Great video, Joe. It is amazing how uneducated some of the responses are here. As a technical person, these bills will do nothing to curb piracy. All they can do is block DNS. If you don't what that is, you shouldn't be spouting your opinion on these two bills because you would know that getting around blocked DNS entries is like computers 101. These bills are extremely bad answers to real problems. These are potentially damaging for the Technology industry and a minor annoyance to pirates

I could really careless about any of this to be frank and honest. What was the world like prior to the internet? What was the world like prior to cellphones? Prior to computers? A lot easier than it is now...Technology hasn't made anything easier...It has made our life harder and more difficult. Excellent vid Joe!! The bills are flawed in so many ways, e.g. it's obvious that the authors do not understand how the internet works. For instance, they want to stop foreign pirate sites from being accessed in the USA, but the bans would be based on the sites' URLs, meaning that the very sites they want to ban could be okay and legit USA sites could be banned. I agree with protecting IP but not by obtuse & broad-brushed legislation.

Read the actual proposed bills and then see how much of it is actually censorship. Neither of them have anything to do with censorship. SOPA = Stop Online Piracy Act..I think that pretty much explains itself, Piracy has been against the law for the last 10 years but now ppl bitch lol, ever since napster. PIPA = Protect Intellectual Property Act... this makes it a crime for someone else to steal your idea's and make billions off of it. People need to stop listening to what others say and read.

That's exactly how I feel about SOPA and PIPA. The reason why everyone is in such a uproar about the bill is that it's just so broad and can be manipulated to easy (at least, that's what they think will happen). I just read an article about the bill and the writer said that it was too open for interpretation and could cause more harm than good.

I know people like to go against the grain or somehow believe "big brother" is looking at us theory. Some of us are "free spirits" and don't want to be told what to do. Having a Youtube is a privilege, not a right. Youtube gives us the "freedom" to express ourselves or do whatever. If one follows the guidlines correctly then censorship will never be a problem.

Places like youtube won't be shut down if they are doing everything they can to prevent pirated material. They already do that as it is. Also for the programming they have online. It's like Hulu. If they have permission from the person or company ahead of time then that's not pirating. Have you noticed most of the shows that are on here are posted by the network themselves.

If u want to upload a video with such & such artists playing in the background fine, make the viewers watch 1 or2mins of ads to cover royalties & operation cost! Joe, I'm really glad we share more than one thing in common. The love of a good homebrew and the free and open access to information. SOPA and PIPA are two of the most dangerous pieces of legislation to come to congress in a long time. While I applaud any online entity for bringing more attention to these issues, the only real solution is to call your reps and tell them via phone or postal mail that you oppose SOPA and PIPA. The majority of reps do not pay attention to email & online petitions.

Great video, i just went to Wikipedia and it's shut down, but they had all the contact information for the Washington state sens and reps, so i left them emails, except a few of their voice mails were already full. I hope everyone else does this. The sooner these people realize supporting SOPA and PIPA will get them voted out during the next election, the sooner they will fight against it.
