I work on election campaigns. Joint Parliamentary and local campaigns require strict separation of funding streams and allied accountability. Goldsmith is claiming it is standard practice to use his name and face for signage etc. to promote local council candidates (it is not), which he then accounted for under local expense budgets (tut, tut...), knowing full well this expense should fall under his Parliamentary returns. Sadly, little chance of by-election though.

C4 were just put out that Sky News is more reputable. Jon Snow only had to do the right thing and apologise. The interview would then have been productive. Unfortunately Mr Goldsmith only succeeds in making himself look an argumentative idiot. It is extraordinary the way in which politicians seem to still feel that rules don't apply to them. Investigative journalism is our only protection against such disgraceful attitudes and cavalier approach to abiding by the rules. Mr Goldsmith appears to be a shameless cheat and I trust the voters will see this, and vote accordingly.

MPs don't have an obligation to immediatley be available to any particular TV show, if he wasn't available, so what? Reschedule, like they did. His point seems to be that he was slighted by Jon Snow, slighly petty, but fair enough. If the jackets were bought as a central cost & re-usable then he's done nothing wrong. If they were indeed customised & not-reusable then Jon Snow & Co are right to flag it up. C4 should have had the electoral commission check first. Bit of a non-story until they do.

The media seem to act with impunity and distort facts to suit their agenda, I hope the commission finds in Zac's favour and he sues the pants of C4 and in turn media outlets realise they cannot get away with acting so irresponsibly and distorting the facts. In Britain we now have "trial by media" when the media can create any political effect it wants to. Dispatches for example tonight reinforced the ideology of banning guns & knives. Guns are not dangerous - it's the person behind. I think he made a big error of judgement in how he came across, unfortunately even if he is correct which I very much doubt given Channel 4 News and Jon Snows positive reputation, he has to realise that he cannot be such an arrogant person, especially as he is essentially a servant of the public. It is a bit embarrassing watching him trying to dictate the flow of the interview and his insistence on repeating mundane facts regarding his interview set up, just answer the question.

I work on election campaigns. Joint Parliamentary and local campaigns require strict separation of funding streams and allied accountability. Goldsmith is claiming it is standard practice to use his name and face for signage etc. to promote local council candidates (it is not), which he then accounted for under local expense budgets (tut, tut...), knowing full well this expense should fall under his Parliamentary returns. Sadly, little chance of by-election though.

I could give you a list of news items the British mainstream media hasn't aired that foreign news agencies HAVE aired. C4 were just put out that Sky News is more reputable. Jon Snow only had to do the right thing and apologise. The interview would then have been productive. I know that the posters, jackets and logos all conform to the electoral commission terms in exactly the same way as every other campaign in the country. As Jon Snow said, they are rarely comfortable with their position, which underlines their lack of credibility and integrity!
