The Founding Fathers would be considered "terrorists" by today's standards. Atheism is a very empowering belief. Knowing that there isn't some spoiled eight-year-old in the sky with a magnifying glass over our anthill is a relief. The existence of an afterlife does not necessarily prove the existence of a god.
