those sports basket ball ,AFL. If they were born and bred through rugby I am sure they would have the same result. I dont like AFL. Boring as! I billeted an AFL player when i was playing rugby. Man they were HUGE!!. Soft as though. But they werent brought up on rugby. They thort we were mad!
@NZMeathead by the way. I didnt say they would be better than any other team. But look at the sports that they have taken to. They dominate them. But it will never happen in rugby cos they are too into their own sports. NFL, NBA, Baseball. But dont you think that they would make an exciting team to watch. Look at the Kenyan sevens team. Shit they only just started playing recently. Black americans- powerful and expl0sive off the mark, Tall, Strong, average 9-10 secs over 100m. I think it would.
@KAHUNAGAN Nfl, they dominate because barely anyone else plays it, Baseball is the same, Usa also play softball with alot of numbers, yet the NZ softball team with less players, clean them up an the rest of the world, except 2010 I think aussie won it. You base the black americans in Nfl as being powerful/ explosive etc etc, thats because in NFl they can train those core atributes an not train other areas that are needed in rugby, they spec in certain parts.
in the u.s the youth program sucks. American football is what most kids play. It's like us watching other countries play our game. That's where it starts is when they r young so other countries have the edge on that. With all the athletes the U.S has I wish they would put some money and time into rugby.
There are about 600 High school rugby teams in the US. There are about 16,000 High school football teams in the US.
In many places, the football coach forbids his players from playing rugby. Also, there are no college scholarships for rugby. There is no professional rugby in America.
But I think if we put money into it, it will wreck something about the game here. It will be better quality, but the greedy people will show up to play.
on march 19, 2009 my rugby team earl marriot from vancouver B.C came down to challenge jesuit. jesuit was a year older and thought it was going to be easy, we ended up beathing them, wasent to hard, Go mariners
@danz111 Why don't you shut the fuck up? Rugby isn't too huge here in the US and it's a huge learning process for everyone. At least we put in the goddamn time and effort to learn this amazing sport. Fuck off man, seriously.
NZ has good development an training systems, competions for each region/province, management, each Province in NZ has a Union, 26 all up which runs rugby in their region. So when Usa Rugby gets Rugby in the country to that sort of level, then they might have a good team. Australia also only has like 80,000 players an Rugby in their schools is no popular, an they lack competions, but they still are 1 of the best teams in the world.
Usa would for sure be a whole lot better at rugby, being more popular you have access to more players, but the end of the day its the quality of them through training an culture an competion. Look at England on the IRB site says they got like 900,000 registered players, yet they a average team. NZ has 140,000 players in 2007, an they are at most times the best team, because of the quality of the players here. Most kids start playing at 5 years old an go through the club an school system.
The event was televised in Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. We surprised the tournament and media when we won our pool and advanced into the semi-finals. We met the tournament favorite Kelston Boys High from Auckland, New Zealand (and the New Zealand high school champion) and got beaten. Kelston went on to win the tournament with a convincing win over Monument High School from Johannesburg, South Africa.
In 1998 the first ever World Schools Rugby Championship was held.the tournament invited the top twelve high school teams in the world. They wanted schools dispersed throughout the world. We were honored to be the only team ( HIGHLAND RUGBY )in the Western Hemisphere included. This was held in Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa. The level of competition was off the charts. There was some public wondering why an American team had been included. The twelve teams were divided into four pools of three teams.
We met Tupou College in the 3rd/4th place match. Tupou had completed a nine-match tour of New Zealand earlier in the year against top New Zealand schools and went undefeated. Tupou was the national high school champion of Tonga. The match seesawed back and forth and with no time remaining, Morgan Scalley put a try down in the corner to give us 25-24 win in what was considered the "most exciting match of the tournament."
if the USA treated rugby like they did football the could be awsome. And if this side toured anywear in the southern hemisphere and parts of europe they would get slaughtered.
yeah man our highschool teamin alberta had this kinda quality in jr year. also that black team sucks badly i dont even understand how they made it into the nationals thats kind of embarassing
I am afraid I have to agree. My kid was on a pretty good team in the US, and they were lucky enough to do a preseason tour in Europe a couple of years ago, and, well, learned a lot of rugby while in Europe.
Hopefully videos like these will help make rugby more popular in the US.
If it ever DOES get more popular in the US, I think the US would do pretty well.
apart from France, European school rugby is pretty crap compared to NZ/South Africa/Australia. I doubt you can sit on your high horse and mock USA school rugby taking into account the sport isn't as big as it is in Europe. It has been the topic of debate in more or less every rugby forum that if the USA took rugby seriously like they do American Football or Basketball, they without would a doubt be a dominant team in world rugby.
Dear god the standard of rugby is deplorable. They would get there arses handed to them by the rugby schools in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
i play for the pulaski roos in pulaski wisoconsin. we would sloughter these teams if they played us with such sloppy form. trust me. we are broke farmboys and all jacked. rugby is our main sport. we drink and play rugby. and never lose. ever.
@rediculousnicholas rugby isnt about roids retard and americans are generally very bad at it because it requires skill from all 15 players (not about being "jacked"). don't boast untill you beat a decent aussi,nz or sa team cause thats where rugby is actually good at school level.

Jesuit High School is serious about rugby. The sport is growing in the United States, with more regulation size rugby pitchs becoming available. The High School Nationals were at Dartmouth University last year and Standford University the year before. Both schools have beautiful new regulation facilities. It is a very exciting sport!
