Actually it looks very much like it´s the fault of the guy with the blue jacket on the shore, that helps to hold the boat: he actually pushes and lifts the boat. The boat begins exactly to shift after he begins to stand up. It´s like he did it on purpose... and I can not think that a problem of oars not locked could lead to something like that.
best idea for entering water is for the water side to get in first (generall stroke) and bow side to hold down the riggers whilst stroke lock their oars in...
wow that takes skill. Our varsity boat actually tried to flip during a hot practice day, but with out everyone helping, we couldn't get it...
our crew team got in differently, we got in with all ports, then all starboards. I personally think it's stupid and doesn't make a difference, but that's what our coach said to do.
The bowside (starboard) oars are not locked in their gates. You can see them pop up as the boat tips and they are clearly floating free once the shell is over. A case for strokeside to hold riggers while bowside close their gates....?
lol it doesn't really matter if you hold your oars when you get in the boat.. i'm on a four boat bow loader and it never tips even when i don't hold the oar as i get in
i've watche this about 20 times and cant see how the hell the did it. all the oars are locked and none of them let go. only thing is the guy in the blue jacket, i honestly think he tipped them
I've never gotten in an 8 another way and we havent flipped in my 3 years of rowing. Thats the only way to get in unless you do a standing shove. Most you are idiots and probably havent rowed before and youre shooting off your mouth. If the STARBOARD, aka, the people who row with thier oars on their left dont snug their oarlocks then the oars pop out and they do in fact flip. I have done this once in a double cause the same reason ( I was port). Dont talk 'less you know what you're talkin about
Did anyone notice that they forgot to secure the oars in the oarlocks? Getting in at the same time never results in an 8+ flipping, it is the right way and the only way to load an 8+.
You are not meant to get in all at once. In their cas bow side should have got in first, hold the boat level and then wait for stroke side to get in and then finally the cox. Idiots.
Yes, you're right. The additional static weight of the bow side in the boat will make it much less likely to flip. I've seen this a few times on the Cam, also when people get out of the boat.
Why did you all try and get in at once?!?! Bloody germans! Always have to do things more efficiently than everyone else!!! Well look at you know ,you're all wet! HAHA!!

they want to close there oars but the coach did't hold the boat.. it was an mistake from the coach, not the rowers
rinsepins 4 years ago
it was a mistake from the bow man. He shuffled in his seat and let go of his oar. The others obviously didn't help, though!

No it was a mistake from the cox. i was there to.

it was the port blades that wernt in...just to let u know :]
Roan2440 4 years ago
The port blades are on the oarsman's RIGHT because he faces the stern of the boat. Those were the starboard blades that weren't locked in.
