  • Loved Tom's interlude. :)

  • a Milsom cameo! Life's good

  • Time for another video..?

  • Love the charts. Nice to have when one returns home from holiday

  • Can I just say I'm in love with that Uke. Can I marry it?

lol. Really dig these quarterly reports, keep it up! :D

  • no reply!

  • I'm sticking around for Q3 without a doubt.

  • Charts and ukulele! Yay! So much awesome!

    Phewfff.

I may need to go lay down.

  • I'm thinking of marketing a line hand fans that people can use while they watch my hawt, hawt videos. I'll let you know if I do. In fact, I'll even comp you on one for giving me the idea.

  • I love these videos Mick.

    Great charts as usual.

  • Thanks mate. Pt. II will include a personal, public pledge to you to complete an unfinished assignment ;-)

  • Cant wait for Pt. II.

  • Just on subscribers..I really feel for every 2000 you have there would only be a core of say 30 who actually stick with you video after video, if your lucky you may have 50 who keep by your side..the cold hard fact is most are silent witness to the beauty you broadcast.

  • I have to agree with the comments below ( you won't see them if your on the beta channel viewing this..this tubers graphs are beautiful.

Why is it so difficult to pull honors in the US, considering it's pulled 45 comments in very short time surely it's worthy of a honor..

  • Short answer: Population.

Longer answer: many more YouTubers and videos. In the U.S. I'm competing against a much larger membership base than, say, UK, Australia, NZ, Netherlands, etc.

  • Well here's a thought, become a Australian, you would do very well on our small island.

  • :D awesome those charts :D

For some reason I really like watching charts, as long as I don't need to make them myself :p subscribers are tricky people, they come and go

  • and sometimes.... they come back again. (and go again).

  • That was the best update video ever! I love the graph effects, what program did you use?

    You rock! :)

  • The charts are made in Keynote (Apple's presentation software. It's available in a bundle called iWork.)

  • i need me some charts

  • Declining view counts is something that lots of YouTubers are complaining about. The simplest explanation is that there is so much content being uploaded nowadays (twenty hours worth every minute) that viewers are just spread too thin.

  • I'm here to stay as well! I could listen to you talk for hours!

  • YAY Charts!

  • YAY "YAY" Comments.

  • I am still one of your subscribers! When I will unsubscribe to you, I will make an official anounce on youtube. :)) Good luck!

  • I wondered why you were dressed in a shirt and tie when I dropped Tom off :)

I subscribed after we met at the Portland gathering, and I'm here to stay!

  • You wondered, and you didn't ask?

  • At that point I was far too tired to care. It was more a passing notion in the back of my mind.

Then I was distracted by a piano and a Milsom.

    Thanks for letting us intrude:)

  • Funny, it was in the back of my mind to explain my late-night shirt-and-tieness to you. Then I was distracted by that glorious confluence of piano and Milsom.

  • Funny how that happens.

  • I happen to like what you do! :)

  • i wish another veda would roll around so i could see your face in my subscription box more.

  • Hmmm. August starts with an "a". So, as Bugs used to say "it's a possibility."

  • i enjoy your videos... and will never unsubscribe!

  • My last tip of the day..

Don't get distracted by the videos, study at how the video and channel is linked to the youtube network, in this video it's easy, the links are basically being used as content.

On youtube you can't hide your family ties, or your previous footsteps, there is usually a echo of your activity lurking in the darkest corner.

  • There are also the sub mules / partner mules, and lets leave them as they are basically breaking the networks down, like looking at a train wreck you can't help but look.

Seems to be a huge drive for tubers to get subs, I would concentrate on views and the subs will follow, when I say views I am talking network views.

I am sure you could build a channel with zero content and pure network driving it.

    Believe it or not..!

  • I could find literally 100's of great quality channels which have gone nowhere, lucky to pull 20 subs, basically the key to the tube is networking, and right now one of the highest pegs in this is the partner friends area, your on quite a few.

They are hot real estate especially the bigger tubers.

Problem is when people do the mass subscribe attached to partner channels often they pick up baggage which may be dumped later on, remember many sub without ever looking under the hood.

  • I love the quarterly reports!

god, thats a sentence i never thought i'd use.

  • Me neither. But I thank you for using it.

  • Mickeleh loves me :)

My opinion: Some people sub without actually watching a video, and then when you upload, they do and are realize they don't like them.

It took you that long to reach one thousand, that make me feel a bit better at having not quite 200 at this stage :)

Uploaded 5 hours ago, no one can call you a lie-a-bed can they.

Who was that cutie during the intermission? I seem to recall having played with his hair at some point in time...

  • The video was mostly done by that time. I worked on it over several days and had pre-made all the charts. Just shot a couple more comments after the gathering and did the upload.

  • hooray, new mickeleh video. I sometimes have the same problems with the recommendations. But alas, Those who DO wanna watch. They're the best.

  • YouTube makes it very easy to see when someone adds a subscription. They don't provide any tools for finding out when someone unsubscribes. (And with good reason... Imagine the messages you'd get from people who knew you had dropped their channel.)

  • The attrition rate is higher than you describe. Subscribers who shut down their accounts or have them suspended still show up as being subscribed. It ought to be relatively simple for YouTube to unsubscribe these people as their channels are removed.

On another front, do you think the ratio of subscribers to views tells us anything useful? If so, what?

  • I have some charts prepared on that for Part II. But I have more questions than answers. When I put them up, maybe we can get a discussion going.

  • It's a Milsom!

I hope you appreciate how lucky you really are, Mr. Markman. The actual Tom Milsom in your living area!! :D

    Great video!

  • Extremely cool. Possibly my favourite video series on YouTube.

  • Possibly my favorite cameo. And comment.

  • i subscribed about an hour before this video was posted ...teehee. o:

  • Happy to supply a rapid reward. (or punishment.)

  • Tom Milsom cameo! Woo! And Mike, I won't be unsubbing any time soon.

  • Love the charts

    really like your videos

  • I like yours too. I wonder why I'm not subscribed? Remedied. (And I love The Clash).

  • these videos are so much fun.

also, i'm more than a little jealous that you had a tom in your house. curse my leaving for south korea before he went to the states!

  • 3:09... who could resist those puppy dog eyes? haha :) <3

  • Thanks. You should see the out takes.

  • Charts make me happy.

I've been in and out of Buck's recommended channels over the last two months (currently IN, w00!) and I've noticed that I drop about 100 subs every time I upload a vlog. Moral of the story: Alan, stop making videos. ...what a way to put those new subs to use. =)

  • I hope you are slow to absorb that lesson.

  • I Will Never Un-Subscribe! I love your videos! Keep up the good work Mickeleh!

  • Here's a serious note, heaps of my subscribers have noted a huge drop in views, partner / mom partner seems to be a global thing not season related, so I am starting to really wonder if the time required to soak up the tube is just not there as it's so large now..

You can look at a starry night forever, but your eyes will always drift towards the brighter stars, and FRED seems to be the moon..!

  • Might be as much time... but it's now spread over many more channels and videos. A month ago, YouTube disclosed that twenty hours of new videos are uploaded every minute. Let that sink in. Then read it again. Even if people are spending MORE time on YouTube, nobody can keep up.

  • RGDS (and his weeDoggie) are thrilled to bits to be able to see both Mickeleh and Hexachordal appear in the same video presentation.

RGDS will also comment on the fact that RGDS has had considerable experience where a thing may be '...more than the sum of its parts'.

  • How's Doggie doin' these days? Hope all is well.

  • Second quarterly? Goodness this year is flying by!

I've noticed a serious drop in views lately. Don't know why, maybe it's just the summer time and people have better things to do!

  • I think audience dilution is a huge factor. In U.S. TV, there were once three major networks... The ratings were very high. Now viewers are spread across hundreds of cable channels. Parallel effect happening on YouTube. More channels, more vids. Who can watch everything? I mentioned this in another comment: YouTube gets twenty hours of new videos every minute.

  • Oh I'm sure that's happening, Jeff from studentdotcom was telling me they used to get hundreds of thousands of views when they only had a couple thousand subs, now he has 15, 000 and gets way less views because they don't make all the lists... But I don't think that can be blamed for my situation - it's only been the last couple of videos, before that they were in general increasing in views over time.

  • Oh man! A Tom! In Mickeleh lighting!

Love the chats and stats and congrats and hooray!

  • chats = charts, it's early :|

    chats are cool too though.

  • So, let's chat. Some weather, eh? So, what did you think of the Sotomayor hearings?

  • I am first!

Everyone before me is a fake.

  • Every reply before this one is also fake. This is my first reply.

  • Aw, the charts are amazing. Awesomeness <3

  • I think you're a lovely guy, a LOVELY guy. None of your videos have caused me even the slightest offence, many videos make me laugh, I always like to see musical videos (the uke has so much more personality than a guitar) and you're humble. Not many popular youtubers manage to be entertaining AND humble.

    Thanks for the videos Mickelh.

  • Praise like that will make it hard to stay humble. But, please, don't stop. Thanks much.

  • and another 5 for luck

  • opps..5 stars

  • Interlude or interruption? The world may never know.

  • Go on then, rhyme intrude and rude with interruption, smartass. :P

  • Sir..I am on your case..and I notice your on many partner lists..

Thats the powehouse on the tube apart from other GoodSnacks before bedtime..!

  • I DO know what this means of course. Thanks for making the mundane things fun. I'm glad for your growth. Keep on keeping on Mickeleh!!!!

  • Yes, very good news! Quarterly susbcribers chartsa re amazing!
