Thanks darijoe, I actually remember that episode! You don't happen to have any vids with that guy with the goatee from the mid-late 80s do you? Kerry something, his name was. Thanks again for a bit of nostalgia.
@ijustwannawatchshite It is such an amazing clip, isn't it? I presume that Kerry guy you speak of is Cary Young. Unfortunately I don't have any clips of him. I sourced this clip from another website.
Um, are you asking me to upload some of this stuff? I would also LOVE to see these things uploaded here too. Unfortunately I don't have most of these, but now with significant upgrades in technologies, I'll be able to provide you with TWO episodes from 1999. Watch this space...
Thanks...That's good, although I wasn't directly asking you to upload every single moment that I specified, I put it here hoping someone with footage would see it.
Your welcome MeFrom07. It does help having an incredible VCR. It's about 12 years old now and only had 2 services. In fact the quality from that tape is not as good because it was recorded on Long Play mode. The next episode which I'll upload this weekend was recorded on standard play will look even better! The H264 codec is amazing!
To resume my previous comment, it would return in 2007 under the name "Temptation" (just like the Australian version), hosted by Rossi Morreale. It only lasted a year.
This show did okay in America. It started in 1969 with a slightly different format, hosted by Jack Kelly. Joe Garagiola took over in 1971 and would host until 1974. It returned in 1983 with this format, hosted by Jim Perry. Sally Julian was the original assistant, but would soon be replaced by Lee Menning. In '84 Summer Bartholomew replaced her and would be there until the end of the run in '89.
...and probably the only one with a tattoo of the Einstein Factor logo. Now there was a fun show to do - not just a win, but a chance to meet the Obi-Wan Kenobi of quiz shows, the legendary Barry Jones. What a most delightful fellow he is, too.
Thanks again for the footage. My youngest son was quite interested in seeing mum "in the zone".
@virginianoel I am totally stunned by your performance.I watched it live when I was a child and seeing it again all these years later is fascinating.I admire you.
@virginianoel that was a phenomenal performance Virginia! idon't think i've seen anything like that since Ken Jennings went on his jeopardy winning streak here in the U.S.
This is the only earliest SOTC i can find on youtube. No one was very sure what the future can bring us, we could have posted lots of SOTC clips on youtube.
At 00:44, Virginia's answer to a question was USSR, which, BTW, was dissolved 8 years after this episode debuted. The USSR just ain't the USSR no more.
I think that this was from the Australia vs. USA championship (which was aired in 1985). I don't think that the "Fast Money" ("Speed Round") segment was used until 1984 at least.
No way she got that high!!! But she does hold the record for the highest score in Temptation history - $135, which she scored on 28th Feb and 1st March this year.
David Poltorak (currently the question writer for "The Einstein Factor" I think) had managed to reach that score of $200 on his final episode as a contestant
Here's a bit of $otC trivia: the highest winning score on Australian $otC is $200 by David Poltorak in the mid 80's. That would make a good YouTube video...wonder who has a copy?
In case you're wondering... Reg Grundy is still being too much of a dick to sell re-air rights to GSN here in the states so that it can show quality shows like this, Scrabble, and many others that US fans can no longer watch. :( And yes, that is the same buzzer. The accent is cooler, but the host is not.. Jim Perry all the way.
Yeah, I'm concerned about that too. I used to watch these shows as a kid, and always had the curiosity why Grundy would never give the rights to GSN. These really are incredible shows, truthfully!
You can say that again. Getting another $70 in 60 seconds only made matters worse for the other two. If I remember hearing right, the one game record for the US version is $145.
Well done, amazing !

The following are historical moments in Aussie SotC which I expect to see on YouTube in future:
- The entire 1980 premiere.
- David Poltorak scoring $200 in the Fast Money round.
- Robert Kusmierski winning the lot in 1992 including the highest ever cash jackpot of $508,000.
- The 1996 celebrity challenge when Peter Smith played against international guest Gary Coleman.
- A full episode recorded between 1994 & 1999.
All of which came from a high quality file off a good quality tape. Thank you.

Ah, Virginia, that's my pleasure!
But all the credit should be attributed to you. Thank you for providing such an incredible moment in game show history!
Congratulations for your big wins here on Sale of the Century and The Einstein Factor in 2006.
I can safely say that you are one of Australia's Quiz Show Queens!

Dang, those other players got SMOKED. For the record, Fast Money is also called "The Lightning Round" here in the states.
What happened to Reg Grundy, anyway? Is he too busy trying to smash Superfriends to make another game show?
