I haven't, but Boeing has. The B747-800 Intercontinental Dreamliner. The B747-800 actually looks like an airplane in the front, rather a deformed whale head.
I admit I didn't like the look of the A380 at first. But that's like saying the A-10 is a shit plane just because it doesn't look all that handsome. The 747 is an awesome plane but A380 is so much better in so many ways.
And what ways are those. And if you say more modern, that's not fair, because that's comparing a plane made in the 1980's to a plane made in 2007-08. But the 747-800 will be just as modern as the A380. Also, I think the A380 is a little bit too big. With gas prices so high, airlines are looking to save money and not buy such big aircraft.
The A380 is one of the most fuel efficient aircraft per passenger. I'm guessing you don't like the A380 because you're American and are jealous at the fact that the European airline Airbus is out-doing your Boeing. I think you need to see the aircraft for the aircraft, and not the country.
A380 because it's European. In fact that's not the reason at all. As a matter of fact, I love the A330. It's one of my favorite airplanes. I didn't think you'd be the kind to judge others before you know them, and just because I'm American. Regardless of the fact that I hate the A380, I'm supporting Boeing because they are an American company, so I'm supporting my country. Just like you are supporting the European brand, Airbus.
I don't care where the aircraft is made, I only care about how good that plane is. Boeing are great and they've lead the way for years but the A380 is in many ways better than the 747 is now. Why do you not like the A380?
I don't like the shape of the aircraft and I don't like the fact that it has two full decks. I like the 747-800 because it is still like the old design, but has newer engines (fuel efficient), different wings, extended fuselage, and new cockpit and interior. I cannot wait to see Lufthansa flying it in 2010. Lufthansa will be the launch customers. But actually the Freighter version will be used next year!
I agree wuth greatbritain you are jealous of the A380. You commented saying Im supporting USA and that's why you hate A380 because it's better than a 747 in more than one way. It's bigger, its more comfortable, it's quieter, it's more fuel efficient and it's just plain better.
The people at Boeing could have made a fully extended upper deck if they wanted to, but because they have brains, they know that it's just not a good idea. The A380 is so big, that some airports can't handle it. And I don't see all the airlines running to order the A380. How do you know the A380 is quieter than the B747-800 when you've never flown on the B747-800?! Besides, the B787 will knock Airbus off their feet.
Sorry but you don't know what you are talking from.First the 747 upper deck can't be extended so easily without a massive investment due to static and aerodynamic issues.Second the A380 can land everywhere the 747 can using less runway for takeoff and landing and can outclimb a 747. Third on official published documents from ICAO you can read the 747-800 having a noise profile on arrival of QC1 while the A380 is rated QC 0.5. Thats why British Airways buyed the A380 instead of the 747-800.
The B787 already has 896 orders. The A380 can't fit at most gates at the airport. I know it can land and takeoff anywhere a B747 can, but it won't fit in the gates. And British Airways is the largest operator of the B747, and they have orders for the B787-8 and B787-9.
Man, the nonsense you are posting is getting worse.Thats just not true the A380 can use every standard gate the 747 can use. It only is an advantage to have two gates as it does fasten up the boarding procedure. Besides we were talking about the 747-800 and why British Airways one of the worlds biggest 747 operator did not choose to buy the new 747 variant. Not to forget the 787 being 4 years longer on sales then the A350 which has been launched 1 1/2 year ago but won already over 400 orders.
Whats the next myth you want to bring? So again the 787 launched in 2004 won 890 orders. The A350XWB launched in 2007 has won already 458 orders 7 years before first flight.
I'll let you do the math which plane is the fastest selling widebody.
Btw don't hypebole to much about the 787 its to early for prophecies.Sure its a great plane and will be very useful & efficient for airlines. But the A350XWB will burn 2% less fuel due to newer engines while providing 1000nm more range and hauling more people. It will get a more advanced and bigger composite wing and a extremely modern flightdeck. The frame will have more composite percentage and be wider so it can compete against both the 787 and 777.
Please enlighten us by mentioning which airport in the world can handle a B747 and not an A380? Besides, you should also know that the B747 is only efficient while traveling in full capacity so, lets say, if the airliner cannot fit every single seat with a passanger, the cost of flying is just ludicrous.
I'll give you a great example. The Detroit Metro Airport can handle B747's, but none of the gates are large enough to hold an A380. Here in Detroit, Northwest Airlines has 4 flights a day to Japan. ALL of them are booked. The last time I was on a NWA B747 going to Narita from Detroit, There was not even one seat open. It was totally full. In these instances, the B747 is very fuel efficient. So obviously I just proved you wrong. Clearly the A380 cannot fit at every airport that a B747 can.
When you said 'handle' I obviously thought runways and taxiways for planes to come and go. If your point is solely based on how big the gate is then you are not considering the benefit of fitting in 24% more passengers in a single plane and thus reducing the number of flights for the same number of people as opposed to the cost of preparing gates for A380 which is obviously not a dime, but definetly worth it - otherwise people wouldn't be doing it as we speak.
I was lucky enough to see the A380 in its first flight to Argentina, didn't notice any lack of space there. Neither in Colombia or Brazil. And we're talking about 3rd world countries. Wait... you're a US citizen, chances are you don't know what Argentina, Brazil and Colombia are, well those are countries in a continent called South America. If Detroit can't handle the planes well terribly sorry to hear that, just continue with your NWA flights.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I wouldn't call you lucky to see the A380. Thanks for generalizing. Wait... you live in Peru, chances are you don't know what money is. I'm terribly sorry you have to live in South America. Unfortunately, South America is are our neighboring continent.
And FYI... I'm very happy that Detroit can't handle the A380. If it could, then our airport might not look as nice. Have fun living in your 3rd world country! Maybe one day you won't have to be poor.
First of all, those who didn't know.. *or were teached wrongly (very common in the US). The continent is AMERICA. that includes all North, South Central, Caribean. And by the way, all citizens of America (continent) are americans.
Also, I wouldn't be talking so smoothly about who has money when the US economy is not that steady. Hurray, so you live in the US.. have you ever been outside your little egg shell? Open your mind.
and with american bioengereering of plants this 3rd world guy is living because of us. if it weren' for american ingenuity those latinos would still be fighting each other like animals.
TennisChamp59, you are embarassing yourself. I won't even call you stupid, dumb, or uneducated, but my friend, you are the last person who should be talking about anything at all, especially on a public site where everyone can see your ultra-stupidity! Your comment about AMericas is enough to fail grade 1. STFU please and go away!
bitch. just cause we are americans doesn't mean were stupid. some of us [me] go to international schools to study. and im currently studying latin america. and previousely studied parts of the world and the US.
The capital (not capitol) of Brazil (Brasil in Portuguese) is Brasilia (not brasila). It seams that you are not learning enough in your "international" school.
The point is you shouldn't come and say that A380 people don't have brains, look at their sales charts because you sound as childish as my previous country-ignorant example. And just to prove you wrong: Airbus sure have smarter 'brains' than Boeing's as to have more deliveries for 4 years now and beat them in orders in 2008.
Not true, the 747-800 will NEVER be as modern as the A380. No FBW, no IMA, no monolithic composites or GLARE, no NSS,no Power by wire,no EHA,no ACUTE system(Airbus Cockpit Universal Thrust Emulator),high psi hydraulics, inferior wing, etc.. The A380 is the only plane on earth which can be flown after total hydraulics loss. The A380 will still be more efficient on most routes, but the 747-800 will also be a efficient and fine plane. Over 300 technologies were developed in the A380 program.
Actually he increased his power after touching down. Big Aircraft normally use reverse thrust to help slow the aircraft. So the increase in power you here is the pilot putting the engines into reverse thrust.
Committing a mistake is humane. And the pilots are included. I bet that the pilot has maybe 30 hours of flying an A380. It's just an experiment and a matter of time to better the skills. It doesn't have to be a perfect landing. Some were and some were not.
Hey wstewart07! you are absoulutely correct. The A380 is smaller than the both the An-225 and the Hughes H-4 Hercules BUT the difference is that those planes are NOT commercial airliners. That is why the A380 is considered the largest commercial plane with total occupancy in all 3 classes (1st class, business and coach) of 840 passengers. i took one from detroit to japan and then the philippines. the ride was sooo smoothe like butter.
what is all the fuss is about with this A380? just another jumbo jet imo. its not flying faster, higher or further than any other passenger plane or breaking new ground with cutting edge technology. when did you last heard some1 rave about a oil tanker? big isn't always better. on the other hand Concorde is by far a more impressive plane. it achieve something that deem not possible at its time.
It's all to do with fuel efficiency. Airlines currently operating several daily non stop flights between two cities can reduce the number of flights without reducing the number of seats, thus cutting down on fuel consumption.
Well i think a 787, that actually has better fuel consumption than an a380, is way more effective because it uses less gas while allowing airlines to get into smaller airports, which increses an airlines' number of direct flights and gets customers closer to their destination. thus, attracting more customers to your airline.
airport traffic is also a major problem, Im from Chicago, I know about traffic, (the city is trying to pave a runway over a cemetery) 1 A-380 reduces the traffic 3 or 4 dreamliners would create, Believe me, being from Chicago, I prefer Boeing (100 N Riverside,Chicago, IL.) Over the European Conglomerate, but we have to give credit where it is due, The A-380 is to travel, what the internet is to communications.
The a380's engines are better than GE CF6 80C2B1F (747's)

JAL should not buy the Airbus A380 it's too loud it can also not land at a lot of airports because the runway is too short .

The A380 engines make less noise than most other airliners - and also uses less runway for take off and landing to comparable aircraft (e.g. 747).
Based on these facts JAL should buy A380s

Besides, you should also know that the B747 is only efficient while traveling in full capacity so, lets say, if the airliner cannot fit every single seat with a passanger, the cost of flying is just ludicrous.
MrNicotra 3 years ago
I'll give you a great example. The Detroit Metro Airport can handle B747's, but none of the gates are large enough to hold an A380. Here in Detroit, Northwest Airlines has 4 flights a day to Japan. ALL of them are booked. The last time I was on a NWA B747 going to Narita from Detroit, There was not even one seat open. It was totally full. In these instances, the B747 is very fuel efficient. So obviously I just proved you wrong. Clearly the A380 cannot fit at every airport that a B747 can.
TennisChamp59 3 years ago

It's "taught" not "teached".

Because you are helping to build the B747-800 right?

@TennisChamp59: dude stop calling the A380 a whalejet, unless you're working at boeing in which they paid you to say that.

he increased power so he could lift the nose of the aircraft
bmxerqf882 4 years ago
Actually he increased his power after touching down. Big Aircraft normally use reverse thrust to help slow the aircraft. So the increase in power you here is the pilot putting the engines into reverse thrust.
BGflyer2286 3 years ago
Committing a mistake is humane. And the pilots are included. I bet that the pilot has maybe 30 hours of flying an A380. It's just an experiment and a matter of time to better the skills. It doesn't have to be a perfect landing. Some were and some were not.
Beto26687 4 years ago
Hey wstewart07! you are absoulutely correct. The A380 is smaller than the both the An-225 and the Hughes H-4 Hercules BUT the difference is that those planes are NOT commercial airliners. That is why the A380 is considered the largest commercial plane with total occupancy in all 3 classes (1st class, business and coach) of 840 passengers. i took one from detroit to japan and then the philippines. the ride was sooo smoothe like butter.
Nysasq 4 years ago
The A380 isn't even the largest aircraft ever created. It's actually the third largest aircraft ever to be produced, see:
Antonov An-225 "Mriya"
Hughes H-4 Hercules "Spruce Goose"

ive seen the an-225
its a beast ... it almost looks like its too slow to takeoff

you even have to reduce the frequency of landing planes since they cant fly in the huge turbulences that thing creates.

As awsome as I think the A380 is it is not the biggest plane airplane at all.

what is all the fuss is about with this A380? just another jumbo jet imo. its not flying faster, higher or further than any other passenger plane or breaking new ground with cutting edge technology. when did you last heard some1 rave about a oil tanker? big isn't always better. on the other hand Concorde is by far a more impressive plane. it achieve something that deem not possible at its time.

It's all to do with fuel efficiency. Airlines currently operating several daily non stop flights between two cities can reduce the number of flights without reducing the number of seats, thus cutting down on fuel consumption.
levoltaire 4 years ago 2
Well i think a 787, that actually has better fuel consumption than an a380, is way more effective because it uses less gas while allowing airlines to get into smaller airports, which increses an airlines' number of direct flights and gets customers closer to their destination. thus, attracting more customers to your airline.
Stephenchavana 4 years ago
airport traffic is also a major problem, Im from Chicago, I know about traffic, (the city is trying to pave a runway over a cemetery) 1 A-380 reduces the traffic 3 or 4 dreamliners would create, Believe me, being from Chicago, I prefer Boeing (100 N Riverside,Chicago, IL.) Over the European Conglomerate, but we have to give credit where it is due, The A-380 is to travel, what the internet is to communications.
