It became a border state and Abe did free the slaves but not intentionally in the south it was to reinforce slaves to be freed in already freed or union controlled areas so cant really use that against KY. The only reason he used to Emancipation Proclamation is because he didn't want the Europeans helping the South. And even then you have to take into account the fact that it only freed slaves in non-empire controlled territory. Lincoln's crimes against the Constitution are not unknown.

@dbww The british were leaning towards stopping the blockade the North had made, all they really needed was a push, Gettysburg would have given that push, however, they lost, so there was no European help to the South. If Stonewall Jackson had survived he would have taken Cemetary hill and the South would have won that battle. And then when stuart died and Longstreet had been shot. It was pretty much the end for the south.

The only reason he used to Emancipation Proclamation is because he didn't want the Europeans helping the South. And even then you have to take into account the fact that it only freed slaves in non-empire controlled territory. Lincoln's crimes against the Constitution are not unknown.

Was the German resistance movement in WW2 "evil" for breaking Hitler's laws? The law, just like the Constitution, is imperfect, and if taken to the letter can be unreasonable. That's why laws are made to control the distribution of weapons and such.

The public school system only teaches that the civil war started because the south had slaves and the confederates were the bad guys. It is much more complicated and complex than that. Slavery was not the reason for the war but the abolition of slavery was a consequence of it

But honestly if you think the Civil War started because a few states wouldn't give up their slaves you would be sadly mistaken. There was an entire economic reason apart from slavery why the war began. The confederate states seceeding from the union was the final trigger for the war. Let's not forget that the union states were highly industrialized so they did not need personal slaves when they had everyone working

They fought for selfish reasons. You know if we had the food, supplies, and men. We would have totally beat the North. The southern states didn't want Abraham as their president, and they warned the north that if they elected him they'd split off from the United States, and begin their own country. This is what they did. Of course, that's not what the United States is all about; hence the name. United. Plus, the slavery in the north being abolished put profiting perfectly in the south didn't sit well morally with most.

Care to show where you read that Britian gave diplomatic recognition to the Confederacy? Or where the British government gave them aid? @dbww The british were leaning towards stopping the blockade the North had made, all they really needed was a push, Gettysburg would have given that push, however, they lost, so there was no European help to the South. If Stonewall Jackson had survived he would have taken Cemetary hill and the South would have won that battle. And then when stuart died and Longstreet had been shot. It was pretty much the end for the south.
