Nashville wasn't dropped in Season 2. It was Flatbush. Bert Sommer (Flatbush) left, to resume his professional singing career. Louise DuArt did play Nashville. She and Mickey McNeel (Turkey) are two of my facebook friends and we're email pals. It was Mickey who told me, why Burt Sommer left. If you have facebook, send them a friend request. They love talking to old fans, of the Supershow.
There was a very fine line between the acid-drenched late 60's for adults and the children's programing of the early 70's. There's no denying they went hand in hand. Lots of folks were puffin' stuff, that's for sure....
I recently bought the first season of "The Incredible Hulk", on DVD. The sound F/X of Lou Ferrigno jumping, is the same used for Ray Young (Bigfoot) jumping. Feriggno's Hulk reminded me of Young's Bigfoot.
@KiddJetix Besides, ever since the Krofft Supershow got cancelled, why did they wait 6 or 7 years to pitch the idea to syndicators? ( Really seems like an eternity) Or did they have their own goofy defined rules on what's old school or "cheesy"? WRONG ON BOTH LEVELS!!!!!!
@KiddJetix I always hated the time slot Funtastic World was on, b/c in my area it was on @ 7AM on Sun. mornings, and I was usually up @ 8 or 9. Besides, can't believe they also did a remake of the patronizing, PC "Yogi's Gang" (with Top Cat spearheading the group), even though I do admit some of the Funtastic segments, such as "Fantastic Max" and "Midnight Patrol" are not only original, they ARE hilariously funny!!!
I enjoy watching the latter 2 w/my 6 y.o. nephew :)
ITS TIME FOR SID & MARTY KROFF TO FORGET ABOUT THE VERY BAD MOVIE THAT THEY MADE "LAND OF THE LOST" AND START THINKING ABOUT PUTTING "THE KROFFT SUPERSHOW ON DVD!!!!
@FILMATION1981 , I can't believe they gave their "OK" to do that stupid Movie. if they had done the movie correctly and taken it seriously as the Original TV Show, I would have been fine with it...BUT NOOO Hollywood had to screw it up as they allways do. it was a insult to the TV show.
@FILMATION1981 AMEN, BUT HERE'S A TIP: THE KROFFTS ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONAL MYSPACE PAGE. SOMEBODY REALLY NEEDS TO GET IT THROUGH TO THEM ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. I'M REALLY GETTING FED UP OF THE LACK OF ORIGINALITY ON NETWORK TV
@FILMATION1981 Get a petition going, to bring this to DVD and I'll gladly sign it. The Kroffts need to get the Kongs to do a reunion, for bonus features.
There's a very good reason for Captain Kool's Brooklyn accent. The actor MICHAEL LEMBECK is none other than the son of HARVEY LEMBECK, aka Erick Von Zipper, leader of the Rats biker gang in the famous 60's BEACH PARTY movies with Frankie & Annette! Von Zipper Jr. Now THAT'S COOL!!
@TheFrankenstein72 He even helped headline the historic Woodstock concert (if you've ever seen the poster, his name's on the lineup). 70's rocker all the way, regardless of what age he was performing for ;)
@ThoughtTraveler , Tell me about it. I'm 43 yrs old soon to be 44 in Nov and I see this show and other cartoons i grew up watching on youtube and I wonder where the time has gone. I'm just gratefull a lot of my childhood shows are now on DVD.
You know if I had the money and capital I would start a cable channel that would play nothing but these old 1970 kids shows.......stuff like Land of the Lost, Kroft supershow, Captain Kangaroo, Shazam Isis hour, Sigmond and the seamonster etc etc.
I would bet a Lot of people would lover to have thier kids watch the 70s stuff instead of the garbage we have for kids now....
Always wondered what Lennie Weinrib looked like. Except for hearing his voice as Mongo, he could pass for George Lindsey (Goober Pyle). Considering he did serveral voice impersonations, maybe he could've done a Goober Pyle impersonation. R.I.P. Lennie.
I can't believe I actually watched this but after seeing this video it's ALL coming back to me LOL. I was 9 or 10 at the time and yes I did watch this. Saturday mornings where sure interesting and entertaining at this time.
I thought the late Lennie Weinrib was great as Magic Mongo. He did a LOT of voice-over work for the Krofft brothers (remember he was the voice of Pufenstuf) and a very good actor. RIP Lennie, you're missed. :)
@wlbaz I agree Lennie Weinrib was great as Magic Mongo and the voice of Puff n Stuff.......he guest started on the Dick Van Dyke show and played a Friend who liked to do practical jokes.
The Kroft Supershow was recently broadcast on the local OC Cal cable channel Saturday mornings. Brings back memories of the 70's! I recently saw David Levy on a t.v. program commenting on the media. I guess one of his areas of expertise is media psychology at Pepperdine
Funny how I used to think that "Kaptain Kool" (Michael Lembeck) was such a guido (that's an Italian for those of you in Iowa) but he's as Jewish as they come. I was 10 when this was on Sat. mornings. My sister's and I would 'become' characters and sing "Kaptain Kool & The Kongs" theme song all week long.
Captain Cool was Hot! Later he was on One Day at a Time as Valarie Burtonelli's husband. Didn't know he started out on this tripped out Saturday morning venture.
Well heck, Micheal Lembeck (aka Kaptain Kool) comes from a show biz family as his dad was Harvey Lembeck and in fact, his sister Helaine Lembeck was not only on Magic Mongo, but also once appeared on Welcome Back, Kotter as Judy. He is now a tv director these days.
jay robinson (dr. shrinker) was a drug addict and very undependable. i got this first hand in the early 90's from a guy that worked with the krofft outfit. jay robinson continues to do work and his biggest role was in "the robe"
The first season was better. The second season could have been good if they kept "Dr. Shrinker" and "Electra Woman And Dyna Girl". Did they seriously think "Magic Mongo" was going to be better? At least "Wonderbug" stuck around.
why was nashvile droped from the group in season 2 oh and was that louise duart as nashvile?
