I remember stumbling around in radio interview when I was 22. He an impressive person at 13. He reminds me of someone with whom I used to argue politics when we were in our late teens--though they were probably both the same height. :-) He did a far better job of putting forth a conservative position than any current politician or pundit. I'd like to read this book. But Goldwater believed you can't legislate morals. Does Jonathan differ with the GOP there?

One more thing. In another interview Jonathan mentions his parents and how their support made his success posisble. I think this may be his father's account. Thank you for encouraging your son. However, keep in mind, that a disproportionate amount of poor people in this country grow up with a stable home and stable parents.

It's nice to see an articulate young man. He's obviously put a great deal of thought into his views. However, what is this betterment of society during the Regan era that he's talking about? The middle class shrunk exponentially, the distrobution of wealth was horribly skewed. It effected all of society, not just the poor.

Actually although Carter signed the original Community Reinvestment Act...it did not have any teeth until CLINTON strengthened it, giving affordable housing groups like ACORN, the power to rate banks on how often they gave mortgages to low income people. Low ratings meant the banks would not be allowed mergers and other important proceedures. Community organizers bullied banks and marketed the sub-prime mortgages and received pay for pushing the mortgages.

After Clinton strengthened the Community Reinvestment Act, the amount of sub-prime mortgages made during the later Clinton years exceeded conventional mortgages...conventional ones required down payments,good credit, and proof of sufficient income.

Those sub-prime adjustable rate mortgages began with lower payments and it was in the contract...that after a certain number of years, maybe five years, the rates and therefore the payments were set to increase,,,after Clinton was out of office.

So, after President Bush was elected...those sub-prime loans automatically raised in rates...at a pre-set time agreed upon when the loan had been made during Clinton years.

Without the adjustable rate mortgage, the low income people would not have been able to afford the mortgages in the first place.

When the rates raised they couldn't afford the payments.; President Bush inherited the mess the Democrats started. AND the liberal Democrats are still pushing for these loans to low income
