@yagamox: Even if the masses knew the history, they would still repeat the same mistakes. Knowing history does not necessarily mean that they comprehend it. Mankind, including the experts in history, knows a lot about history, but keeps making the same mistakes since its beginning. Could it be that we still haven't found the answer to this issue.
Ok second time around. The grays didnt accept anything not like them and treat the white paper like crap. They end up killing it and figure out its difference makes it great. The nature of the grays makes them conform to the idea that the white paper is accepted and revered. When blacky shows up they makes the same mistake again because he isnt a white worshiping gray and turn on it, even though the black and white are more connected then the grays.
The white and black pieces of paper have a connotation of good and evil, first thing that anyone would see depending who the observer is, but seems to distinguish them from the rest. The "rest" always consume it in someway
Its said that history repeats itself. The story is about someone who is different and because of that they r rejected and feared (white paper) by others (grey paper). But when they die they come to regret that mistake and look up to them 4 helping them. But when someone who is also different comes in (black paper). They don't learn there lesson and reject them again even though they could be the on 2 save them all. But thats just my opinion.
The white paper, Is not Jesus, could be Mahoma, Buddha, Mahatma Ghandi, Lady Di, Martin Luther King, or all those person who in life were criticized or pursued, but in death are worshipped. Humans tend to fear and despise those who does not look / think like them, but they also tend to worship the same those who feared after they destroy them. The black Paper it's not the Devil It's somebody different who may be killed and after that... worshipped
I don't see any religious role in the white figure. it's about the human handicap to understand and/or accept difference and therefore process it properly.
Difference doesn't mean superiority or inferiority, but,, alas we human beings--or should I say just us beings?--tend like our ancestors one million years ago to worship or fear what we do not understand.
@yagamox That's right. Garri Bardin said in a March 12 interview with Finam that he had an argument with his son Pavel (who is a live-action filmmaker) about the film; his son thought that he should have ended it before the entrance of the black figure, and had it be the story of Jesus. Garri Bardin replied that his film was not about Christ - it is about "the grey masses who don't know history, don't want to know history, and repeat the same mistakes".
great beautiful animation. The description is well written. The end of the description captures a great deal about humanity, most particularly the phrase: "...Fearing something, stomped on the proud heart and extinguished its flame..." What is it that we fear exactly...what is that something?? Brilliant.
Please read the video profile, or take a look at our world and you'll see how all of us kill the messengers because they don't conform with our Belief Systems, aka BS :)
@AlbionsClouds & @confederateyankeegir The end bit was the easiest to get, if my interpretation is right. It was about racism, the black sheep, the one who is different. So the ending was understandable. As another commenter said: 'they never learnt their lesson'. The film maker hints at this.
It did seem strange to me though, why the hero was killed so soon. Reading the bit about Danko in the explanation did not help either because that is a different story, albeit with some similarities.
@AlbionsClouds Brilliant explanation and insight I see as you see! Your thoughts are parallel with mine! This is an on going conflict in the world we live in. Your channel I had to subscribe because it is a painting of truth that is always made dull or obscured in the convoluted and distorted dimension we live in.
So, in the beginning, the GREY papers feared the WHITE paper because he was different from then. However, when they finally realized that the WHITE paper was their "saviour" (already too late cause he died), they began worshipping the WHITE paper. So, the end shows a cycle, a BLACK paper enters the scene, and all of a sudden people see that he is the complete opposite of the WHITE paper they worshipped (in colour alone) and once again we see the image of the GREY circle around the "outsider"...
Interesting interpretation. I took the Black paper as a symbol for the devil, which the Grey papers turned against based on their new-found salvation with the White paper (Jesus).
@vladtepesdrac Yes, the repeating of history as the animator mentioned. Well done. I got confused with why they turned against the hero so soon after he helped them and it was triggered by something that blew in and then blew away again. I'm not sure if any of the other posts resolved that one?
Ahhh! Poor white bird D: but this was amazing! Good work!

This has nothing to do with Jesus.
