What the fuck are people talking about Jewish people for? Israel is a good ally with the United States and does nothing but try to help us, and vice versa.
@ryan06105 right, which make bryan adams a theiving little mother. this song is way better as well. guess petty is like other legends - lot of other parasites makin a livin out of them
The first time I ever heard this song, I was in a drag bar in a bad part of town. All us freaks had been living like refugees, and we all stood up a little straighter as we listened.
My dad had this great album on vinyl and I wanted to put it on CD but he told me that when I was about 4 years old I listened to it so many times that one side is virtually damaged!
I think we should make all Muzzies in first world countries listen to this song, so they MIGHT get the message that they don't have to live like a refugee.
@chairmanofthebored1 Very true - this song will always do that. I guess its especially poignant when you consider what its up against in today's so called "music" lol. My 4 year old daughter could probably produce something that would sell in todays market.
@Glorious80s i hate to say anything about it, because these younger folks get attitude with me, but yes, it is so true. I was born in 70. Why is it that when I was a kid, I was subjected to music that was 20 years older than me, and learned to appreciate that as well as the music of my generation. I wasn't just stuck on music of the 70's growing up. I think you know what I'm getting at, lol.
I 100% get what your saying.I had older brothers and my buddies did too. So We were exposed to different kinds of music. I had uncles that listened to 50's rock-a-billy and grandparents that listened to 'swing' music of the 40's.We discovered where our rock n roll came from, what cracks me up nowadays is when I hear someone do a remake like 'Melt with you' or 'Blitzkreig Bop' or an old Beatles tune or whatever and my kids are jamming to it. I love telling them it was written 30 plus years ago
@chairmanofthebored1 LOL they look at you all dumb like..."We won't get fooled again" and i say that tune is even older...Lil one was singing "Whooooo are you who who who who...." The other day just made me burst out laughing.. Hey I know im old when I hear the 'Clash' (Train in Vain) being played at Meijers while I grocery shop...only diference between my parents and me is I sing and dance right along to it and embarrass the shit out of my kids (thats our job)
@Maxharddrive64, you should hear the remake of Free Fallin and read some of the comments by fans of the the artist John Mayer. Some actually think that Mayer's version is better, and some haven't even heard of Petty.
@chairmanofthebored1, nice you were born 17 years before me. Tom Petty is definitely a legend and what's not to appreciate about him? I was reading some comments on Free Fallin, from both Petty's original and the John Mayer's version, and some of Mayer's fans don't even know about Petty. Some even found Petty's song sung by John Mayer from some person named Harry Styles or something like that.
@treynich87 There are actually alot of great songs from my adolescent era, that I hear today's performers remaking. Whether it's Mayer's or Petty's version, you still have great taste in music.
haunting stuff from petty and co.jimmy iovine and shelly yakus got a great sound from these guys ,just like on stevie, s bella donna album you can see how they achieved it on the making of doccumentary dvd its worth a buy!

I knew Tom Petty was a republican when I heard these lyrics.
There is a dichotomy between individualism and collectivism.
This song suggests abandoning the marginal uses of the victim model, which puts him in the individualist camp.

@tnekkc Tom Petty is a musician, not a politician

@MuchoKiller
Tom Petty started giving money to the Republican party when he was young.
Most people do not turn republican until 40.
Rock stars usually never turn republican.
