  • You can't compare other jobs to writing. Writing takes immense amounts of time and skill, that is, practice over time. Everyone wants to watch entertainment, no one wants to pay for it. This is a poor trend that needs to stop. If you appreciate art, know that it costs money to make and to own. True, it's not the same as cleaning a toilet, but do you want to watch a guy cleaning a toilet all day?

  • Why are production entities unwilling to pay writers a percentage of Internet revenue? If content is given away for free, they don't have to pay the writers; only when they make money are payments required. So where's the problem? And TV is undergoing a renaissance specifically because of great, inspired writing. Time to pay the piper and give writers the residuals they deserve.

  • Anytime the artist behind a work recieves more money I'm for it. To negate the role of hollywood writers is dangerous ground for the industry and the country. Give them a couple pennies they helped build the power of this country.

  • I agree with the strike, but this? I'm certain those fighting in Iraq, out of work in Detroit, homeless in New Orleans will understand the plight of the poor writer. We're in a business that thousands would die to be in, we've been lucky to make a living albeit not a steady one. That's why many of us have other jobs. Dropping credits? What're we, actors? I don't disagree with the strike, just the way this piece goes about delivering the message. Sorry Mr. Director, lame and heavy handed.

  • Lupineproductions:

What do soldiers, unemployed factory workers, and homeless have to do with writing? Thousands would NOT die to work in Hollywood, given that most jobs pay almost nothing. That is a MYTH you tell yourself to feel important.

  • Fascinating to hear from people we consider "successful in their field" who live job to job with no assurance there's a next one. These folks are the ones who CREATE what we watch on the screen -- who give birth to the entertainment we need. And it continues to entertain us for years and years -- they should be rewarded each time it does.

  • I am sure the writers have good points to be made in regards to this strike, but the direction here does not provide that. What it does provide is emotionally driven content that few people can sympathize with. Technically this is well done, but it is a perfect example of why the average doesn't care about this strike.

  • Completely agree - they come off as whiners and the music makes you want to kill yourself.

  • codell23: This video is the reality of the striking writers. I know many "average people" who support the strike. Tell me, what other job takes up as much time as writing and pays almost nothing? When you watch TV you see ads and (hopefully) buy those products while being entertained for free. Would you watch TV if it were all ads? Do you think content doesn't matter?

  • oh please, I'm not even going to argue that.
